[3rd POV]
Eating the dinner that was made out of a literal galaxy, Wanda had to admit that the meal was truly unlike anything she had ever had in her entire life. As she was eating a literal dead galaxy, and it tasted fantastic.
It was like every flavor she had ever had at once, but in a good way, not overwhelming way. Well, it was not overwhelming for her at least. Should a normal mortal have it, she was pretty confident that they would just instantly die.
Eating a galaxy would probably do that to you, should you not be...well, her. Her stomach could fit...well, probably entire universes if she really wanted it to.
"So, Wanda, why exactly do you run a bookstore of all things?" Death asked, as she bit into her own galaxy meal. She was truly curious about this, as why would someone of such power be willing to do something like running a simple bookstore?
Wanda looked up at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What?" Death asked, wondering why she was looking at her like that.
"Oh nothing. It's just that that is probably the most common question I am asked by those that know of my bookstore, and the power that I have held. I've heard it like a dozen times at this point" Wanda responded with a shake of her head, before continuing.
"As for why I run it, it's because it is what I enjoy. I may be capable of ending multiverses and unmaking and remaking reality to my will, but that is so...boring. I enjoy collecting new knowledge, reading new books, and meeting people from throughout creation" Wanda explained, as Death nodded slowly, beginning to understand what she was saying.
"So basically you are saying that you do it because it'd be boring as hells otherwise" Death said. Wanda deadpanned at her words, staring at her before sighing.
"Yes, I suppose that's the best way to describe it. But I truly do enjoy meeting new members of species from throughout creation. Like a new species I had met rather recently, that belongs to a magical species that uses spells by literally drawing circles in the air with fingers or staffs" Wanda replied, with Death raising an eyebrow in response.
"Drawing circles in the air? How interesting. I can think of a few species that use magic circles, but they also have runic craft within, not just a simple circle. What sort of magic do they use?" Death asked, truly curious as Wanda smiled.
"All sorts. But I was particularly interested in their "Abomination Magic" which was a form of biological manipulation, where they use this "Abomination Goop" to make creatures out of them. But that is very very loosely what it can actually do. I don't think the species even understands what that magic can truly do" Wanda answered.
"And what can it do?"
"Necromancy" Wanda replied. Death whistled at that, as necromancy, true necromancy, was very very rare throughout the universe. Well, except for on Earth, but Earth itself was a hub for a lot of things throughout the universe, so it wasn't a fair comparison at all.
"True necromancy? Or the skeleton kind that could get destroyed by a gust of wind?" Death asked, there was a lot of types of necromancy out there, but True and "False" Necromancy were the main ones that she knew of.
Necromancers were a pain in the ass to deal with at times, especially the ones that could truly bring the dead back to life. As that was an affront to...well, her. And she would have to either personally deal with the issue, or "Hire" someone to do it for her.
Very annoying to do.
"True necromancy. And with how easy their spells are to use and learn, should they ever find out how to do it, they'd be able to overcome mortality and just continuously resurrect one another" Wanda answered.
"Let me guess, the Death of that universe is not following the same rules as I am?" Death questioned, knowing that if this happened in the current universe, she would have to personally get rid of that problem. As such a thing would cause huge consequences on the greater multiverse, and was simply not okay to exist.
"Indeed. If I am correct - which I believe I am - then the death of that universe is far more...neutral, and likely doesn't even have sentience like you do. Most likely, death is more so a set of rules in that universe, and one can get around those rules rather...easily. What those rules are, I've got no clue, but they're obviously far different than what we have in this universe" Wanda responded with a nod, confirming Death's guess.
Death was different in every multiverse, and sometimes in different universes too. It entirely mattered on the place that you were, and the state of that universe. Some universes required far stricter forms of death, and some required no rules or restrictions at all.
DC required a lot of oversight for very obvious reasons thanks to the many many beings out there that could revive the dead and potentially unbalance reality. While in a universe like the Owl House, true necromancy had never actually been done before, meaning there was not a need for stricter rules, as the chances of said rules being broken was incredibly slim.
So slim that it would likely never even happen. Not without outside influence.
Like Wanda for example. Wanda giving the right books could give them the idea of using True Necromancy, and would therefore break the balance of that universe. Which would then cause a lot of problems. Which is why she had certain books in her shop - that are on necromancy - hidden and locked up whenever Amity came around.
She didn't want her to see them and try to use them. And she certainly did not want her to be the one to spread the art to others. Therefore making her the bad guy if it came to bite them all in the ass.
She thought ahead, basically.
"That sounds...concerning. All it'd take is one person that is a bit more...depraved than the others, to begin looking into the idea, and then that universe will begin to fall apart once it spreads. A recipe for disaster, just waiting to happen" Death said with a frown, not liking the sound of that universe and its rules.
It sounded...stupid.
"It is. But I'll probably head there sooner or later anyways. So once I do get there I'll just rework death a bit, so that it will stop True Necromancy from occurring, or at least stop it from occurring too much" Wanda replied, agreeing that it was an issue that would need to be solved.
Mostly for Amity more than anything. Thankfully, Wanda had more than enough power to rewrite the laws of Death in a universe like that one. She probably couldn't do it in DC or Marvel, but weaker universes like Owl House should be easy enough for her.
Sentience in death was a huge part of what made the various sentient deaths so strong. Without sentience, they were far far far weaker, and not capable of stopping her from reworking them to her own rules and laws.
"Good. I might not preside over that universe or anything, but I'd hate for an innocent universe - or multiverse - to fall apart thanks to the lacking set of rules that controls that place" Death said, happy to hear that Wanda already had an idea of how to deal with the universe and it's evident issues.
"So, besides the doom and gloom of that particular universe, are there any other universes you have connected to that are interesting?" Death asked, deciding to change the subject to something less gloomy and depressing.
"Well, I connected to a rather interesting universe that is entirely dominated and centered around the Gods, particularly the Greek Gods. Where they have this rather neat little camp that is specifically made for their Demigods, which in this universe, there are easily hundreds of" Wanda replied after a few moments of thought.
"Hah! Let me guess, Zeus has the most. Creator knows that that man sticks his stick in everything that moves" Death guessed.
"A good guess, but you'd be wrong. In actuality, the God with the most children in that universe, is funnily enough, Athena. She created them by melding her mind with a human, and did it...a lot more than she should have" Wanda replied with a shake of her head, but admitting it was a good guess.
Zeus was known for that sort of thing.
Hearing this, Death's eyebrow raised, as she couldn't help but lean forwards.
"Oh? Tell me more about this universe dominated by the Greek"
Wanda smiled at Death's ask, as she responded simply, before delving into the universe and it's intricacies. And what she had said was...
"With pleasure"
