The Weather Committee formed on a Tuesday morning because the sky had been acting up again.
For weeks, the Zone's weather had stayed mostly calm—sunny enough for crops, cool enough for sleep—but pockets of oddness kept popping up. One garden would get a sudden warm breeze while the next stayed still.
A path might fog over for no reason while the rest of the square stayed clear. People started talking about it on porches, then someone nailed up a Weather Wish Board near the main path.
Just a flat piece of wood with chalk. Write what you wanted, no big deal.
By afternoon, the board had a dozen notes. "More dramatic sunsets for walks with someone special," one said. "Gentle rain for afternoon naps," another added.
"Steady wind for drying laundry faster," a third suggested. Amrit read them all with his usual serious face and nodded like he was taking an order at a restaurant. He walked to the center of the square, cupped his hands, and spoke clearly toward the clouds.
