By the time the sun dipped low, painting the campus in gold, they found themselves walking side by side—closer than usual, but comfortably so. The morning's words and glances lingered, heavy and sweet, settling between them like a silent agreement.
The classes were pretty much done. Just one hour before college is done for the day.
Aanya is sitting in her place beside Sagnik, who was taking a nap beside her, she took out her phone from her pocket to check whose class it was going to be.
"Noooooo, its his clas- I mean why are all his classes in the evening, when everyone are just hanging by the last rope of their will power?"
Sagnik moved in his sleep, he was a light-sleeper, he cant sleep when it is noisy, Aanya looked at him completely for the first time in days, she was mesmerized by his existence, she kept on shuttling her gaze from his head to his chin, and that is when a plan struck her genius mind.
"What's your problem?? Let me sleep... where the hell are we going?" Said Sagnik, he was frustrated because he was dragged deliberately out of the class.
"Trust me, will you?! All i know that it is going to be worth it" she spoke sheepishly.
"Moreover, if you miss it now, you will regret it for the rest of your college life.. and I am your well-wisher I don't want you to go through all that" She continued speaking but this time facing him, while her legs were taking her out of the campus.
Aanya shook Sagnik out of his slumber while they were walkin and asked him for the car keys, he dug his pockets and plopped the keys towards Aanya.
She caught the keys, and both of them got inside the car.. and then she drove off.
"Where are we going, by the way?"
Aanya exclaimed "You are finally awake?"
"Haha, you think that's funny?" He spoke up, taking up on the sarcasm Aanya just dropped.
"You don't think its funny?" She counter-retorted Sagnik's question, sheepishly with that smile not leaving her face, it felt as if she were advertising all of her 32 teeth, they didnt seem to disappear not even for a second.
"Hey, its my car. Tell me where we are going, I ought to know."
Aanya didnt say anything, she just had her focus 100% on the road, she just smiled to herself.
"You are smiling now.. Are you sure, you arent kidnapping me to kill me off and sell my organs?" He feigned fear, but it was quite evident that he intentionally was trying to make her smile more.
"Like hell.. why the hell would i do that?" She retorted back at him.
"Come on just tell me where we are going. I will shut my mouth then" he pleaded.
She thought for a while and then suddenly parked the car at the side of the highway, she took a deep breath, and turned herself to face him and spoke up, in a deep contemplation. "There was one time when you were in my place and I was in your place, and you just asked me, if I trusted you or not, and till this date, that trip was the best I have ever had. So, I just ask you to trust me this once. You won't regret it"
Sagnik was shocked to see that she remembers the trip they had together, what touches his heart even more is how she used his words against him just to prove a point.
"O-o-ok-ay" He responded while being flustered.
Aanya drove off the car into the highway again. "What!! You are blushing now? What for?"
"As if, why would I blush, I am a man. I should be making woman blush, not the other way around." Sagnik retorted, rather strongly, as though he was scared about being labeled as a weakling by her.
"Yeah? Okay, so, you want me to belive that you are a born-tomato?" She asked calmy
"Tomato?? Is that what you think i look like?" He asked her again, feigning offense
"Come on, who are you kidding just look at yourself, your face looks as if you have been kissed out of the bl-" she stopped midway realizing what she had said.
Sagnik was equally flustered or in this case, even more. He looked at her, and opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
"I m-m-ean, you look as i-i-if you have seen your girlfrien" she again stopped midsentence.
This time she didnt care correcting it.
Arrgghh, what the fuck am I going on about!! I better shut my mouth before he calls this trip off. She thought to herself and just continued driving without opening her mouth for the rest of the drive.
Something undone was touched in that moment, and both of them were aware of it, its just that no one wanted to be the oje who talks about it, and just like that once instance when their toes touched, they let this moment also pass out without talking about it.
