Chapter 290 - Chapter 290: The Odyssey

Before long, Roy landed on the speedboat.

The two mercenaries who were still fumbling with the speedboat were scared stiff when they saw Roy descend from the sky, and they fainted right there.

"Captain Finnegan, I'll leave the rest to you. Let's get out of here quickly!"

"Joey, go check the engine. Hope these idiots didn't mess up the boat!"

Under Finnegan's control, the speedboat's speed suddenly increased, and before long, the Santiago and the sea monster in the distance were out of sight.

Standing on the deck, everyone felt a bit dazed.

"I can't believe we actually survived! It was like a nightmare!"

"Yeah! Everyone on the Santiago is probably dead."

Charles, Serena, Trillian, and Katherine all felt a little sad.

Especially Charles, he would likely face things even more complicated than the sea monster when he returned. Maybe jumping into the sea right now would be easier for him.

However, seeing Serena's eyes, Charles ultimately couldn't bring himself to abandon his daughter and leave.

Heather and Penny were different. They had already experienced too many supernatural events. For them, this was just another thrilling adventure.

"Finnegan, we might be running low on fuel!"

After checking the speedboat's engine, Joey delivered some bad news.

But Finnegan remained very calm. Having been a smuggler for so many years, how could he not be prepared?

"I buried some diesel on a small island. The remaining fuel should be enough to get us there."

This was Finnegan's backup plan. After all, the mercenaries Katherine brought didn't look like easy people to deal with, and he and Joey probably wouldn't have made it to shore without some preparation.

As it turned out, Finnegan's judgment was correct; they almost died during the previous conflict.

After reaching a safe environment, the effects of adrenaline gradually wore off, and everyone started to feel tired.

Even Captain Finnegan was exhausted. They had been driving all night, plus the intense activity in the morning. Their bodies couldn't take it anymore, and they kept yawning.

Drowsy driving is dangerous, even at sea.

So Roy told Finnegan to rest as well and offered to watch the helm himself.

"Uh, Mr. Black, are you sure you're okay?"

Finnegan was very respectful of his savior, but steering a boat was a skill, not something everyone could just pick up.

"I've studied a bit. It shouldn't be a big problem."

Expert-level water sports skills included driving a speedboat. Roy definitely couldn't handle a large cruise ship, but the boat Finnegan was driving was right on the borderline.

Finnegan tested Roy and found that he answered every question fluently, which finally put his mind at ease.

"Mr. Black, I've already set the course. The speedboat will automatically head towards the destination. You just need to keep an eye on these instruments. If anything happens, wake me up quickly."

"I will."

Finnegan left, yawning. Only Heather and Penny remained in the cockpit.

"Aren't you two going to rest?"

"We rested last night and don't want to sleep again right now, so we wanted to stay here and keep you company."

Roy noticed the dampness in Penny's eyes and immediately understood what they meant.

After a thrilling adventure, some release was naturally needed.

However, Roy deliberately put on a helpless look as he looked at Heather and Penny, even shrugging his shoulders.

"But I have to watch the instruments right now."

Heather and Penny exchanged glances.

They had been together for over half a year and knew each other very well, so they couldn't possibly misunderstand Roy's intentions.

And so, Heather and Penny tied up their beautiful long hair and spoke to Roy in seductive tones.

"Well then, Captain Black, you keep steering the ship, and we'll take care of everything else!"

In ancient Greek mythology, there was a legendary creature called a Siren. They had the heads of beautiful women but the bodies of birds.

Sirens were also called Acheloides, meaning "children of Achelous." They liked to gather in groups on rocks, using their enchanting songs to lure passing ships onto the reefs, and then feast on the sailors who fell into the water. They were considered a rather evil type of monster.

In Homer's epic The Odyssey, it's recorded that the protagonist, Odysseus, encountered the Sirens on his journey home.

Many people confuse Sirens with mermaids, but there's a big difference between the two. Although mermaids also like to sing, their purpose isn't to lure sailors, and they don't harm humans.

In fact, when humans fall into the water, mermaids will even support them to the surface.

Doesn't that sound a lot like dolphins? In fact, the legend of mermaids is likely a product of combining dolphins and dugongs.

But the main reason for talking about this is that Roy is currently facing the temptation of two evil Sirens. The evil Sirens are enjoying 80-ring gauge natural cigars.

That's a diameter greater than 4cm and a length of 36cm.

Of course, this isn't the largest cigar in the world.

The largest cigar in the world was a custom-made one from a cigar shop, with a length of 6 meters, a diameter of nearly 1 meter, and weighing over 700 kilograms. Only Titan giants could probably enjoy such a colossal cigar.

Fortunately, while Roy's was also intimidating, it was at least within the humanly acceptable range, so the two evil Sirens could just about bear it.

This was a huge test for Roy. He held the locked helm, not tying himself to the mast like Odysseus in Homer's epic, but resisting the Sirens' temptation with willpower.

It was truly difficult. The two beautiful evil Sirens looked at him with adoring eyes, their emotional value completely maxed out.

Roy had to constantly look ahead to resist this terrible temptation.

During this process, Roy didn't forget to take out his digital camera and record the exciting moments of the two.

While filming, Roy suddenly remembered he still had four treasure chests unopened. Maybe he should open them now?

Roy lowered his head and glanced at Heather and Penny, who were diligently working. It seemed like now was a good time to open them.

And so, Roy took his hands off the helm, placed them on Heather's and Penny's heads respectively, and entered the system to open the treasure chests.

[Opening Dalia O'Connor's Conquest Chest...]

[Obtained 1 Strength attribute point!]

[Obtained 1 Willpower attribute point!]

As expected, Dalia's Conquest Chest only yielded two attribute points.

There was nothing he could do. Jennifer Connelly, who played Dalia, had always been an artistic type and had hardly made any commercial films, so there weren't many alternate universe counterparts for Roy to exploit.

Similarly, Roy didn't have much expectation for Serena's chest because he remembered that Blake Lively was mainly famous for The Beach and Gossip Girl. After that, she became a female internet celebrity.

[Opening Serena Van Der Woodsen's Conquest Chest...]

[Obtained 1 Agility attribute point!]

[Obtained 1 Memory attribute point!]

[Obtained Special Ability: Super Healing!]

Roy: ???

How could something so outrageous happen?

Roy quickly opened the system description to see what was going on.

[Super Healing: A special ability from a female Deadpool in a certain universe. An extraordinary healing ability where any injury can be quickly restored, and even severed limbs can grow back.]

(Lady Deadpool)

Hiss! So it's the ability of the female version of Deadpool!

Roy remembered that in Deadpool 3, Blake Lively did indeed have a cameo as Lady Deadpool. There were even rumors at the time that Taylor Swift played Lady Deadpool.

He didn't expect that even a cameo role would yield an ability!

The Super Healing ability is quite useful. Combined with Blood Frenzy, it can make Roy a perpetual motion machine, allowing him to maintain his Buff state throughout a fight.

It's a shame he didn't draw Deadpool's conceptual-level immortality ability, otherwise Roy would be truly invincible. He wouldn't even be afraid if the ex-husband (Thanos) himself showed up.

However, Deadpool's immortality comes from a curse by the green-haired Thanos. Without Thanos and that curse, it naturally wouldn't exist.

Alright, the Super Healing ability is already very powerful. Let's see the next treasure chest.

[Opening Roland Golden's Fate Chest...]

[Obtained 1 Constitution attribute point!]

[Obtained 1 Spirit attribute point!]

Roy's luck wasn't so good this time. Clearly, Roland Golden didn't have any alternate universe counterparts to exploit either, so it was the guaranteed two attribute points.

Now there was only one treasure chest left.

[Opening Trillian's Conquest Chest...]

[Obtained 2 Agility attribute points!]

[Obtained 1 Willpower attribute point!]

[Obtained Special Item: Phoenix Force!]

Roy: ???

This was the second time Roy had shown this expression, causing Heather and Penny to look at him strangely.

[Phoenix Force: A powerful force from the Marvel universe. The beginning of all things, chaotic and immortal, eternally brilliant! It is the embodiment of life and mind, the symbol of life and emotion! This force can be both destruction and rebirth!]

Is today all about Marvel?

First, Super Healing from Lady Deadpool, and now Jean Grey's Phoenix Force!

This is truly... amazing!

The Phoenix Force is one of the top-tier powers in the Marvel universe. You could say it's on the same level as the Infinity Gauntlet with all the Infinity Stones collected.

Of course, that's the setting in the Marvel universe. In this world, without the support of that worldview, it definitely wouldn't reach that height, but it's still the most powerful ability Roy has drawn so far.

If he could control the Phoenix Force, that is.

Roy suddenly remembered that Famke Janssen, the actress who played Trillian, also played a version of Jean Grey, the Phoenix.

It was just that Roy had seen the movie Deep Rising so early, when he was a child watching it on TV in his previous life, and Jean Grey's appearance was vastly different from Trillian's, which is why he hadn't made the connection.

Roy couldn't wait to take the Phoenix Force out of his inventory. It looked like a red stone, with the faint image of a phoenix flashing through it.

How was he supposed to use this? Should he just swallow it?

Roy didn't hesitate for long and swallowed the Phoenix Force.

Heather and Penny looked at Roy's action with surprise.

"Roy, what are you doing?"

"Don't mind me, keep going!"

Roy felt as if he had swallowed a fireball; the intense heat spread from his stomach throughout his entire body.

Subsequently, Roy felt like something had been added to his body, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was.

After a while, Roy's body temperature gradually returned to normal, and a new ability appeared on his status panel: Phoenix Force.

However, clicking on this ability showed that the Phoenix's power was still dormant.

Sure enough, it wasn't that simple to obtain the world-destroying Phoenix Force.

In X-Men, the Phoenix Force is mostly in the background, only being unleashed in certain major events.

It doesn't matter. The meat is already in the pot; it doesn't matter when he eats it.

After opening the treasure chests, Roy felt a wave of relief, but then he heard Heather start to plead below.

"Ugh, Roy, I can't hold on anymore!"

Sirens don't have hands, only wings, so they can't support themselves with their hands when squatting. Heather and Penny had to keep their hands behind their backs to imitate the Sirens.

It was fine for a little while, but after a long time, even the physique of a ghost wolf couldn't endure it.

What's more, Roy also liked to play tricks, often moving his body to make Heather and Penny expend more energy.

"Heather, you're already tired? Look, Penny is still trying hard. Don't give up, just hold on a little longer."

Penny, with her more complex life experience, was clearly stronger in terms of willpower. Roy used her as an example to try and motivate Heather.

Heather glanced at Penny beside her, who was focused on improving, and chose to launch a surprise attack on Roy's rear.

"Heather, you!"

Facing the (front and back pincer attack) from Heather and Penny who weren't playing by the rules, Roy felt it was necessary to properly punish them.

"Evil monsters, watch me, Odysseus, defeat you personally!"

Penny was very cooperative, looking at Roy with a provocative gaze.

"Odysseus, you have offended the Sea King. You will never return to your homeland!"

Those words sounded too ominous, which angered Roy and made him press Penny against the helm.

"How dare you be so arrogant!"

Roy used his classic Greek spear to pierce the evil Sirens, kicking off this great battle between good and evil.

As an epic hero, how could he not defeat a few mythological creatures!

In the sky, sunlight pierced through the thick clouds, seemingly fueling this epic battle.

The shaking of the speedboat as it sped across the sea brought a unique sense of rhythm, a feeling not found on stable land.

Even on the Santiago, there wasn't this special feeling. The Santiago was too heavy, and only storms could bring a slight rocking sensation.

Unless it was thrown by the sea monster, but that feeling was only terrifying. Roy didn't want to experience that again. This was much better.

And so, with the help of the waves, a thrilling epic battle ended at dusk.

Roy, playing Odysseus, ultimately defended the honor of an epic hero, defeating the two evil Siren sea monsters.

Guess which movie is next?
