Chapter 544 - Chapter 543: Poor Gin

After being provoked by the thief again and again, Gin fired mercilessly at Kaitou Kid. But the only thing he hit was a dummy—Kid had already slipped into the crowd.

Stirring the waters and vanishing—that was one of Kid's usual tricks.

Yes, the figure at the bow was just a decoy. The real Kid had long since blended in with the audience. He used a loudspeaker hidden in the dummy to speak. Once the chatter was over, the plan was for the dummy to soar into the air, explode, and vanish, while Kid disappeared once more into the moonlight—gone from the detective's sight. That was his original plan.

But things hadn't gone according to script. The plan was cut short midway, and Gin blasted the dummy apart.

"Kid??!!" Conan realized he'd been played again. Kid had been hiding all along, and he'd wasted so much time talking to a fake. Still, he was certain Kid hadn't left the ship yet. But where? With everyone around him covered in bizarre special effects makeup, it was impossible to tell which one was Kid.

"Big brother, something feels off," Vodka muttered. The crowd wasn't panicking—just staring around in confusion.

"I shot a dummy!" Gin felt his intelligence insulted yet again. The thief had tricked him once more. Fury surged as he swung the rifle. "Kaitou Kid, these people will die because of you." He thought just like Conan—Kid was still on the ship. Because that thief loved basking in the crowd's shocked expressions, he wouldn't leave without seeing it. Gin would force him out.

"Everyone, get inside!" Conan saw Gin's movements and turned pale. This was insane.

Even Vermouth was startled. She was on the ship too. If a bullet grazed her, she'd be injured if not killed. Gin had lost it.

But the audience still didn't understand. They stood frozen, clueless about what Conan was yelling. "Get down, hurry! It's a sniper! Get inside, into the cabin!"

Conan screamed, his voice raw, but it did no good. The crowd had no idea what kind of horror was about to unfold.

Then, a man dressed up as Thor stepped forward. He leapt lightly onto the railing. That man was Kaitou Kid, now disguised as the Asgardian thunder god, fake hammer in hand, standing firmly on the ship's edge.

"Get down! Their sniper fire hasn't stopped yet!" Conan shouted.

"Little detective, didn't you say without wind, the thief couldn't fly?" Kid called back. "Let me tell you, that's wrong. Because I, Kaitou Kid, can create wind myself. I'll still soar under the moonlight."

Shedding his disguise, Kid revealed himself once again.

Conan understood now. Kid had planned to hide among the people and then boldly walk off the ship at the end. But there was no wind tonight. What was he going to do?

Kid spread his glider wings and hurled himself overboard.

Conan ran to the rail just in time to see Kid rising from the sea surface. At the tail of his glider was a propeller. Conan was speechless. 'So this is what he calls creating wind? It's just an engine.'

Still, the thief was airborne, rushing straight at Gin.

"He's coming, he's coming!" Gin's hatred for the thief ran bone-deep. He wished he could tie Kid up and whip him, drip wax on him, torture him slowly. Electronic aiming was too slow. He yanked the Barrett off the tripod, braced it in his hands, and aimed down the scope with both eyes.

"Die, Kaitou Kid!"

In the distance came a flash—the muzzle spitting fire.

Gin's marksmanship was among the world's best. But Kid was even better. The bullets only ever grazed the edge of his wings.

"Gin, we meet again!" Kid laughed. It looked like this man really, truly hated him.

"Why won't you just die!" Gin emptied the last round. Right then, Kid landed squarely on their speedboat.

He planted both feet on the deck and stood tall, face to face with Gin.

Vodka pulled his handgun, but before he could fire, Kid shot a rose that lodged right in the barrel.

"You two are too passionate. I can hardly handle it," Kid said with a smile.

That feeling… Gin and Vodka felt their whole bodies lock up. Death. A feeling they'd always brought to others, but now it was pressed onto them.

Death!

Cold. Heavy.

Conan's eyes widened. He could see the black-and-white standoff across the sea. Just hearing their voices made him want to rush there and grab Gin himself.

Vermouth, listening through the earpiece, noticed how neither of them was speaking. If not for the faint breathing sounds, she would've thought there wasn't a living soul left on that boat. The atmosphere was so oppressive, it felt like a storm ready to break.

Whatever happened next, Vermouth was already sure of one thing—Kaitou Kid was definitely the Organization's enemy, and the hardest kind to deal with.

The Silver Bullet. In legends, the bullet that could kill evil beings. Kaitou Kid was absolutely that—one silver bullet that could wipe out the Organization. More terrifying than Conan himself.

Haibara Ai held her breath. Right there, just a thousand meters away, was her sister's killer. The one she had feared all her life. And now her foster father had completely suppressed him. At that moment, Haibara even forgot to breathe. This wasn't seeing it through a screen. This was real, right before her eyes.

"Who the hell are you?" After a long silence, Gin finally asked the one question he most wanted answered.

Kid laughed. "Then who are you?"

There would be no answer to that. Both of them only had codenames. One was Gin. The other, Kaitou Kid.

"You've crossed someone you shouldn't have," Gin growled, eyes locked on Kid.

"And haven't you done the same?" Kid shot back without fear. "You seem to be plotting something dangerous. Are you thinking about taking revenge on someone aboard this ship?"

Yes. Gin might not be Kid's match. But with so many people on the ship, surely one of them mattered to Kid. Kill them, and the thief would suffer endlessly.

Kid frowned. So poisonous. This man was forcing him to act. "Looks like you really do hate me. But I'll say this—you should never have entertained such thoughts. Let me send you to hell itself, to feel death firsthand. Death weighs ten million times heavier than pulling a trigger!"

"Accumulated Corpse Qi: Wave of the Underworld—"

A green light wrapped the entire speedboat. Then Gin and Vodka vanished. Sent to the gates of the underworld to reflect.

Gone? Akai Shuichi blinked. The FBI wasn't absent either. He was hidden at the stern, rifle ready—though it was only a prop brought aboard. Still, what he saw made no sense. Two members of the Organization had simply disappeared.

Vermouth only heard their screams through the earpiece. Vodka screaming was normal. But Gin too? That wasn't right. No matter how she called, there was no response. Only the inhuman cries of men echoing in her headset made Vermouth's blood run cold.

Gin was unlucky. If not for the need to leave Conan his growth and experience, he might have had a quick end. But because of Conan, he had to endure a torment worse than death. Hopefully, Gin wouldn't lose his mind.
