Chapter 199 - Chapter 199: Jean Shops

[3rd POV]

It didn't take long for Jean to have picked out all of the books that she liked. Wanda and her younger counterpart had watched her the entire time, finding that she had picked out pretty much all of the books that Wanda had suggested.

But she had also gone and grabbed a few other books that Wanda was pretty sure was for the people back in the X-Men. There were some books on ancient storm magics, there were books on a lot of different things really. And pretty much all of the books that she had grabbed had some sort of relation to members of the X-Men team.

Wanda found it to be a little cute that she was basically buying a bunch of training guides for other members of her little group, but she also understood why. The training methods (if done properly) would massively increase the strength of quite a few of their members.

It would also help grant control to those same members. With these members having issues with fully controlling their powers. And even the ones that were capable of controlling their powers, did it through a LOT of concentration, and it was not really the easiest thing for them to do.

Especially when they were under stress, which was incredibly common given what they do, and what group that they were in. The X-Men were under stress literally every single day, because they were pretty much always under attack by a number of sources.

Mostly the racists that really did not like Mutants. Magneto and his group were also a consistent problem for them, or the other groups of mutants that were causing them so many issues. Then stack on the problems inside of the X-Men itself, like the relationship drama, the cheating, the lying, the manipulations, and it all combines to make it pretty miserable to be a member of the X-Men.

Wanda found the idea of being an X-Men to be absolutely miserable, to be honest. The idea of joining that group was just not at all appealing to her. Mostly because of how they basically had not a single moment of free time, nor did they ever have any kind of true safety.

They were constantly under some form of threat. And she just didn't see the appeal in...well, any of that to be frank.

"She's buying a lot more books than I did when I first came here" Wanda 616 noted, seeing the increasing stack that Jean was grabbing. The stack was getting big enough that she had to utilize her telekinesis in order to properly grab it all, not because it weighed a lot or anything, but because she literally just couldn't hold it all.

There were over a dozen books by this point, and she was still grabbing a few more. At this point it was actually books made around genes and genetics. Probably so that "Beast" or Hank could use it to potentially learn even more about the X-Gene than he already knew.

Wanda doubted he would get much information from it. As the X-Gene was advanced and pretty complicated. It was also not entirely scientific in nature, and she knew for a fact that there was a conceptual side to it, as well as a magical side too.

"Seems she's at least grabbing a decent selection of books. Most of them are also for her friends in the X-Men, not really for herself" Wanda responded to her younger counterpart, as Jean finally began to finish grabbing her non-fiction books.

She soon moved over to the fiction section, probably so that she could grab a few books for the kids to read. And she also had been glancing over at the comics and manga section quite a bit too, which showed that she was going to be buying something from there as well.

"Wouldn't it be smarter for her to just have them come here themselves? Sure they'd know better books to buy than the ones that she is grabbing" Wanda 616 asked, wondering why Jean didn't just wait and come back with Xavier and the others if she wanted to get more books for the others.

"Probably. But I don't think she is buying all of the books that they can use, but is instead buying the ones that are going to most likely be useful to them. Plus, there are still a lot more books that I sell here that I am certain the X-Men will find useful" Wanda replied to her younger counterpart, understanding the question.

"I guess that makes sense" Wanda 616 said simply, as they both watched as Jean began to finish grabbing the books that she wanted. As well as grabbing some comics and manga for the kids to read. She had mostly grabbed ones that are appropriate for kids, younger kids.

She did grab a couple for teens though.

After she finished her selection, she walked back to the counter, all of the books, comics, and manga floated onto the counter.

From what Wanda could tell it was around two hundred dollars worth of books, nothing too crazy. She soon began to check out all of the books, telling them the price as it went on in the form of a number that floated above the pile.

"Wow that's...cheap" Jean muttered, surprised. She was fully expecting the price of all the books to be double or triple what it was. Mostly because a number of the books looked very rare, and some of them looked very expensive thanks to their fonts, covers, and the quality of the book itself.

"I charge what I believe the books are worth, no more, no less. The truly expensive books are in the advanced sciences section, as well as the ancient magics section. Those are the books that can cost tens of thousands of dollars " Wanda explained to the woman, understanding the surprise.

"Why charge so little? Wouldn't you wish to make more money? You could easily charge around double what you are right now" Jean asked, making both Wanda and Wanda 616 stare at her, before Wanda let out a small laugh.

"Jean, I am an entity that surpasses the likes of the Phoenix Force and the Living Tribunal. Do you really think I need money? Or that money means anything to me? I own and run this shop because I enjoy it. I take cash and money in general because I enjoy it. All the money I receive is donated for the most part, with only a small part being used when I or my children go into a world that actually utilizes currency like that" Wanda replied, truly amused that Jean truly believed she cared about something like money.

She could make as much money as she could possibly ever want, so money was meaningless. And she could make as much gold as she wants, or any material you can even imagine for that matter.

There was only a handful of materials out there in the wider expanse of existence that Wanda could not make, and most of them were God level materials that were formed in ways that not even she could replicate. Materials that were literally made out of multiverses and stuff like that.

Or materials that were essences of past realities and past existences. The sort of stuff that was next to impossible to truly replicate and recreate.

Jean, hearing Wanda's response, couldn't help but go red out of embarrassment, realizing that Wanda was right. That something like money was literally nothing more than paper to her. And that she had so much power that making something like that was easier than creating just about anything you can think of.

Wanda 616 was barely holding back her laugh when she saw the expression on Jean's face, before she brought out her wallet and two crisp one hundred dollar bills. Jean looked like she was going to stop her from paying with her own money, but Wanda 616 gave her one look and Jean stopped.

"Anything else for you two?" Wanda asked, as Wanda 616 looked over to Jean who shook her head. Neither of them really wanted any sweets or bakery goods or anything like that.

With that, the two grabbed the large bags full of books.

"Come back once you finish those books, Jean" Wanda said, as the two of them began to walk off.

"Will do, and thank you Wanda!" Jean said, as the two of them soon walked out of the store, leaving Wanda alone once more.

And as she stood there, she had a smile still on her face, and one thought on her mind.

'I wonder when the Enterprise Crew will come back?'
