Chapter 646 - Chapter 522

The wind screamed across the Tatanka Plains as Yuma and Marya raced toward the serpent. The golden stag's hooves left lotus ripples in the air, each step a declaration of purpose. Marya's silver feathered robes billowed around her, her rainbow hair streaming behind her like a banner of celestial light. Nisshoku gleamed in her grip, the silver blade humming with the power of a thousand realms.

Neku's golden eyes blazed with fury. His massive serpentine body coiled, his crystalline scales shimmering with the power of pure elemental transmutation. The air around him crackled with energy, and the ground beneath him had turned to quicksilver, flowing like a river of liquid death.

"YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME?" Neku roared, his voice shaking the very foundations of the earth. "I AM THE SUN EATER! I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING SINCE BEFORE YOUR ANCESTORS LEARNED TO WALK!"

He struck.

Lightning forked from the churning sky, each bolt aimed at the charging figures. The bolts were not natural—they were weapons, extensions of his will, each one carrying the power to shatter stone and boil the sea. Behind the lightning came waves of quicksilver, flowing like a tidal wave of liquid destruction.

Marya's silver eyes blazed. She raised Nisshoku, pointing the blade as if the conclusion was already decided.

The attacks dissolved into nothingness.

The lightning vanished mid-strike, the bolts unraveling like threads pulled from a tapestry. The quicksilver waves collapsed, the liquid metal turning to harmless mist that drifted away on the wind. The air around Marya shimmered with the residue of her power, and her gaze was distant, as if she could see into the great beyond.

Neku's golden eyes went wide. "WHAT—WHAT IS THIS?"

Marya's voice echoed across the battlefield, in a deep, resonant tone of the French horn that had heralded her transformation. "This is the threshold. This is the end."

Neku cursed, his massive body writhing with fury. He craned his neck back, his jaws opening wide, and unleashed a deafening sonic attack—a wave of pure sound that rippled through the air like a physical blow.

Yuma moved.

The golden stag leaped in front of Marya, his lyre-shaped antlers glowing with a soft, warm light. He braced himself, his hooves planted against the ground, his golden form shimmering with the power of his Mythical Zoan. The sonic wave struck him like a hammer, but he held, his body absorbing the attack, his antlers flickering with the strain.

Neku's eyes widened. "IMPOSSIBLE! YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A—"

"I am the guardian of Amiso," Yuma's voice was soft, melodic, with the weight of absolute certainty. "I will not let you harm my people."

Neku's fury boiled over. "THIS IS NOT HOW I END! I HAVE WAITED EIGHT HUNDRED YEARS! I HAVE—"

He realized his attacks were futile. Marya dissolved everything he threw at her with a flick of her wrist. Yuma blocked everything that slipped past. The two of them, working in perfect synchronization, had become an unbreakable wall.

Neku's golden eyes shifted. His gaze turned from the charging figures to the island below. The people. The villages. The warriors who had been fighting to reclaim their home.

A cruel smile twisted his serpentine features.

"IF I CANNOT DESTROY YOU," Neku roared, "THEN I WILL DESTROY WHAT YOU LOVE!"

The quicksilver began to swirl. It rose from the ground in massive waves, flowing toward the island like a tidal wave of liquid death. The people below screamed, scrambling for higher ground, their faces pale with terror.

Yuma's eyes went wide. "NO!"

He turned, his golden form racing toward the island, his hooves pounding against the air. He placed himself between the people and the incoming waves, his antlers glowing brighter than ever before. His voice was a roar, raw and desperate.

"I WILL NOT LET YOU HARM THEM!"

The quicksilver crashed against him like a wall of liquid steel. Yuma braced himself, his golden form trembling with the strain. The people behind him were safe, but Neku's voice boomed across the chaos.

"YOU CANNOT PROTECT THEM ALL, LITTLE DEER! THERE ARE TOO MANY! TOO MANY PLACES TO BE! TOO MANY LIVES TO SAVE!"

Neku tried another attack—a wave of quicksilver aimed at a cluster of fleeing villagers. Marya's eyes blazed, and she flicked her wrist. The attack dissolved.

Neku tried again—lightning, magma, sonic waves. Each attack dissolved before it could strike. Marya's silver eyes were fixed on him, her gaze distant, as if she could see something beyond the physical world. Her voice echoed with the power of the French horn.

"This is your end, Neku. The Sun Eater's failure is complete."

Neku's fury boiled over. "BLASPHEMY! I WILL NOT—"

Marya's voice cut through his protests, cold and unwavering. "The darkest hour is upon us. The New Dawn beckons. The destined meeting is fast approaching."

Neku went still. His massive body froze, his golden eyes wide with something that might have been fear. His voice, when it came, was a desperate shriek. "NO! THIS CANNOT BE! THE GREAT MU—"

Marya pointed Nisshoku at him. The silver blade gleamed with the light of a thousand celestial realms.

And Neku dissolved into nothing.

The serpent's massive form unraveled like smoke caught in a gale. His scales scattered, his horns crumbled, his golden eyes faded to ash. The quicksilver waves collapsed, the lightning vanished, and the sky began to clear.

A shockwave erupted across the sea, rippling outward in rings of silver light. Everything became instantly still, followed by a deafening silence that swallow the world.

Peace descended.

Marya's form flickered. The silver feathered robes faded, replaced by her leather jacket and denim shorts. Her rainbow hair darkened to its familiar raven black. The celestial light in her eyes dimmed, and for a moment, she hung suspended in the air.

Then she fell.

The air rushed past her as she lost consciousness, her body tumbling toward the earth below. Her long raven hair streamed behind her, her eyes closed, her face peaceful.

---

Aurélie watched from under the ledge, her steel-gray eyes fixed on the falling figure. Atlas stood beside her, his rust-red fur bristling, his blue sapphire eyes wide with shock. Sanza's small frame was pressed against the rock, his red hair a mess of tangles, his face pale.

Sanza's voice cut through the silence, high-pitched and desperate. "BIG SIS!"

Aurélie turned her head, her silver hair whipping around her face. But before she could move, Bō-Zak was already gone.

The condor's massive form burst from the ledge, his wings catching the wind as he raced toward Marya's falling body. His gold-flecked eyes were fixed on her, his body shifting with the currents, riding fast and hard to get to her. He caught her in the air, her limp, unconscious body settled her onto his back.

"Gotcha!" Bō-Zak called out in relief. "That was close. Very close."

Aurélie flew up beside him, her locust wings humming with manic energy. Her silver hair streamed behind her, her steel-gray eyes fixed on Marya's unconscious form.

"Is she—" Aurélie started.

"She's breathing," Bō-Zak interrupted. "Just unconscious. She's going to need rest, and probably a lot of it, but she's alive."

Aurélie nodded, her jaw tight. "Let's take her to the ship. The Dreadnought is still in the harbor. We can get her to the medical bay."

Bō-Zak's smirk returned, sharp and amused. "I was hoping you'd say that. I was getting tired of carrying her, and she's not exactly light."

"She's unconscious," Aurélie said flatly. "She can't help being heavy."

"I'm just saying."

Aurélie turned her head, her steel-gray eyes scanning the chaos below. The shockwave had passed, leaving the island in a state of stunned silence. The warriors were emerging from their hiding places, their faces pale, their eyes fixed on the sky where Neku had been.

The battle was over.

But the consequences were just beginning.
