In a direct clash, Kahn not only failed to fall into disadvantage—he even managed to suppress Pakku for a while!
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Beams of blinding light streaked across the night sky, carrying unstoppable force.
Every impact exploded into flames, shockwaves, and roaring blasts. Neither flowing water nor thick ice could stop them; everything shattered under the explosions.
The Kahn who had been desperately dodging just moments ago suddenly turned into the aggressor, forcing Pakku onto the defensive.
The abrupt reversal made the two bystanders stare in surprise.
"This kid—he really does have some tricks. This is getting fun! Hahaha!"
King Bumi chuckled, equal parts excited and entertained. This fight was full of pleasant surprises.
Jeong Jeong, on the other hand, frowned deeply. Watching the relentless barrage Kahn unleashed, he muttered.
"Explosionbending… this is a very dangerous branch of Firebending. The most skilled practitioners were once an assassin family from the Fire Nation. But their Explosionbending is completely different from what Kahn is doing right now. This…"
Explosionbending was known for its destructive power—splitting mountains, pulverizing stone—but it was extremely difficult to control.
It required long channeling time and absolute concentration. The slightest mistake could cause premature detonation, injuring the user.
It was powerful but came with countless restrictions. Few practiced it, and even fewer mastered it.
Even that assassin family had to impose multiple limits to control the technique safely.
Jeong Jeong himself could use Explosionbending, but only in limited situations—usually to clear obstacles or blast open fortifications.
In real combat, it was too slow, too risky.
Yet Kahn was using Explosionbending as casually as if it were normal Firebending.
That made Jeong Jeong question his own understanding.
Could someone really use Explosionbending so effortlessly?
Or… was Kahn using something entirely different?
How strange. How unbelievably strange.
Lost in thought, Jeong Jeong's frown deepened.
Kahn was using Explosionbending—but not the orthodox version.
Traditional Explosionbending was exactly as Jeong Jeong described.
Even the charged attack Kahn used in his previous battle with King Bumi—an explosion that turned massive rocks into dust—had been classic Explosionbending.
Of course, if Jeong Jeong had seen how short Kahn's charge-up was that day, he would have been even more confused.
Kahn's powerful spirit and precise control gave him a tremendous advantage.
After learning Spiritbending, his fine control became even sharper. For him, even the dangerous Explosionbending felt unusually natural.
Still, standard Explosionbending took too long to charge to be practical in fast-paced combat.
So he created a simplified version: reduced power, faster activation.
It could no longer shatter mountains, but right now, its rapid-fire damage output made it the perfect weapon against water and ice.
When used with both hands, it resembled a continuous aerial bombardment.
On the other side, Pakku—though pressured—remained calm.
The flying blasts were dangerous, yes, but every explosion was skillfully deflected or neutralized. He suffered no injury.
Even so, he was surprised.
He had only planned to test how long Kahn could last. He hadn't used full power even once. Yet the fight had escalated into this?
This kid really is something.
Still, while admiration was fine, a Grandmaster being forced into a stalemate by a teenager would sound terrible if rumors spread.
This was far enough.
Pakku's aura suddenly shifted. His expression sharpened. He spread his arms and slammed them outward.
The glacier beneath him completely melted and surged upward, forming a massive tidal wave—tens of meters high—crashing toward Kahn like a collapsing mountain.
"!"
The sudden escalation caught Kahn totally off-guard.
He burst into flames, trying to escape upward, but the wave accelerated unnaturally, like a giant hand snatching him out of the air and slapping him back down.
Fortunately, at the last instant, he switched to Flame: Reversal, countering the impact and preventing injury.
After the strike landed, the giant wave dispersed, falling into the sea before freezing again into a glacier.
Kahn stood up, dazed, staring at the now-peaceful Pakku.
What the hell was that?!
Suddenly going all out, then dropping it immediately?
You old bastard, you have no martial ethics! Playing dirty like that!
Pakku, of course, didn't hear Kahn's furious internal screaming. With a calm expression, he stroked his slender gray beard.
"Your strength is not bad. I'll say you passed."
Even though Kahn took a silent hit, hearing that line was enough. He cupped his hands respectfully.
"Thank you for the compliment, Senior."
After two brief but intense exchanges, he had a clearer understanding of himself.
His battle instinct and adaptability were still lacking. His grasp of other bending disciplines was shallow.
In short—he lacked deep experience and solid accumulation. This had always been a weakness.
It simply hadn't appeared earlier because his enemies were too weak.
But in front of true Grandmasters, those shortcomings were exposed instantly.
No matter how creative his attacks were, Pakku and King Bumi could react almost instantly.
But he couldn't do the same with their moves—like the sudden giant wave.
However, aside from that… his raw strength was already frighteningly high.
He knew neither Bumi nor Pakku had gone all out.
But what about himself?
He still had more original techniques. And the Lightningbending he had learned yet never revealed? That was a true killing move.
"Right, Senior Pakku, there's something I want to ask you."
Now that the test was over, Kahn finally asked the question that had been on his mind.
"I once found a legend in an ancient text. It says the Northern Water Tribe possesses miraculous spiritual water that can heal any injury. Is that true?"
Pakku paused, then replied.
"You're not a child anymore. You should read fewer storybooks."
"I was reading an ancient text," Kahn said through clenched teeth.
This old man's mouth was truly vicious. If he weren't so strong, he'd have been punched long ago.
"That's just an ancient storybook. Same thing."
Pakku turned to walk toward Bumi and Jeong Jeong, clearly uninterested. After a few steps, he paused and casually added.
"Why do you ask? Curiosity?"
Though disappointed, Kahn answered honestly.
"I want to heal a scar on a friend's face."
"A scar? What's there to heal? Find something serious to do."
Pakku shook his head and kept walking.
Kahn didn't bother explaining further. As he passed him, he said firmly.
"To me, this is serious business."
"…"
Pakku stroked his beard again, watching Kahn's back with an unreadable expression—thoughtful, perhaps even slightly moved.
