Chapter 81 - Chapter 80: The Frost-Bite Forest and the Absolute Kinetic Domain ( Season 1 )

The roaring, violent fury of the Soul-Freezing Galesmith Storm finally exhausted itself just before dawn, leaving behind a world buried in pristine, deathly white silence.

As the first pale, golden rays of the winter sun pierced through the heavy morning clouds, they illuminated the Great Western Steppe. The endless plains were now covered in three feet of fresh, glittering snow, and the temperature hung at a bone-snapping twenty degrees below zero. The air was so brutally cold that every breath felt like inhaling fine glass dust.

Inside the grand hall of the Frost-Pint Inn, the roaring fires in the three stone hearths had burned down to glowing red embers. The boisterous energy of the previous night had completely vanished. Over two hundred hardened mercenaries, bounty hunters, and rogue cultivators sat in absolute, suffocating silence.

Every single pair of eyes in the tavern was fixed on the heavy oak doors at the front.

Li-Wen stood near the entrance, adjusting the collar of his torn dark traveler's coat. His broad shoulders were squared, and the massive, pitch-black heavy blade rested securely across his back in its unadorned iron scabbard. Beside him, little Xiao-Yue was bundled up in a thick, fluffy white sheepskin coat that the innkeeper had gifted her, her small face poking out from beneath a wool hood. She held her pink lotus lantern firmly in her left hand, its warm ruby flame pushing back the biting chill of the morning air.

"Thank you for the warm bed, Mr. Innkeeper!" Xiao-Yue smiled brightly, waving her small, gloved hand at the chubby man behind the bar counter. "The honey bread for breakfast was super yummy!"

"Y-You are very welcome, little miss," the innkeeper stammered, offering a nervous, trembling bow, his eyes darting anxiously toward the dark-coated man standing beside her. "M-May the mountain spirits guide your path."

At a large table near the central hearth, Commander Iron-Frost of the White-Frost Mercenary Guild sat with his two lieutenants. The towering, eight-foot-tall commander slowly raised his iron tankard of hot rum, offering a silent, solemn salute to Li-Wen's back. He knew exactly what was waiting for the solitary traveler in the woods five miles ahead.

Li-Wen did not turn back. He simply pushed the heavy oak doors open with a gentle nudge of his palm, stepping out into the blinding white expanse of the winter morning.

The moment the doors clicked shut behind them, the entire tavern erupted into a frenzy of frantic whispers!

"He actually left! He's heading straight for the Frost-Bite Forest!"

"The trackers from the Shadow-Blade Association slipped out two hours before dawn to set the trap! There are five hundred elite assassins waiting for him in those trees!"

"He is dead! A crippled Sovereign relying purely on physical strength cannot survive a coordinated ambush by four Stage-5 experts! Once his physical stamina breaks, the Void-Piercing Needle will shatter his heart!"

Commander Iron-Frost slammed his iron tankard onto his table, silencing the chaotic hall instantly. His single, sharp eye stared at the frosted windowpanes. "Fools," the commander muttered under his breath. "You measure the ocean's depth with a wooden stick. That man is not walking into an ambush... the ambush is in his way."

The five-mile trek across the snow-covered highway passed in quiet tranquility.

The fresh snow squeaked satisfyingly beneath Li-Wen's heavy leather boots. He walked with his unhurried, measured stride, his dark, void-like eyes sweeping casually across the frozen landscape. Deep within his lower spine, the dark-violet Void-Piercing Needle remained completely neutralized, sealed within its impenetrable shell of absolute-zero sapphire ice. He channeled absolutely no spiritual Qi, rendering his presence completely invisible to standard spiritual tracking arrays.

Xiao-Yue practically skipped beside him, using his broad leg to block the biting plains wind. "Brother Li-Wen, the snow is so sparkly today! It looks like crushed sugar!"

"It is bright, Xiao-Yue," Li-Wen murmured, his raspy voice gentle and steady. "Do not look directly at the snow for too long, or it will sting your eyes."

"Okay!" She nodded, holding her pink lantern a little higher to cast a warm red glow over the white ground.

An hour later, the vast, open plains began to narrow. Towering, ancient black pines, each over a hundred feet tall and thick as watchtowers, rose from the snow to flank the highway. Their dense, needle-laden branches interlocked high above, blocking out the golden morning sun and casting the road into deep, suffocating shadows.

This was the Frost-Bite Forest.

The moment they crossed the threshold into the tree line, the natural sounds of the winter morning—the whistling wind, the chirping of snow-sparrows, the rustling of dry branches—vanished completely.

An unnatural, deathly silence hung over the dark woods. The air grew perceptibly heavier, thick with an invisible, metallic scent of suppressed bloodlust.

Li-Wen did not slow his pace. He did not draw his heavy blade. He kept one hand tucked casually into his coat pocket, his other hand gently holding Xiao-Yue's small fingers.

Three hundred yards into the forest.

SNAP.

A single, crisp sound of a dry twig breaking echoed through the dark, shadowed trees.

Instantly, the ambient temperature in the forest plummeted!

"NOW! ACTIVATE THE HEAVEN-LOCK ARRAY!" A sharp, piercing voice shrieked from the high canopy above!

BOOOM—! BOOOM—! BOOOM—! BOOOM—!

Four massive pillars of blinding, sickly green spiritual light erupted from the four corners of the forest, instantly forming a colossal, cubic dome of suffocating energy that completely sealed off a one-mile radius! The spatial atmospheric pressure inside the dome multiplied by a thousand, turning the very air into a solid block of invisible steel!

This was the Four-Pillars Heaven-Lock Array—a high-grade Sovereign formation designed to completely sever a cultivator's connection to the world's spiritual energy and suppress all physical movement!

From the high branches of the black pines, over five hundred elite assassins clad in white-and-grey camouflage cloaks materialized like phantom specters!

These were the combined forces of the Shadow-Blade Association and the Golden-Eagle Sect! Every single one of them was at least a Stage-3 Peak or Stage-4 expert, armed with heavy crossbows, poisoned throwing daggers, and soul-hooking chains!

Descending slowly from the sky, hovering just fifty feet above the frozen highway, were four terrifying figures radiating the overwhelming, suffocating auras of Stage-5 Sovereigns!

The first was an old man in golden robes—Lord Blood-Owl of the Golden-Eagle Sect.

The second was a gaunt, snake-like woman covered in dark scales—Viper-Shadow.

The third was a massive brute wielding a spiked iron pillar—Elder Iron-Spine.

And the fourth was the gaunt, pale-faced tracker who had sat in the Frost-Pint Inn just hours ago—Phantom-Ice, a master of assassination arrays.

"Hahahaha! We have you now, Northern Sovereign!" Lord Blood-Owl laughed maniacally, his golden robes fluttering in the aggressive spiritual wind. "The Black-Crag Pass was destroyed because the Blood-Axe Tyrant was a foolish brute who fought you on the ground! But we are not so stupid! We have sealed the space, locked the earth, and severed your connection to the spiritual veins!"

Phantom-Ice, the gaunt tracker, sneered, his yellowed eyes locking onto the dark-violet spots of frozen blood on Li-Wen's torn coat. "Your meridians are sealed! You cannot use a single drop of Qi! A cultivator who relies purely on physical strength is nothing but a ground-bound insect before flying Sovereigns! Hand over your head, your heavy blade, and the child's lantern, and we will grant you a swift death!"

Down on the frozen, shadowed highway, Li-Wen stood perfectly still.

The thousand-fold spatial pressure of the Heaven-Lock Array pressed down upon his broad shoulders like a falling mountain. Yet, his dark traveler's coat did not even wrinkle. His boots did not sink a single millimeter into the snow. To a man whose physical bone density rivaled the core of a collapsed star, spatial pressure was merely an illusion of weight.

Xiao-Yue blinked her large eyes, looking up at the hundreds of men in white cloaks standing on the tree branches, and the four floating people yelling from the sky.

"Brother Li-Wen..." Xiao-Yue whispered, squeezing his fingers. "The noisy people are back. Are they going to ask for tea money too?"

"They have no money, Xiao-Yue," Li-Wen replied softly, his deep, raspy voice perfectly calm, entirely unfazed by the five hundred assassins aiming lethal weapons at their heads. "They only have loud voices."

"KILL HIM! DROWN HIM IN POISON!" Viper-Shadow shrieked, pointing her scaled finger down at the highway!

SWOOSH—! SWOOSH—! SWOOSH—! SWOOSH—!

Over five thousand poisoned crossbow bolts, throwing knives, and explosive spiritual talismans rained down from the dark canopy! The sky was completely blotted out by a localized storm of lethal, green-tinted steel, all converging directly upon Li-Wen and the small girl standing beside him!

The four Stage-5 Sovereigns simultaneously unleashed their ultimate techniques! A massive golden eagle construct, a colossal shadow-serpent, a descending iron pillar, and a storm of freezing ice spears all plummeted toward the ground with the force of a falling meteor!

They intended to vaporize Li-Wen and the child in a single, overwhelming strike, ensuring that his physical strength could not be brought to bear!

Faced with an apocalyptic rain of steel and Sovereign-level attacks, Li-Wen did not draw the heavy blade resting on his back. He did not unseal his poisoned meridians. He did not show a single trace of fear, anger, or effort.

He simply let go of Xiao-Yue's hand for a brief second.

"Close your eyes for a moment, Xiao-Yue," Li-Wen said softly. "The wind is about to pick up."

"Okay!" Xiao-Yue obediently squeezed her eyes shut, hugging her pink lantern to her chest.

Li-Wen took a half-step forward, planting his right leather boot firmly onto the packed snow of the highway.

He bent his right knee slightly, pulling his right fist back to his waist.

He did not channel Qi. He did not summon elemental magic.

He simply engaged the raw, absolute, primordial kinetic mass stored within the absolute-zero marrow of his right arm. The muscles beneath his charcoal tunic condensed with such terrifying density that the surrounding space physically warped, bending the incoming light around his fist!

Then, with a motion so fast it completely bypassed the concept of time and visual perception, Li-Wen threw a single, simple, upward punch into the empty air above him.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM—!!!

There was no flash of light. There was no spiritual shockwave.

There was only pure, unadulterated, absolute kinetic annihilation.

The sheer physical force of Li-Wen's punch instantly shattered the sound barrier, the atmospheric barrier, and the spatial barrier simultaneously! A compressed vacuum cylinder of sheer, absolute-zero kinetic force—three hundred yards in diameter—erupted straight up into the sky like an invisible pillar of primordial destruction!

The rain of five thousand poisoned bolts and daggers? Atomized into microscopic dust the instant the kinetic shockwave touched them!

The four ultimate Stage-5 Sovereign attacks? Smashed into meaningless sparks of fading light!

The high-grade Four-Pillars Heaven-Lock Array? Shattered like fragile glass, its green pillars exploding into billions of useless shards!

The kinetic shockwave did not stop. It tore upward, expanding violently as it hit the canopy of the ancient black pines!

"WHAT THE—?!" Lord Blood-Owl only managed to scream half a syllable before the invisible kinetic wall slammed into him!

CRUSH—!

The four Stage-5 Sovereigns—Lord Blood-Owl, Viper-Shadow, Elder Iron-Spine, and Phantom-Ice—were instantly subjected to a physical impact equivalent to a million-ton glacier slamming into them at the speed of sound. Their Sovereign-grade defensive barriers, their legendary armors, and their golden cores completely collapsed in a microsecond!

They didn't even bleed. The absolute-zero cold carried within Li-Wen's physical kinetic force snap-froze their blood instantly. In the blink of an eye, the four mighty Sovereigns shattered into millions of sparkling pale-blue frost crystals, completely erased from the mortal realm!

The five hundred elite assassins hiding in the branches suffered the exact same fate.

The kinetic shockwave tore through the trees, ripping the hundred-foot-tall black pines out by their roots and atomizing them into splinters! The five hundred assassins were crushed and frozen simultaneously, their bodies turning into clouds of fine blue frost-dust that violently erupted into the sky!

In less than three seconds, the deafening explosion ceased.

The terrifying shockwave dissipated high into the winter clouds, forcefully blowing away the heavy cloud cover and revealing the bright, crystal-clear blue sky above.

Silence—absolute, profound, and terrifyingly serene—returned to the forest.

Li-Wen slowly lowered his right fist, relaxing his stance. He casually slipped his hand back into his dark coat pocket and took a quiet, slow breath, stabilizing the frozen shell around the Void-Piercing Needle in his spine.

He looked around.

The road ahead was completely clear. In fact, an entire one-mile stretch of the dense, ancient Frost-Bite Forest had been completely eradicated, leaving a perfectly smooth, three-hundred-yard-wide trench of cleanly packed snow that stretched straight toward the western horizon.

There were no bodies. There were no weapons. There was only a beautiful, glittering shower of pale-blue frost-dust drifting down from the sky like a gentle, sparkling snowfall under the bright morning sun.

"You can open your eyes now, Xiao-Yue," Li-Wen said softly, extending his broad hand toward her.

Xiao-Yue opened her large, clear eyes. She blinked in wonder as she looked at the massive, perfectly cleared path ahead, and the beautiful, sparkling blue frost-dust falling gently around them.

"Woah!" Xiao-Yue gasped, her face lighting up with pure, innocent delight. She reached out her small hand, trying to catch a piece of the sparkling blue dust. "Brother Li-Wen! The dark trees are gone! And look, it's snowing blue sparkles! It's so pretty!"

"It is," Li-Wen murmured, his raspy voice entirely calm as his broad fingers gently wrapped around her small hand once more.

He didn't bother looking back at the few remaining, half-shattered pine trees on the periphery. He didn't care about the immense bounties, the legendary guilds, or the terrified tracking organizations that would soon discover the mile-long crater in the forest.

He was the Northern Sovereign. If a mountain blocked his path, he flattened the mountain. If a forest hid his enemies, he erased the forest.

"The sun is out," Li-Wen said softly, his dark, void-like eyes looking toward the distant, towering peaks of the deep Western Continent. "Let us keep walking. The next town is far."

"Okay!" Xiao-Yue smiled brightly, holding her pink lotus lantern securely as she fell back into step beside him.

Together, the solitary man carrying a heavy blade and the small girl holding her lantern walked forward through the pristine, sparkling trench of shattered ice, their calm footsteps leaving a quiet, steady rhythm upon the frozen plains of the Western Continent.
