Havoc's body convulsed violently as wave after wave of unimaginable agony coursed through every muscle, bone, and nerve. It felt less like surgery and more like his entire body was being ripped apart and stitched back together by the hands of a sadistic god. Every scream that escaped his throat echoed throughout the room, but there was no mercy to be found. If Hell itself had a cosmetic surgeon, even the Devil would have been impressed by what had just taken place.
Vael'thrix let out a long, satisfied sigh before a smug smile spread across his face. "Ooh... now that was the ticket," he said, stretching his shoulders as if he'd just finished a relaxing hobby. "Nothing beats teaching a dog to be a little more obedient. I do hope this time you remember your place, mutt. Any more smartass remarks from that mouth of yours, and I swear to you, this was only a small punishment." His smile widened. "Besides, I also did it to make sure you look more presentable. I don't want my comrades seeing my champion looking like a pig."
Still trembling, Havoc struggled just to lift his head. Every movement sent fresh pain through his body, but the hatred burning in his eyes never wavered as he glared directly at Vael'thrix. "You know..." he rasped through gritted teeth, "...if you wanted me to lose weight, why the fuck didn't you just buy me a goddamn gym membership and wait until I looked more presentable? Or better yet, you're a fucking demigod. Couldn't you have just made me skinny, you fucking asshole?"
"Oh?" Vael'thrix's grin somehow became even more sinister. "Does the dog still require more lessons in obedience? Because I'd be more than happy to continue."
Before he could say another word, something suddenly rang through his mind like a distant bell. His expression shifted ever so slightly as though he'd sensed something approaching. "Hm... perhaps not right now," he muttered. "It seems our guests have arrived."
With a snap of his fingers, an enormous wardrobe materialized beside Havoc. The polished doors slowly creaked open, revealing rows upon rows of expensive clothing.
"Here, mutt," Vael'thrix said dismissively. "I brought you some clothes that make you look at least somewhat presentable—or something more suited to your taste. Go ahead and pick something out. But do try to choose something outstanding, would you? I'd much rather have my colleagues jealous of how magnificent my champion looks."
Havoc clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white. Every instinct screamed at him to tell this arrogant bastard exactly where he could shove those clothes, but he forced himself to stay quiet. He had already endured the most horrific weight-loss program imaginable, and he had no desire to discover what other twisted punishments this psychotic demigod had waiting for him. For now, he told himself, I'll play the obedient dog. But he made himself a silent promise.
I swear to God... no, I swear to myself... I'll fucking make you pay for this someday.
"Fine," Havoc spat bitterly, raising both hands to make exaggerated air quotes. "I'll look more 'presentable' for your fucking games."
Vael'thrix was growing tired of his champion's constant sarcasm. Every smart remark made him want to drag Havoc right back onto the operating table and teach the mutt another painful lesson in obedience. Unfortunately, he had more important matters to attend to. His guests had arrived, and he didn't have time to discipline his champion any further.
Still, judging by the look on Havoc's face, he could tell the human finally understood. One more act of disrespect, one more insult, one more embarrassing outburst in front of the other demigods, and the punishment waiting for him would make today's ordeal seem merciful.
A satisfied smirk spread across Vael'thrix's face. "Good dog. Get yourself ready and meet me at the Coliseum in ten minutes. And if you're not there... well, you already know the price you'll be paying."
Havoc clenched his fists so tightly his nails dug into his palms. Every instinct screamed at him to tell this arrogant bastard exactly where he could shove his orders, but the memory of the agony he had just endured forced him to swallow every insult. Through gritted teeth, he replied, "I'll be there... your lordship. And I promise I'll be on my best behavior and won't make you look like a fool." The words tasted like poison. Then, doing something that made him hate himself even more, Havoc lowered his head in a respectful bow. His blood boiled so fiercely it felt like it could melt steel, but for now he would play along.
Vael'thrix nodded in satisfaction. At last, the mutt appeared to understand his role and know his place. Without another word, the demigod turned and left the room to greet his fellow demigods, leaving Havoc alone to prepare.
The moment the door shut behind him, Havoc let out the breath he'd been holding. "You think you control me, you fucking librarian wannabe, motherfucker," he muttered under his breath. "Just wait."
Marching over to the massive wardrobe, Havoc threw open the doors and stared at the countless outfits inside. "Great... because I'm such a fashion expert," he mumbled sarcastically as he sifted through shirts, jackets, pants, and boots.
Before long, his attention drifted toward the mirror. He stopped and looked at his reflection.
"...Okay," he admitted reluctantly. "I hate that bastard's guts... but damn."
His body had changed completely. Gone was the overweight frame he'd lived with for years. In its place stood a lean, muscular physique with broad shoulders, defined arms, and a sculpted chest. He turned sideways, flexed an arm, then lifted his shirt slightly.
"...Eight-pack abs? Seriously?"
Curiosity got the better of him, and he briefly checked beneath his waistband to make sure everything was still... intact.
"Huh."
After a moment of silence, he let out a low whistle. "You really are a fucked-up demigod... but I'll give you this, you sure know how to make a guy look more presentable."
Shaking his head, Havoc quickly pushed the thought aside before Vael'thrix somehow found another excuse to torment him. "Yeah... let's not risk him deciding to undo all this out of spite."
Returning his attention to the wardrobe, he searched through the endless selection until one outfit finally caught his eye. He wasn't exactly fashionable, but this one looked right. After getting dressed, he stepped back in front of the mirror.
A long black trench coat draped over a fitted black high-collar shirt, matching black gloves, black pants, and sturdy black boots. The outfit was simple, clean, and intimidating without trying too hard.
Havoc gave himself one last look and smirked.
"Not bad... I look like Noir from The Matrix. All I need now is a pair of black sunglasses."
Havoc's smirk disappeared the moment he remembered how much time he had left.
"Shit."
He had less than four minutes to reach the Coliseum. If he arrived late, he would have to face the wrath of a certain douchebag of a demigod, and after the punishment he had already endured, Havoc had no desire to discover what Vael'thrix had planned next.
Without wasting another second, he rushed out of the room and ran through the enormous halls as fast as his newly transformed body could carry him. He was still getting used to how much lighter and faster he felt, but there was no time to admire it.
He reached the entrance to the Coliseum with only a few seconds to spare and hurried inside, expecting to find Vael'thrix waiting for him.
Instead, he found nothing but darkness.
"The fuck?"
Havoc stopped and looked around, but he could not see anything. There were no walls, no seats, no floor markings, and not even the outline of the entrance behind him. It felt as though he had stepped into an empty void rather than a stadium.
Then the lights suddenly came on.
Havoc shielded his eyes as thousands of brilliant lights illuminated the massive Coliseum. Stone seats rose in every direction, stretching so high that he could barely see where they ended. The arena itself was larger than any stadium he had ever seen, and strange constellations moved slowly across the ceiling like living paintings.
At the highest point of the Coliseum stood an elevated platform supported by enormous marble pillars. Sitting at the center of it was Vael'thrix, looking down upon the arena like an emperor addressing his subjects.
Havoc stared at him with a flat expression. "The douchebag actually looks like Julius Caesar. All he needs is someone to stab him in the back."
He paused for a moment.
"Preferably me."
He kept that last thought quiet.
Vael'thrix rose from his seat and spread his arms as if the entire Coliseum had been built solely for his entrance. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. I am delighted that all seven of you were foolish enough to accept the roles chosen for you."
Havoc frowned. "Accept? I don't remember accepting shit."
Vael'thrix ignored him and continued. "Each of you has been selected to participate in a championship unlike anything your insignificant worlds have ever witnessed."
Six figures slowly stepped out from the darkness behind him.
Unlike Vael'thrix, every one of them wore long ceremonial robes and elaborate masks that concealed their entire faces. Their clothing differed in shape and design, but each outfit was clearly meant to prevent anyone from identifying them.
Havoc looked between them. "What is this, some kind of cosmic secret society?"
Vael'thrix's eye twitched slightly, but he kept smiling. "I know what many of you are wondering. Why are my colleagues hiding their appearances while I stand before you openly?"
He placed one hand against his chest with exaggerated pride. "The answer is simple. I am the host of these games. Therefore, my rules are absolute."
One of the masked demigods turned toward him, clearly irritated by the statement, but said nothing.
"My colleagues know who each other are," Vael'thrix continued. "However, their champions will remain unaware of one another's identities until I decide otherwise."
Havoc blinked and finally looked around the arena.
Six other champions stood at different points across the Coliseum floor, but none of them had a visible appearance. Every champion looked like the same featureless black silhouette, with no face, hair, clothing, race, or physical details to tell them apart.
They looked like human-shaped shadows drawn by someone who had given up halfway through.
"What the hell?" Havoc muttered.
He looked down at his own body and saw that he appeared normal to himself. His coat, gloves, hands, and boots were all visible. That meant only the other champions had been hidden from his view.
Vael'thrix chuckled. "You are probably wondering why your opponents resemble poorly designed stick figures."
Havoc raised an eyebrow. "At least he admits it."
"The enchantment prevents every champion from seeing or hearing anything that could reveal another champion's identity. Their height, body type, species, voice, clothing, and even mannerisms have been concealed."
Vael'thrix slowly looked over the seven champions. "You may speak to one another, but the enchantment will alter your voices. You may approach one another, but you will not discover anything useful. Until the proper moment arrives, each of you will remain a mystery."
His smile widened. "I enjoy mysteries. I enjoy uncertainty, confusion, and fear. Most of all, I enjoy surprises."
Havoc folded his arms. "Of course you do."
Vael'thrix's gaze moved toward him for a moment, but he chose not to respond. "Now, let us discuss why you have been brought here."
The lights above the arena dimmed as a single beam of golden light descended into the center of the Coliseum. The floor began to shake, and an enormous circular platform slowly rose from beneath it.
Standing upon the platform was a magnificent throne.
It was larger than any ordinary throne and appeared to have been made from several impossible materials at once. Parts of it resembled polished gold, while others looked like black stone filled with moving stars. Ancient runes glowed across its surface, and streams of white energy flowed through the armrests and into a large symbol carved into the back.
Even Havoc stopped joking for a moment.
Vael'thrix extended one hand toward it. "Behold the Throne of Sovereign Ascension."
The masked demigods watched the throne in complete silence.
"This is no ordinary seat," Vael'thrix continued. "Once fully awakened, it possesses the power to transform a demigod into a true god. Not merely a stronger divine being, but an entity whose authority can reshape reality itself."
Havoc stared at the throne. "That sounds incredibly safe."
"The throne has remained dormant for countless millennia because it requires an unimaginable amount of energy to awaken," Vael'thrix said. "Energy that none of us can provide alone without destroying ourselves in the process."
He walked slowly along the edge of the platform. "My colleagues and I have fought over who deserves to claim it. We have waged wars, destroyed kingdoms, shattered dimensions, and tested our power against one another more times than any of us care to remember."
One of the masked demigods crossed their arms.
"Unfortunately, none of us could achieve a decisive victory," Vael'thrix continued. "Our battles became repetitive. Predictable. Boring."
Havoc stared up at him. "So this entire thing started because a group of immortal assholes got bored."
Vael'thrix gave him a warning look. Havoc immediately turned away and pretended to study the throne.
"Rather than continue wasting our time," Vael'thrix said, "we created a wager. Each demigod selected one mortal champion. You seven will travel across different worlds, complete objectives, alter their destinies, and gather the energy required to awaken the throne."
A glowing image appeared above the arena, showing countless worlds floating like small spheres in an endless sea of stars.
"Every world possesses something called World Energy. It is created by the lives, choices, conflicts, and destinies of those who exist within that reality."
Several of the glowing worlds developed bright lines around them, representing their original timelines.
"Each world follows a destined path. Certain people rise. Certain people fall. Wars begin. Heroes triumph. Villains are defeated. Lives are saved or lost according to the history already written."
Vael'thrix closed his hand, and the lines surrounding one world suddenly shattered.
"When a champion interferes with that destiny and causes a significant change, the world produces additional energy as reality attempts to adjust to the new path."
The shattered lines reformed into several different timelines.
"The greater the alteration, the more World Energy is created. Saving someone who was meant to die, destroying an enemy who was meant to survive, preventing a war, causing a war, overthrowing a ruler, changing the outcome of a major event, or completely conquering the world's intended fate will all generate energy."
Havoc frowned. "So we're supposed to go around ruining timelines?"
"You are supposed to break fate," Vael'thrix replied. "Whether you ruin or improve the world is entirely up to you."
That answer caught Havoc's attention.
Vael'thrix gestured toward the Throne of Sovereign Ascension. "The World Energy gathered by each champion will be transferred into the throne. Once enough has been collected, it will awaken, and the final stage of the wager will begin."
The image of the worlds disappeared.
"As you complete objectives and alter fate, you will also grow stronger. Your bodies, skills, abilities, and potential will develop far beyond the limits of your original worlds."
Vael'thrix raised his hand, and seven different symbols appeared in the air. Each symbol looked ancient and dangerous, but none of the champions could clearly understand what they represented.
"To assist you, each champion has been granted a unique System. These Systems are not identical. Every one possesses different functions, powers, limitations, and methods of progression."
The seven symbols began glowing in different colors.
"Each System carries the power of one of the Seven Deadly Sins."
A nervous silence spread through the champions.
Vael'thrix smiled as though he had been waiting for that reaction. "Long ago, the Seven Deadly Sins were not merely ideas or weaknesses within mortal minds. They were living forces—ancient entities whose power spread across countless realities."
The symbols shifted, briefly forming the shapes of enormous creatures before returning to their original forms.
"My colleagues and I defeated those beings and claimed what remained of their authority. Their power has now been divided between your Systems."
Havoc narrowed his eyes. He still had no idea which Sin his own System represented, and judging by Vael'thrix's expression, the bastard had no intention of telling him yet.
One of the shadowed champions finally spoke, their voice altered into a strange, genderless tone. "If these beings were powerful enough to affect countless realities, how did you defeat them?"
Vael'thrix smiled smugly. "With ease."
Havoc sighed. "Here we fucking go."
"They were dangerous by mortal standards," Vael'thrix continued, ignoring him. "But to us, they were little more than an entertaining warm-up."
Havoc rubbed his forehead. "Can this asshole go five minutes without praising himself?"
Vael'thrix's smile finally vanished. "Would you like to repeat that more loudly, mutt?"
Havoc immediately straightened his posture. "I said your victory sounds very impressive, your lordship."
Vael'thrix stared at him for several seconds before turning back toward the other champions. "As I was saying, your Systems will guide your growth, provide objectives, measure your progress, and reward you for altering the fate of every world you enter."
He lifted both hands as the seven symbols disappeared.
"However, do not mistake these gifts for freedom. Every System was created for this championship, and every champion exists to serve the purpose of the wager."
Havoc clenched his jaw but stayed quiet.
Vael'thrix smiled again. "Now that you understand the throne, World Energy, and the origins of your Systems, we may proceed to the tools you will receive before your first journey."
He raised one finger.
"Let us discuss your Beginner's Gift Packages."
Absolutely.
Vael'thrix raised one finger. "Now then... let us discuss your Beginner's Gift Package."
Five glowing objects materialized before each champion. Four were circular tokens that hovered in the air, while the fifth resembled the outline of a weapon forged entirely from light.
"As a gesture of goodwill," Vael'thrix said with a smug smile, "every champion shall begin with one Weapon Token and four Summon Tokens. Consider them my generous gift."
Havoc looked at the four tokens floating before him. Three glowed green, while the fourth shined blue. "...Well, at least I got one rare."
"The Weapon Token is straightforward," Vael'thrix continued. "Unlike Summon Tokens, a Weapon Token allows you to choose exactly what kind of weapon you desire. Sword, spear, hammer, bow, firearm, scythe, or any other weapon your imagination can conceive. Your System will then forge a weapon specifically suited to you."
He raised another finger. "However, do not mistake freedom for limitless power. Your Weapon Token is bound by your current level of strength. If you attempt to obtain a weapon far beyond what your body or System can safely wield, your request will simply be denied. In some cases, your System may instead forge the strongest version of that weapon you are currently capable of using. As you grow stronger, your weapon will continue to evolve alongside you until it eventually reaches its true potential."
Havoc scratched the back of his head. "So... no skipping straight to the overpowered stuff."
"For once," Vael'thrix replied, "you understand something."
The four remaining tokens floated higher as they slowly changed colors. "Unlike Weapon Tokens, Summon Tokens are completely random. You cannot choose who answers your call. When activated, they summon a companion from another world to aid you on your journey, and the System alone decides who that companion will be."
The glowing tokens shifted through several colors before settling into five examples. "Green represents Common. Blue represents Rare. Gold represents Legendary. Purple represents Mythical." The final token suddenly erupted into a brilliant white glow that illuminated the entire Coliseum. "...And White represents Absolute, the rarest summons in existence. Many champions complete an entire tournament without ever obtaining one."
Havoc folded his arms. "So... it's basically a cosmic gacha machine."
Vael'thrix ignored the remark. "The four Summon Tokens before you are merely your Beginner's Gift Package. Once they have been used, every additional Weapon Token and Summon Token must be earned through your own accomplishments."
He waved his hand, causing countless symbols to appear behind him. "Complete your world's primary objectives, side quests, hidden quests, difficult challenges, discover forgotten locations, collect rare artifacts, defeat powerful enemies, or significantly alter a world's fate, and your System may reward you accordingly. Summon Tokens are the more common reward, while Weapon Tokens are considerably rarer. Your System alone decides whether your achievements are worthy of either."
With another snap of his fingers, an enormous translucent window appeared behind him. Rows upon rows of weapons, armor, rings, potions, books, scrolls, artifacts, tools, crafting materials, food, accessories, and countless other treasures filled the display.
"Oh yes," Vael'thrix said. "I nearly forgot. Every System also contains a Store."
"Every world possesses its own currency. Rather than allowing it to become useless once you've earned it, your System allows you to spend it. The Store offers weapons, abilities, armor, equipment, artifacts, consumables, crafting materials, accessories, and countless other useful items appropriate to the world you currently occupy."
Another glowing window appeared beside the Store. Unlike the first, this one resembled an endless collection of empty slots stretching farther than the eye could see.
"Your System also grants access to an Inventory. Think of it as an infinite storage space existing outside normal reality. Nearly every non-living object you obtain may be stored within it. Weapons, armor, treasure, food, medicine, crafting materials, artifacts, equipment, and almost anything else you collect may be safely placed inside."
He smiled proudly. "Time itself does not pass within your Inventory. Food will never spoil, medicine will never expire, weapons will never rust, and everything remains exactly as it was the instant you stored it."
Havoc blinked. "So... it's basically an infinite backpack."
"Precisely," Vael'thrix replied. "However, before your primitive imagination begins inventing loopholes, understand this: living beings cannot be stored. You cannot imprison enemies, hide yourselves, or place your summoned companions inside. They are living beings, not luggage."
Havoc shrugged. "Yeah... figured it'd be too broken otherwise."
Vael'thrix raised both a Weapon Token and a Summon Token into the air. "One final distinction. Neither Weapon Tokens nor Summon Tokens may ever be purchased through the Store. Equipment can be bought. Abilities can be bought. Armor can be bought. Artifacts can be bought. But Weapon Tokens and Summon Tokens..." He smiled. "...must be earned."
Havoc smirked. "So the Store sells everything except allies."
"Exactly," Vael'thrix replied with a satisfied smile. "Even the System understands that allies cannot be bought."
Vael'thrix lowered the Weapon Token and the Summon Token before slowly scanning the seven champions. "There is, however, one final matter regarding Summon Tokens that I should clarify before any of you begin asking unnecessary questions."
Havoc immediately raised his hand. Vael'thrix let out a long, exhausted sigh before rubbing his temple. "...Go ahead."
"You explained how we get allies," Havoc said, "but you never explained what actually happens to them when they're summoned."
Several of the shadowy champions turned toward Havoc. Some appeared mildly curious, others couldn't have cared less, and one simply crossed their arms as though wondering why such a question even mattered.
Vael'thrix nodded. "A reasonable question... for once. When a Summon Token is activated, the System forms a permanent contract between the champion and the summoned ally. From that moment onward, your ally becomes bound to you through the authority of your System. They cannot intentionally betray you, deliberately harm you, or willingly violate a direct command issued through that contract. Their loyalty to their summoner is absolute."
One of the champions gave an approving nod, another quietly chuckled to themselves, while the rest remained silent. Havoc, however, still looked uneasy.
Vael'thrix noticed immediately. "I know what you're thinking, pest, so allow me to answer your next question before you ask it." He folded his hands behind his back before continuing. "No, your allies are not stolen from their original worlds."
That statement immediately drew everyone's attention.
"The System reaches into alternate timelines rather than the original realities. More specifically, it selects individuals whose stories have already reached their conclusion. Every ally you summon has already died within their own timeline. Their world has already mourned them, and their fate has already been written. The System merely offers them something they no longer possessed—a second chance. A new beginning. A future they were originally denied."
Havoc slowly lowered his hand, genuinely surprised. "...That's actually better than what I was expecting."
"I should hope so," Vael'thrix replied calmly. "Even I have standards."
"I'm still not giving you credit."
"I wasn't asking for it."
Havoc raised his hand again. Vael'thrix stared at him for several seconds before letting out another sigh. "...What now?"
"If they've already died," Havoc asked, "what happens after all of this is over? What happens if one of us actually wins the Championship? Do our allies just... disappear?"
For the first time since the explanation began, Vael'thrix answered without sarcasm. "When the Championship concludes, every surviving ally who fought beside the victorious champion will be returned to the exact moment they were taken from. Their deaths will never occur. They will awaken alive within their own world, remembering everything they experienced during this journey. In other words... they receive the second chance at life that fate originally denied them."
He gave a small shrug. "If that eases your conscience, pest."
Havoc looked down at the floor for a long moment before quietly nodding.
"...Good."
For the first time since arriving in this impossible place, his thoughts weren't focused on escaping, getting revenge on Vael'thrix, or simply surviving the tournament. Instead, he found himself wondering who his first ally would be... and what kind of life that person had lost before the System gave them another chance.
Absolutely. Here's the updated version with the dialogue flowing naturally and without unnecessary paragraph breaks, just like you've been asking.
Vael'thrix allowed the conversation to settle before snapping his fingers once more. "Now that we've covered the fundamental mechanics of your Systems, it's time to discuss the feature you will be interacting with more than any other."
A translucent window suddenly materialized before every champion.
Havoc stared at it for a moment before sighing. "...Seriously?"
The glowing screen floated silently in front of him.

Havoc read through the Status Page twice before something immediately caught his attention. "...Hold on." His eyes moved from his Attributes to his Equipment and back again. "...Why are some of my stats higher than they should be?" He looked down at himself, grabbed the collar of his trench coat, then looked back at the screen. "...Wait... are my clothes actually increasing my stats?"
Vael'thrix smiled knowingly. "I was wondering how long it would take one of you to notice."
"So I'm not imagining things?"
"No," Vael'thrix replied. "One final lesson regarding equipment. Nearly every item you obtain throughout your journey possesses the potential to enhance your attributes. Weapons, armor, clothing, accessories, relics, artifacts... if an object contains extraordinary power, your System will recognize it and apply its bonuses directly to your Status Page."
Several champions instinctively looked down at what they were wearing while Vael'thrix continued. "Those bonuses are not exclusive to equipment created by your System. Every world you visit possesses legendary weapons, armor, clothing, relics, and artifacts. Whether they once belonged to a celebrated hero, a forgotten king, or the greatest villain that world has ever known makes no difference. Power recognizes neither good nor evil. If an item possesses power, your System will acknowledge it."
Havoc scratched his chin thoughtfully. "So... if I somehow get my hands on some ridiculously overpowered weapon..."
"...Then your attributes will increase accordingly," Vael'thrix answered. "Provided you are capable of wielding it."
"And if I'm not?"
"Then your System will suppress much of its power. Unlike Weapon Tokens, equipment discovered during your journey will never reject its owner simply because they lack the strength to use it. Instead, your System will drastically reduce the item's bonuses until your body becomes capable of handling more of its true power. As you grow stronger, the equipment's full potential will gradually reveal itself."
One of the shadowed champions nodded. "So even legendary equipment has requirements."
"Everything has requirements," Vael'thrix replied calmly. "Power without the ability to control it is worthless."
He gestured toward Havoc's Status Page. "The clothing you're wearing now is a simple example. It provides only modest bonuses, yet those increases are already reflected within your attributes."
Havoc looked down at his trench coat again before adjusting the collar with a small grin. "...Not bad."
"Oh, but that's not the interesting part," Vael'thrix added with a smile.
Havoc immediately narrowed his eyes. "Why do I suddenly not like where this is going?"
"Because your instincts are finally improving." Vael'thrix slowly walked across the platform overlooking the Coliseum. "Equipment forged by your System is unlike ordinary equipment. It evolves. The more you rely upon a weapon, the more battles your armor survives, and the longer you continue wearing a particular piece of equipment, the stronger it may eventually become."
Havoc blinked and looked back down at his outfit. "...You're telling me this coat can level up?"
"It can," Vael'thrix replied. "Your boots, your gloves, your trousers, your armor, even your weapon. Continue using them long enough and they will evolve alongside you."
Havoc stared at his coat for several moments before a grin slowly spread across his face. "So instead of throwing away my favorite gear every time I find something stronger... I can actually make it stronger?"
"For once," Vael'thrix admitted with a faint smirk, "you've reached the correct conclusion."
Havoc adjusted the collar of his trench coat one last time and nodded to himself.
"...I like that."
Vael'thrix looked over the seven champions before clapping his hands together once. "Now that your Status Pages have been introduced, it is time to discuss how each of you will actually grow stronger."
Several new windows appeared beside the Status Page. Unlike the previous screens, these displayed quest logs, progress bars, and reward icons waiting to be filled.
"The foundation of your growth is Experience," Vael'thrix explained. "Every enemy you defeat, every challenge you overcome, every mystery you uncover, and every fate you alter contributes toward your growth. Once sufficient Experience has been accumulated, your level will increase."
Another champion raised a hand. "Do levels simply increase our attributes?"
"They do far more than that," Vael'thrix replied. "Every level strengthens your body beyond its previous limits. In addition, your System may reward you with Attribute Points, Skill Points, improved abilities, or entirely new functions depending upon your accomplishments. No two Systems progress in exactly the same manner."
Havoc nodded. "Okay... that actually sounds reasonable."
Vael'thrix smiled.
Havoc immediately frowned.
"...Why are you smiling?"
"Because I almost forgot another feature."
Havoc closed his eyes.
"Of course you fucking did."
Ignoring the complaint, Vael'thrix waved his hand and a list of quests appeared before every champion.
"Your System will constantly assign objectives. These are divided into several categories. Main Quests advance your journey and are usually connected to altering the fate of a world. Side Quests offer additional opportunities for growth, rewards, and knowledge. Hidden Quests remain invisible until specific conditions have been fulfilled, and Special Quests are exceedingly rare assignments created by the System itself."
He pointed toward several glowing reward icons beneath one of the quests.
"Completing a quest rewards more than Experience. Depending upon its difficulty, you may receive currency, Attribute Points, Skill Points, equipment, abilities, crafting materials, Weapon Tokens, Summon Tokens, titles, or unique rewards connected specifically to that world."
Havoc raised an eyebrow.
"So basically... do more work, get more stuff."
"A painfully simple summary," Vael'thrix admitted, "but accurate."
The quest window changed once again, revealing several objectives marked with question marks.
"Not every objective will be shown immediately. Some quests possess hidden conditions. Others contain optional objectives that only reveal themselves after certain actions have been taken. Completing those additional objectives often grants rewards far beyond what was originally offered."
"So if I go above and beyond..." Havoc asked.
"...Then your System will acknowledge your efforts," Vael'thrix answered. "Saving additional lives, discovering forgotten secrets, defeating powerful enemies under unusual circumstances, completing objectives within a time limit, or resolving situations creatively may all improve your final rewards."
Havoc crossed his arms.
"And you couldn't have told us that five minutes ago?"
"I could have."
"...You just didn't."
"I enjoy dramatic presentations."
"You enjoy being an annoying asshole."
"That as well."
Several of the shadowed champions quietly laughed while others simply ignored the exchange.
Vael'thrix dismissed the quest window and another section appeared across every Status Page.
"Finally... we arrive at Titles."
One champion tilted their head.
"What are those?"
"Titles are recognition granted by your System. They may be earned through extraordinary accomplishments, repeated actions, impossible victories, embarrassing failures, or by becoming famous... or infamous... within a particular world."
The empty Title section on Havoc's Status Page flickered briefly before returning to normal.
"Some Titles are purely symbolic," Vael'thrix continued. "Others permanently increase your attributes, improve your relationships with certain individuals, unlock hidden opportunities, or grant entirely unique abilities unavailable through any other means."
Havoc immediately pointed toward the empty section.
"Let me guess... you get to name those."
Vael'thrix smiled.
"Not always."
"That's not a comforting answer."
"It wasn't intended to be."
Havoc rubbed both hands down his face.
"I swear to God... you're the most irritating tutorial character I've ever met."
Vael'thrix looked genuinely pleased.
"I shall accept that as a compliment."
He waved his hand one final time, causing the remaining locked sections of every Status Page to blur beyond recognition.
"As you continue growing stronger, your System will unlock additional functions. Some require higher levels. Others require entering specific worlds, completing extraordinary feats, or meeting conditions known only to the System itself."
Havoc looked at the blurred sections before letting out a long sigh.
"So there are still things you haven't told us."
"There are."
"And you're not going to explain them."
"No."
"...I hate you."
"I know."
A satisfied smile crossed Vael'thrix's face as he looked over the seven champions.
"And that concludes your introduction to the Infinite System."
Vael'thrix remained silent for several long moments, allowing the seven champions to believe his explanation had finally come to an end. Then, without warning, a slow smile spread across his face.
"...Oh."
"I almost forgot."
Havoc threw both hands into the air. "Are you fucking serious? How do you keep forgetting all of this?"
Vael'thrix ignored him entirely. "There is one final detail I intentionally withheld from every one of you." His smile became far more unsettling than before. "The real hidden purpose behind this Championship."
Havoc frowned. "Wait... you're telling me everything you've explained so far wasn't the whole story?"
"Of course not," Vael'thrix replied calmly. "Where would the entertainment be if I revealed every surprise from the beginning? Watching all of you slowly discover the truth is infinitely more satisfying."
He slowly walked toward the edge of the platform, overlooking the seven champions. "Everything I have explained until now was merely the public face of the Championship. Traveling across worlds, altering fate, gathering World Energy, strengthening yourselves, and awakening the Throne of Sovereign Ascension... those are simply the rules that allow the game to function."
He stopped walking.
"The true game..."
"...is the wager."
Silence filled the Coliseum.
"My fellow demigods and I did not create this Championship merely because we wished to avoid fighting one another." He glanced toward the six masked figures behind him. "We created it because we desired something far more entertaining."
One of the champions finally spoke. "Then... what exactly is this wager?"
Vael'thrix smiled before slowly raising one hand toward himself.
"The final objective..."
"...is me."
Every champion remained silent.
Then his finger shifted toward Havoc.
"...And my champion."
Every shadowy silhouette immediately turned toward Havoc.
"...Son of a bitch," Havoc muttered.
Vael'thrix's smile only widened. "I have wagered more than any of my colleagues. My divine authority, my accumulated power, my claim to the Throne of Sovereign Ascension, and even my own champion have all been placed upon the table."
Another champion broke the silence. "So... we're actually allowed to work together?"
"You are encouraged to," Vael'thrix answered. "Form alliances. Share inform
Save one another. Betray one another when the time is right. I care very little how you reach me. All that matters is whether you can."
Havoc slowly pointed at himself. "...Let me guess. I'm basically the final boss."
"Precisely."
"...I didn't volunteer for that."
"No," Vael'thrix replied with a satisfied smile. "You lost that privilege the moment I selected you."
Havoc rubbed both hands down his face. "I seriously hate you."
"I know."
Vael'thrix continued. "Should any champion defeat Havoc, the victor will inherit a portion of everything he has earned throughout his journey. His World Energy, his rewards, his equipment, his titles, his abilities, and his growth will become part of your reward. Your patron demigod will also claim a portion of my divine authority."
His smile became almost inhuman.
"But should Havoc defeat one of you..."
"...everything you have earned becomes his."
Nobody spoke.
"The stronger you become before challenging him, the greater the reward he receives for defeating you. Every world you conquer, every ally you recruit, every artifact you discover, every title you earn... all of it becomes another prize waiting for him."
Havoc slowly looked back toward Vael'thrix. "...You're insane."
"I've been called worse."
"No... I don't think you understand." Havoc shook his head in disbelief. "You intentionally made six champions hunt me because you thought it'd be entertaining. You stacked the odds against your own champion, gambled your own future, and accepted the possibility of losing... just because you wanted a challenge?"
"I did."
"What the actual fuck is wrong with you?"
Vael'thrix suddenly burst into laughter. It wasn't the laugh of someone mocking another person. It was the uncontrollable laughter of someone genuinely thrilled by the thought of what was about to happen. His voice echoed throughout the enormous Coliseum until even the other demigods remained silent.
"Oh, Havoc..." he finally said, wiping a tear from his eye. "If victory is guaranteed, where is the thrill? If failure is impossible, where is the satisfaction? I do not desire an easy path to godhood."
His crimson eyes locked onto Havoc's.
"I desire the impossible."
Havoc stood completely speechless.
For the first time since meeting Vael'thrix, he finally understood exactly what stood before him.
Not a tyrant.
Not merely a demigod.
But a psychopath who had willingly gambled everything he possessed simply to satisfy his own twisted sense of excitement.
Vael'thrix spread his arms toward the seven champions one final time, his laughter echoing once more through the Coliseum.
"Now..."
"...entertain me."
Havoc could only stand there, trying to process everything the psychotic bastard had just admitted. His mind raced with questions, anger, and disbelief, but before he could speak another word, one thought refused to leave him.
"What the hell have I gotten myself into?"
