Chapter 44 - Meeting points Part 1,11

Day crossed into night, night to midnight with them between the orchard and a tiny stream. The second was a quieter affair, but so intense time was lost to her.

She was up to her knees in the tiny stream, bent and splashing water into her mouth. Sitting back, she stared at the sky. Her wings tingling, perking up at the prospect. There'd been a wholly new form of flight she'd tasted.

To even imagine such, joy?

Heather was at a loss. Weren't things supposed to suddenly be clearer? After such a godly moment wasn't the world supposed to open up to her? And she'd be able to see the gods themselves moving in the clouds.

"Again?"

Heather grinned, in the wrong light, namely any light at all, her smile may have seemed menacing, blood thirsty even.

"One night. The border's within sight, the carriage will get there tomorrow, and I need to fly the moment day breaks. Which means we have a lifetime to make up for in only a few hours. So, get ready. I want to test how much stamina humans have."
