"Unfortunately… yes," Princess Xenia replied, sorely tempted to kick the young man beside her down to the commentator's booth so he and Alex could fight each other.
"I almost feel sorry for you."

Sometimes, Princess Xenia wondered what she had done to deserve this kind of secondhand embarrassment over and over again.
Knowing that she couldn't do anything about it for now, she decided to follow the other students' lead and pretend she didn't know Alex and Chuck.
Deep inside, she knew that she was fooling no one, but she couldn't bear to let go of what little dignity she had left.
