Chapter 499 - Chapter 498: Chronos Titan

Under Aglaea's explanation, she presented the group with the only viable path forward.

The sole way out was to locate the Chronos Titan Oronyx, borrow the Titan's power to reshape the flow of time, and then search within it for the secret concerning Nikador.

Afterward, Caelus, Dan Heng, Phainon, and Castorice formed a new squad and set out for the Abyss of Fate.

With Teacher Tribbie's assistance, the four arrived in the Abyss.

Along the way, Tribbie casually mentioned Trianne's condition—apparently overexerting her abilities had left her quite exhausted.

Meanwhile, Castorice—thanks to her deep familiarity with Titan speech—served as the group's translator.

The journey contained no convoluted puzzles—only the repeated use of Titan power to traverse time, constantly switching back and forth between the present and the past. The visuals were stunning and clearly expensive, showcasing an unrestrained, imaginative flair that left the audience in awe.

[Not gonna lie, I've played this exact puzzle mechanic in another game before.]

[Name the game—I wanna try it.]

[Dishonored 2.]

[This back-and-forth between past and present is honestly pretty cool.]

— —

Not long after.

The group finally arrived before a massive gate.

Not far away lay the separated Express carriage, resting peacefully.

"That's…" Castorice looked at the unfamiliar object with some confusion.

Dan Heng explained, "This is where we crashed. Our carriage came under attack. Caelus and I nearly lost our lives."

Phainon nodded. "Looking back now, that must have been Nikador's doing too."

[Oh you little—you're the one who shot down Trailblazer?]

[No wonder the first boss is the Strife Titan. You've already earned a death sentence!]

"Up close, it's even more impressive." Dan Heng looked up at the gate. "That gate truly is magnificent."

"It symbolizes the divine authority of Janus, Gate Titan of the three Fate Titans. According to legend, Janus, eldest of the three Fate Titans, created Amphoreus's 'space.'

Janus fell long ago. The one who returned the Coreflame and inherited its divine office—the demigod—is none other than Lady Tribbie."

Hearing Castorice's explanation, Caelus was puzzled. That harmless-looking Tribbie actually defeated this Titan?

"Didn't expect that. So she's actually really strong."

Phainon: "Not every Titan needs to be defeated through brute force. But you're right—there's no need to measure Teacher Tribbie's strength by combat power alone. She is one of Amphoreus's most worthy heroes to be celebrated.

Let's go. With Teacher Tribbie's sigil, we should be able to enter the Hall of the Triune Fates without issue."

The group stopped chatting. Phainon took the lead, placing the sigil Tribbie had given them before the gate.

With a crackling sound.

The gate slowly opened.

At that moment.

The Titan's whisper entered everyone's ears. The next instant, all eyes turned toward Castorice in unison.

Castorice gave a slight nod. "Sorry… I don't want to translate those words."

[Hahaha, turn on your mic!]

[Did the Titan just start cursing?]

[Sending angry telegrams in Titan language.]

[I bet Boothill could translate it perfectly.]

"Looks like getting Oronyx's help won't be easy." Phainon shook his head, but quickly rallied. "Let's keep moving!"

— —

Inside the grand hall, as expected, Oronyx still refused to offer assistance.

A massive set of scales stood in the center of the hall.

"'Scale of Justice'—this is the first time I've seen it in full." Phainon's eyes widened in awe.

Dan Heng: "Is this another Titan's symbol?"

Seeing Caelus and Dan Heng's confusion, Castorice quickly explained, "Talanton, second of the three Fate Titans. Legend says it created the 'laws' that govern the world's operation. Its Coreflame has already been returned, but the Chrysos Heir who inherited its divine office… is now missing."

"At least the laws that keep the world running remain stable. Wherever that demigod may be, they fulfilled their duty." Phainon quickly refocused. "There's no visible exit anywhere. How do we proceed?"

The Titan's whisper echoed through the entire hall.

"'Leave… leave.'

'Do not touch… sister's things. Leave...'"

Dan Heng was slightly surprised by the word "sister."

"Some describe the three Fate Titans as siblings. She may be referring to Talanton, Law Titan's scales."

"No way forward on either side, and the exit is hidden. Chronos Titan Oronyx really doesn't welcome us."

The following plot unfolded as follows.

According to the Chronos Titan, only by balancing the scales could they find the way out.

After considerable effort, the group finally completed the task.

Unfortunately, Oronyx played coy again and offered a new riddle: "'Find something heavier than the fate of the world…'"

The camera shifted. The group now stood outside one of the scale pans.

All along the way, Caelus had been pondering the meaning of "something heavier." In the end, he placed his beloved baseball bat and flame lance onto the scale.

"Not even a tremor…" Phainon rubbed his chin. "I've hefted Trailblazer's flame lance before—it's quite heavy. Looks like this approach won't work…"

"Then we'll just have to brute-force it!" Caelus swung his bat vigorously against the scale pan…

…but the pan didn't budge. His arm went numb from the massive recoil.

"Hiss…"

Phainon shook his head. "Looks like brute force isn't an option for this trial."

At this point, there seemed to be only one way left.

That was what Caelus was thinking. In one swift motion, he leaped onto the scale pan.

"…"

Dan Heng's mouth twitched. "Have you ever considered gaining weight?"

Castorice couldn't help letting out a soft chuckle.

Phainon said helplessly, "Come down… looks like that won't work either."

[Hahahahahahaha. Peak abstraction!]

[Castorice actually laughed! I think that's the first time!]

[Even Dan Heng isn't being serious—telling us we're too skinny.]

[Actually Castorice laughed once before—during the Earth Beast segment.]

[Wasn't that just awkward polite laughter?]

— —

Caelus jumped down and shrugged. "I'm out of ideas…"

Just then.

The voice of the Chronos Titan rang out once more.

Castorice listened carefully, then translated, "Chronos Titan Oronyx seems somewhat annoyed… because we're treating its trial like a game."

Dan Heng's pupils shifted as he carefully parsed the meaning. "In other words, we need to find something that is literally heavier than 'the fate of Amphoreus'? Sounds like an unsolvable riddle.

For the people of Amphoreus, does anything truly exist that is more important than this land? They don't even have the option of fleeing to the outer realms."

"Something heavier than 'the fate of the world'…" For some reason the camera lingered on Phainon. His expression was pained, as though something had occurred to him.

Castorice quickly interrupted. "No, Your Excellency Phainon. There must be another way… a more thorough way. Even if time is short…"

[Is this foreshadowing?]

[Who knows. Ultimately miHoYo holds the final say—if they say it's foreshadowing, it is; if not, it isn't.]

[I bet it's foreshadowing. Probably gets used when they reveal Phainon's backstory.]

[After all, he's got the face of someone carrying a lot of history—just don't know if it's heavy enough to weigh five thousand years.]
