I had been laying on the sofa for a couple of hours right after dinner, watching television alone in the dark. The volume of the show I was watching was soft, evoking a cosy atmosphere for a lie in in the middle of winter.
It must have been probably around eleven at night. But Edmund had not returned home from work yet. My eyelids fluttered, trying to resist the temptation to snooze no matter how badly I fought. I swear it was only a nano second blink but when I opened my eyes, I was already in Edmund's arms.
"Ed?" I whispered in between my consciousness and unconsciousness. My head looked up, trying to find his features in the shadow even though it was his scent that gave him away.
"Go to sleep," he hushed. His voice sounded tired but I could tell he was smiling.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and snuggled in his warm, broad chest. One deep breath I took to bask in his scent, feeling utterly comfortable and relaxed to know he was finally home.
