Chapter 650 - Chapter 524

The streets of Ooka-Hoop hummed with a quiet, reverent energy that had nothing to do with the bustling market stalls or the merchants hawking their wares. People moved aside as Marya, Atlas, and Sanza passed, their eyes wide, their whispers trailing behind them like smoke.

Marya's long raven hair swayed with the motion, and her mismatched eyes—one gold, one half silver—swept the crowd with the guarded attention. Her leather jacket with the Heart Pirates insignia was zipped halfway, and her tall combat boots scuffed against the cobblestones with each deliberate step. Denim shorts, a casual shirt, and the weight of Nisshoku on her back—she was a study in contradictions, a pirate walking through the heart of a nation that had just survived a god's wrath.

Atlas walked beside her, his rust-red ripling, his blue sapphire eyes scanning the crowd with the lazy vigilance. His leopard-like black spots to shifting with each movement, and his charcoal-tufted ears twitched forward as he caught snippets of conversation.

"Did you see her eyes? The silver one—"

"That's her? The one who fought the serpent?"

"They say she's a pirate. A daughter of a Warlord."

Atlas's grin was sharp, amused. "You're famous, boss. Enjoying the attention?"

Marya's voice was flat, unamused. "It's exhausting."

Sanza Kaplan Figarland walked on her other side, his small frame practically vibrating with barely contained energy. His unruly red hair was a mess of tangles, his Gundam t-shirt a declaration of defiance. His heavy Gallagher eyebrows were drawn down over his piercing eyes, and his high-crust posh accent cut through the noise.

"Exhausting? This is GLORIOUS! They're looking at us like we're—we're—"

"Gods?" Atlas offered.

"HEROES!" Sanza corrected, his voice carrying the weight of absolute certainty. "We're heroes, Atlas! We helped save the island! We—"

"We helped," Marya interrupted, her voice flat. "I don't know if that is how I would define your role."

Sanza's face went red. " I—I was providing tactical commentary! There's a difference!"

Atlas's laugh was a low rumble. "Sure there is, kid. Sure there is."

Sanza opened his mouth to respond, but his eyes caught something ahead—a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles, arranged in front of a picture of two people. A woman with kind eyes and a man with a gentle smile, their faces frozen in a moment of happiness that had been stolen.

Someone was placing a bouquet of flowers at the memorial. They looked up, their eyes bulging when they saw Marya, Atlas, and Sanza. Overwhelmed, they scurried off without a word.

Marya stopped. Her gaze fixed on the photograph, her expression unreadable.

Atlas's voice was soft, respectful. "This is them."

Marya didn't respond. She just stood there, her mismatched eyes fixed on the faces of the dead.

Aya Calian and Yuma Dasan appeared beside them, their footsteps silent on the cobblestones. Aya's simple earth-toned robe was dusty, her beaded hair tie askew, and her dark eyes were red-rimmed. She stepped forward, with a note of quiet grief.

"They were my parents."

Marya's mismatched eyes shifted to her. "I am sorry for your loss."

Aya knelt, lighting one of the candles with a steady hand. The flame flickered, casting dancing shadows across her face. "They were good people. They didn't deserve what happened."

Yuma's golden eyes were fixed on Marya, his voice soft and melodic, "You are awake. I'm glad."

Marya nodded. "I am."

Yuma stepped closer, his dark, solemn eyes widening with something that might have been awe. His voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper. "It is true, then. You are the daughter of a Warlord."

Marya sighed, the sound, she had been asked that question too many times. She turned away, her boots carrying her toward the Administrative Building. "Let's keep moving."

Yuma and Aya scurried to keep up, their footsteps quick against the cobblestones.

Aya's voice was breathless, her words tumbling out in a rush. "What you did—it was like watching one of our ancient stories manifest. The Sun Eater, the Celestial Omen—you were like a living legend, a force of nature, a—"

Marya's voice was flat, unimpressed. "Intriguing."

Aya blinked. "That's... that's all you have to say? 'Intriguing'?"

Marya didn't respond.

Yuma's voice carried a note of wounded pride. "Hey, I was there too. I helped."

Aya furrowed her brow at him as if to say really, but Yuma was oblivious, his golden eyes fixed on Marya with the intensity of a fan who had just discovered his favorite celebrity was real.

The Administrative Building loomed before them, a towering structure of white stone and ancient architecture. The doors swung open, and Marya stopped.

Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo stepped out of the building, flanked by Felice Pippas and Ash Dasan, who leaned on a walking cane. The blond Celestial Dragon moved with the fluid grace of a man who had been trained to command attention without seeking it. His pale gray eyes swept the courtyard, his handsome face carrying the aristocratic stillness of his bloodline.

Marya's jaw flexed. Her hand found Nisshoku's hilt.

Sanza was about to ask what was wrong, but Marya was already moving.

She drew Nisshoku, the obsidian blade becoming a streak of red, and charged. Her boots pounded against the cobblestones, her long raven hair streaming behind her like a banner of fury.

Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo's eyes narrowed. He moved with the fluid grace of a man who had been trained for exactly this moment, drawing Mephisto from his cane. The blade emerged with a whisper of steel, and he braced himself.

Marya appeared before him, Nisshoku meeting Mephisto with a shower of sparks. The impact sent a shockwave rippling through the courtyard, and Dunnjona grunted, his boots carving divots in the stone as he was pushed back.

Their eyes locked. His gray, hers gold and silver. The air between them crackled with tension.

Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo's voice was smooth, unruffled, as if he had been in worse situations and walked away. "It appears the tales of your end were exaggerated."

Marya's voice was flat, cold, "State your business. Now."

Felice Pippas rushed up, her face pale, and panicked. "He's here on diplomatic business! He's here to broker a deal for Mary Geoise! Please, put down the sword—"

Marya's mismatched eyes shifted to her, then back to Haigo. Her grip on Nisshoku didn't waver.

Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo's eyes narrowed, his gaze fixed on her face. "Your eyes..."

He didn't finish the sentence. Marya thrust him backward with enough force to send him crashing into the wall. The stone cracked, and Dunnjona crumpled, his breath escaping in a sharp exhale.

Ash Dasan leaned on his cane, his dark eyes watching the scene with a satisfied expression. His voice was a low rumble. "Impressive. She doesn't hesitate."

Yuma and Aya stood frozen, their eyes wide with shock. Atlas and Sanza were tense, their bodies coiled, ready to respond if necessary.

Marya stood over Dunnjona, her mismatched eyes blazing with cold fury. She pointed Nisshoku at him, the blade inches from his throat.

"Tell my brother he will be seeing me again." Her voice was flat, deliberate, each word a blade. "And know that I will come for you and anyone else who assumes to stand in my path."

Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo's eyes narrowed. He rose to his full height, brushing the dust from his tailored jacket with an air of wounded dignity. He placed both hands on the top of his cane, looking down his nose at her with the condescending grace of a man who had faced death and walked away.

"Noted," he growled.

They held a challenging glare for a long moment, the tension thick enough to cut with a blade.

Felice Pippas broke the silence, with desperate cheerfulness, determined not to let this one end in bloodshed. "Donquixote Dunnjona Haigo, I will escort you the rest of the way."

Marya's head turned, her mismatched eyes fixed on Haigo's retreating back as he walked away with Felice. Her glare was a challenge, a promise of violence to come.

Ash Dasan approached her, his dark eyes gleaming with approval. His voice was a low rumble, "It is good to see you are up and about."

Marya's head snapped around, her eyes meeting his.

Ash continued, tilting his head in a gesture of respect. "I am Ash Dasan, War Chief of Amiso. I've heard a great deal about you."

Marya nodded, sheathing Nisshoku with a fluid motion. "The feeling is mutual."

Ash stepped aside, gesturing toward the Administrative Building with the quiet authority of a man who had earned his place through blood and sacrifice. "If you please."

Marya nodded, her boots carrying her toward the door. Atlas and Sanza rushed to catch up, their footsteps echoing in the sudden silence.

Ash looked back at Yuma and Aya, who were still standing, awestruck. His voice carried the warmth of a father who had seen his son survive something impossible. "See you at the ceremony."

Aya nodded, her voice barely a whisper. "Yes, sir."

The doors swung shut behind Marya, Atlas, and Sanza.

Yuma's golden eyes were still fixed on the closed door, his voice a soft whisper. "She's incredible."

Aya's voice carried a note of dry amusement. "You're fangirling."

"I am NOT fangirling! I am—I am acknowledging greatness! There's a difference!"

Aya shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Sure, Yuma. Sure."
