After dinner, Brandan entered the study as usual.
When he finished reading the documents inside and came downstairs to find Iris Harris, he discovered that the woman who usually stayed downstairs watching TV and eating dessert was not on the sofa today.
He paused at the top of the stairs, thought for a moment, then turned and headed towards the bedroom.
In the bedroom, which was warm with the heater on, Iris sat on the bed, her hair casually tied up with an elastic band, wearing glasses, and was fully engrossed in looking at the laptop screen. She didn't even notice when he opened the door and came in.
Brandan walked over slowly and quietly, glanced down at what she was looking at, and found it was the design draft he had revised for her this afternoon.
Iris stared at the draft, deeply focused, and her concentrated expression made him feel both gratified and a bit envious.
