"Perhaps…" Len lowered his head and threw up a bit of bile. Out came the long stem that was attached to his throat. He frowned. "It seems that the plant dies when the flower is cut from the stem. Let's clear them later. We have to escape first."
Claude nodded and ran side-by-side with Len. The floor rocked again, but he had a better sense of balance now. Moreover, every time he fell, Len was there to catch his mate with his body.
They soon found the staircase from which the hunters descended. The wolves reached the ground floor, only to find blood everywhere. Hunters were also trapped under huge chunks of debris. It might as well be the source of explosion… or one of them. Another loud boom echoed along the facility, making Claude wince.
Len nudged at his mate before they continued their escape. When they felt the hot night breeze on their fur, Len knew they had found their way out. However, screams and flames welcomed them.
"Catch them!"
