Chapter 1 - Past lives

and another dimension, the previous avatars, the past lives of the current avatar, Korra. We're being disconnected from her as the dark spirit had become a being equal to her in power.

With that newfound power, he separated the speed of light and order from her and disconnected all of her past lives, destroying her in the process.

Originally, she would be restored and give them back to the avatar, but that's not the only thing that happened when she was destroyed. She and six other avatar spirits were sent somewhere else.

Before they knew it, they were no longer in the spirit world. They found themselves in an entirely different place, staring down at the newborn carrying the avatar spirit. He had pale skin, brown eyes, and brown hair.

This is where our story begins.

Sixteen years later, the child had grown up and was given the name Alex Suzuki. He lived in New York City, constantly hearing voices in his head, thinking he was going crazy. He asked his mom for pills, which helped but didn't silence them.

(you can't ignore us forever) said Avatar Kyoshi

(you're not real you're just hallucinations that I made in my mind.) he said, because after everything they told him, anyone else in his position would think he's crazy. I mean, turtle ducks, giant lizards, polar bear dogs.

(well, it does sound far-fetched, but it is indeed true, and we will be here when you need us.) said Avatar Yangchen

I'd been hearing these voices since I was six. I've been on medication trying to get rid of them ever since. Taking my pills has had a significant impact on my life, as people think I'm crazy.

He technically has seven voices in his head, but one claims to be a non-human spirit of light and order.

The avatars in his head are Avatar Wan, Avatar Yangchen, Avatar Kuruk, Avatar Kyoshi, Avatar Roku, and Avatar Aang.

He walked down the road with his hoodie pulled up, not paying attention to his surroundings. Suddenly, he was grabbed from behind and dragged into an alleyway.

"So you're the psychopathic kid. Your parents wouldn't care if you're gone," said a masked man as he was being forced into a black van.

(we have to help him) said Roku

(well, the only way for us to do that is if you trust us. So, kid, do you trust us?) asked Wan

"Yes, I trust you. Just do it," he replied. The guys around him just assumed he was talking to himself, but suddenly, his eyes glowed with mysterious power. With newfound strength, he grabbed the person holding him and threw him against the alley wall.

He turned to Yellow One, sent out a wave of energy, crashing it into the wall. The other guy, with a knife, charged at him. Before he could do anything, an earth spike shot up from the ground, piercing the attacker in the chest.

Seeing his friend die, the other one raised his gun, aiming it at his forehead.

"Die, freak," he said, I used metal bending to stop the bullet as it turned and hit the attacker's elbow.

He let out a scream of pain as blood oozed from the wound.

"What are you?" he asked.

"Something not from this reality. Something you'll never understand. We are the avatar, and you are judged," he said, voice echoing, as he waved his hand, summoning fire. The man was engulfed by flames and screamed as he died.

Once finished, he turned and disintegrated another body. With the threat gone, the light vanished, and he regained control of his body. He was shocked and scared, watching everything that just happened, then looked at himself and asked:

"What am I?" he asked, beginning to believe what they told him.

"Just like we told him, we are the avatar—or, in this case, you are," said Wan.

"What does this mean? How do I have these powers?" he asked.

"Before that, shouldn't you help the ones in the van?" said Avatar Kuruk. I was about to ask what he was talking about when I heard banging from the van. I moved closer and opened the door. Inside, there were two girls, one with white, silver hair, green cat-like eyes, and silky skin. She wore a black leather jacket, leather boots, a T-shirt with a cat on it, and leather pants.

The other was a blonde girl with shoulder-length hair, a headband, a green jacket, a black skirt, black shirt, and black boots.

I snapped at them, and they flinched away. I held up my hands, saying I meant no harm, and I removed their bindings.

"My name is Alex Suzuki," I introduced myself as we stepped out of the car.

"I'm Gwen Stacy," said Gwen.

"My name is Felicia Hardy," said the silver-haired girl.

"We should go to the police and tell them what happened," I said, about to leave.

"Sure. Should we also tell them about you killing them with those awesome superpowers?" said Felicia, making me stop and turn back to them.

"You saw," I said.

"Yes, the windows were tinted, but we could still see outside, and we clearly saw you using some kind of powers," she replied.

"What do you want?" I asked.

(instead of abiding by what they want, you could just, you know, kill them,) said Kiyoshi.

(Kyoshi, even for you, that's a bit far—killing children?) said Wan.

(We're in a different world. The avatar isn't respected here. There's no one to protect him but himself, and who knows what will happen if they discover he has powers. This is the only logical choice,) said Kiyoshi.

(At least hear what they want first,) said Aang.

"I want you to give us your phone number so we can hang out sometime," Felicia said.

I blinked, feeling all my past lives do the same. "That's it," I said,

"Yeah, I mean, it's not every day you meet a guy with superpowers who just saved your life. It would be pretty bad of us to keep this a secret. If I told the world about you, I assume you're trying to lay low, right? Felicia, and sorry if she scared you a little—she's really intense," Gwen added.

"It's all right, I'm here," I said as we exchanged numbers. Soon after, we called the police. They came to the area, and we told them a lie about escaping from the goons, who had run away.

They called her parents, and eventually, my mom came. She was tall, with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing blue jeans and a black sweater.

"Are you okay?" she asked, holding me tight.

"Yeah, I'm okay, Mom," I replied. We started walking toward the car. I got in, trying to process everything that just happened. We reached my house—if you could call it that—smashed between two buildings, a normal two-story house with only my mom, my older sister, and me living there. My sister, Sam, just came back from college looking for a job in the city.

She hugged me when she saw me.

"I'm glad you're okay," she said.

Over the years, we'd gotten along well, especially after she learned I had "multiple personality disorder." In fact, that's why my father doesn't live here anymore—he didn't want a "malfunctioning child," as he put it.

"Thanks. I'm going to my room. I need to think," I said, walking past them up the stairs, to my room in the back. I opened the door and closed it behind me. My room was typical for a teenager—had a desk with a computer, a dresser, and a TV. I sat on my bed, staring at the ceiling, overwhelmed.

(I can't believe I just killed two people,) I said, distressed.

(well, technically, I killed them,) said Kiyoshi.

(You're not helping the situation, Kyoshi!), said Roku.

(really? Like how you didn't kill the Fire Lord, that didn't help the Air Nation,) said Kiyoshi.

"I want answers. Why do I have you in my head? Why do I have the ability to control the elements? And how are you able to control me?" I yelled, thankful my room was soundproof.
