Chapter 60 - Chapter 9

The curator was busy finding the next treasure. I requested going back to find more Amagi-Dari. The curator told me that it is best if we postpone the trip but he will find a perfect window so he can monetize on the steel. He asked me how I can identify the ships. I explained that I will travel onwards towards the oldest sector in the junkyard. There is a records department in Hae that identified what ship was made with what materials. The information is extremely detailed. So getting the ship should be easy. The junkyard is the only place we would find the super metal. The others happily concurred. We had to wait a day or two before we went to collect it. Mako packed me some grilled Aves and a few slices of bread so I won't get hungry. It was an inside joke but some of them have lost family members so they understood the beauty of nostalgia as well. The captain was told at the last minute about a secret trip somewhere. He quickly stepped aside to make a call to a secret military official. I found out and showed it to the curator. He waited till the call was over and stunned the creep. The place was stripped clean under an hour and he was given an injection to make him forget. We had a new captain a Terran. Someone from a drifter colony. He looked like me but his eyes were almond shaped and blue. His hair was blonde and he was lean. His name was Bo.

We left for the twilight zone after we had calibrated the ship to identify the metal. We arrived at the western quadrant. I flew in midnight and we detected the metal and hour later. We had to use precision tools to cut it off section by section. The ship was filled to capacity and then we flew to the new location we called home it was in the eastern section of the galaxy. There some vacant planets that no one would think twice to look. We named the planet Crypto. The auction went nuts as the metal was sold in the trillions. I took Midnight to Hae and got shares on the metal. I made sure to open a trust and use it to open new account. Any dividends from the shares goes here. I used my old accounts to buy some new clothes. Not the latest fashion obviously but the second hand clothing store. Then I came back to Crypto. Everyone was too busy to notice. I walked in and raised my index and middle finger and separated them by an inch. Mako asked me what I meant by that. I explained that it was the intergalactic peace sign. On the one side it means I am not here to cause trouble. He asked what the other side meant. I explained, "If you arouse my anger I will turn you inside out" he was so happy that he made the hand gesture his own. The others knew better than to question it.

The curator explained that he knows I am Nox but he won't hand me over because I had rescued him and his family once and he knows I will protect the crew no matter what. I stared at him for a second. I remember rescuing Paleons when I was with Kabbohera. I was sent to free slaves. Seven and Tenebrae were too busy to join me. I remember using my healing ability to heal a young boy after he was hit in the abdomen. He said his name once. I asked casually, "Torta" he grinned, "You gave me a new identity so my family can live freely. Don't worry. You are safe here. I don't care about the bounty. No one here will hand you over." I thanked him as I walked back to my dear Midnight. I sat down to double check the ship for any flaws and defects I went back to mess hall to grab a bite. The news was saying the military were sending spy bots or probers all over the galaxy to map everywhere and to put a stop to certain businesses. They denied it outright. The only thing that could dupe it was a Refractile. It was a counterintelligence device that makes the surrounding look like it uninhabitable. The device hacks the prober and sends false signals before it fries the device. It is an arrestable offense to own one. To use it without permission is to spend at least a hundred years in jail.

I have used one during the days of Kabbohera while I was opposing her. I have taken it apart to understand how it works. So I went to the junkyard to get the parts to make my own version. It took me a week to get the parts. And another few days to build it. Then I had to field test it before it was sent into orbit as part of security. Torta released a few rusted parts into outer space as an added bonus. The prober arrived and it couldn't scan the area because it collided with a floating debris and exploded. We were extremely careful as we entered and exited the planet. We keep the bare minimum on while switch off the rest. The Delta class cruiser was seen in a nearby system they were making a space ring that would serve as either a fueling station and a secret information hub. The construction took two years to build. The space lane was blocked and anyone who trespassed was either diverted or arrested. I sent a small prove to spy on the space station. The architecture screams prison or facility for dubious science experiments. After construction was completed we found out it was a prison. We had to be extra careful with our flight path.

I was ordered to take a vacation so I took Midnight to Terta Terrain. I gave the curatorna means to contact me before I left so he can give me the new code so the security won't shoot me down. The place was a paradise compared to my first visit. Dense forests divided by crystal clear water gushing through the forest. The river sliced the forest in two as though it was cut by a blade. Exotic Aves flew over the trees. I am guessing they were on the endangered species list. But not anymore. I had to get permission to land. I explained that I am traveling to learn about conservation. The operator who answered the comms was surprised that I speak Otaru. The official language of the Tetra Terrain. I didn't mention that I had spent some time as a worker during the beginning of the conservation project. I replied calmly, "I found the language in the linguistics department. I was asked to learn several languages as part of my education" he confirmed my story before he lowered the shield to let me in. As I opened the ramp to get down I smelled the fresh air. It was floral. I was awed since the last time I was here the air felt hot and almost a punishment. I used wrap my face with a cloth because I might get blasted with sand. After I took moment to admire the sanctuary I was redirected towards the rainforest where they built treehouses. I was curious about the cave farm but I didn't mention it in case it was classified. Turns out it was an emergency relief zone. When there are flash floods and other natural disasters they go there seeking shelter. The plants grown there are all edible. From food to medicine.

They use all natural ingredients. Even medicine is plant and animal based. The locals have never been sick. They live a hundred years without aches and pains. I was diverted to the conservation manager. He was kind enough to point out a few plants and their purpose. One was Manjiferin. It is used to treat the flu, sores and so on. The Tetanus when people get stabbed with nails and so on. Frankincense as a cure for inflammation and Saffron as a mood stabilizer. Kefir grains were essential with every meal. They enjoyed eating Amaranth. It was their currency. A bag of it would get you a house, a spouse and much more. They don't believe in Valutas. They use exotic grains to make breads. People wore indigo thin tunics and maroon pants. They were made from plant fibers and dyed using plants material. Technology was kept to a minimum. If the technology is something that damages the planet it was destroyed. Since mine was running on clean energy it was sent to the garage. I was given the guest quarters. I asked to stay as a worker and earn a living. I wish to learn how to care for nature. They were suspicious but didn't question me much. I was told to report to the Vizir in the morning and I will transported to the Olivian district.
