What could our relationship still be?
"Yes, the relationship between you and me."
Herbert smiled softly and said:
"Prison Warden and prisoner? Human and Demon? Paladin and Vampire? These were our past identities and relationships."
Thinking about it that way, their relationship was indeed complex and unique solely based on identity.
As a human, Herbert should have been filled with wariness and disgust toward a Demon like Eliza.
And as a Paladin, Herbert naturally harbored hostility and vigilance toward Vampires.
As Prison Warden, Herbert was also tasked with the duty of educating and guarding prisoners.
Eliza, as a prisoner, a Vampire, a Demon, bore deep-seated hostility towards someone like Herbert.
Extremely dangerous, hard to approach, impossible to communicate with — that was Eliza's image in the eyes of other Prison Wardens.
