Later that day, Xavier stepped out of the washroom after washing the grime and sweat off his skin. The comms panel on the wall chimed twice, and he slapped the receiver button with a wet hand.
"She is awake," the onboard doctor reported through the speaker. "Her vitals are completely stable."
Xavier turned the water off and pulled on a fresh pair of black trousers and a plain shirt from the cabinet. He walked straight out of the quarters and headed down the corridor toward the medical sector.
He pushed through the doors of the secure recovery ward and saw Lyra sitting on the edge of the elevated bed. The diagnostic cables were completely unhooked and tossed onto a nearby tray. Her silver hair framed her face as she held her hands up and stared at her palms. The traits from the mutation had retreated beneath her skin
She looked up when he walked into the room.
"You look entirely normal again," Xavier said.
