Zane didn't like lying to her, but he had intentionally sent Damien away while she was busy with the police. He just wanted to be sure she was stable tonight. Only then would he be at peace.
Selina gritted her teeth, turning sharply as he headed for her door. "This is my house. You don't get to move around as you please, and I'm not accommodating you."
Zane halted on the cement stairs as Selina brushed past him, coming to a stop on the threshold. The porch light cast long, sharp shadows across the entryway, their silhouettes mirroring the soft glow of the moonlight that washed over them.
"You won't?"
"No. I won't," she said firmly, punching her passcode into the lock. She turned around to dismiss him once and for all, refusing to let him stand there like a lost puppy.
But before she could speak, Zane's voice dropped to a whisper.
