UK:GSW Chapter 385 – Shimura Danzo's Final End: Condemned to Eternal Damnation

Shimura Danzo, this guy, was the "Blame King" personally appointed by Masashi Kishimoto, the original creator of Naruto. His initial purpose for existing was actually to give Uchiha Itachi—who for a period of time was criticized by Naruto fans as "Kishimoto's golden boy"—a reasonable and forced justification for exterminating the Uchiha clan.

At first, Kishimoto's portrayal of Uchiha Itachi was that of a strong, cold, and cool villain—a "strong, handsome, and ruthless" archetype that was standard in shounen manga at the time. Many characters had it, and it was unquestionably villainous.

However, because Uchiha Itachi's popularity became too high, the editors intervened to add more backstory and reframe his character. Uchiha Itachi began to be "redeemed" and given an ever-growing list of overpowered abilities. The collapse of Naruto's entire power system arguably began with "Susanoo," the first of which was revealed by Uchiha Itachi.

To make this work, someone had to take the blame. Since the Third Hokage had already been portrayed as a kindly elder and late-life hero, Shimura Danzo was created to fill that role.

To make Danzo's scapegoating reasonable, Kishimoto even had the plot make him responsible for many of Naruto's tragedies, turning him into the series' ultimate scapegoat. He became a staple of the "It's all XXX's fault" meme, alongside Tohsaka Tokiomi from Fate.

Of course, that was just the "original" setup—created for the needs of the plot. When those traits are translated into a living reality, they become more than just a fictional character design.

The complexity of Shimura Danzo as a person then stands out fully.

From Danzo's history, we can see that he wasn't always the "Blame King" of the Hidden Leaf. He became that ugly figure step by step.

At the beginning, Shimura Danzo was a classic hot-blooded youth, vowing to follow his teacher, Tobirama Senju, and together with his close friend Hiruzen Sarutobi become a force to protect the Hidden Leaf, contributing to its greatness.

When Tobirama died and Hiruzen became the Third Hokage, Danzo had a thorn planted in his heart over the Hokage position. The once hot-blooded youth began to change.

At that time, it was only the beginning—he still devoted himself to protecting the Hidden Leaf and founded Root. In those early days, Root truly carried out his original ideals: guarding the village from the shadows, serving as the unseen nourishment for the great tree that was the Hidden Leaf.

Then came the Second Great Ninja War, and Shimura Danzo was crippled.

It is well known that when a person suffers a devastating blow, it often leaves deep scars on the mind and spirit. For a healthy person, becoming disabled is an especially unbearable pain. Many people change drastically because of it; even the most steadfast and optimistic have a sensitive heart beneath the surface.

From then on, Shimura Danzo's personality changed completely—he became more gloomy and extreme, increasingly suspicious and sensitive, and began to hunger for power and other things, much like how eunuchs in history often craved wealth, power, and more.

The "Darkness of the Hidden Leaf" had much the same mindset.

Perhaps Danzo himself sensed the change, but he excused it with "everything is for the Hidden Leaf." And when you tell yourself the same lie often enough, you can even brainwash yourself.

Thus, his methods became more reckless, more crazed and sinister, and more unconcerned with consequences.

Through relentless self-brainwashing, Danzo even built a "fortress of justice" in his mind—convincing himself that everything he did was right, that everyone else was wrong, and that all he did was for the Hidden Leaf.

Yes—murder, arson, harming comrades, persecuting innocents, creating powerful enemies for the village, seizing the Hokage position—everything was "for the Hidden Leaf."

Absurd as it sounds, Shimura Danzo truly believed it, even moving himself to tears over it.

This self-delusion was on full display in the "original" when facing Uchiha Sasuke. Even as he was defeated, he believed he was giving his all to protect the Hidden Leaf, willing to sacrifice himself to defeat its powerful enemies.

How those enemies came to exist? "Don't ask.jpg."

So, simply killing him would be letting him off too easily. He would still die in self-consolation, seeing his end as a noble sacrifice "for the Hidden Leaf."

To make him truly feel pain, one had to shatter his mental fortress—drag out the harshest, most undeniable truth, make him utterly reviled, and ensure his name would be cursed for eternity.

In the main world, because the Third Hokage was still alive, Hiruzen—though deeply saddened and disappointed—still did his utmost to protect the crippled Danzo. The price Hiruzen paid was full retirement from power.

In that matter, the Third Hokage's attitude toward Danzo was exactly like Naruto's feelings toward Sasuke in the original story.

Thus, though people disliked that Danzo lived, they accepted it—after all, compared to the Danzo of World No. 2, the main world's Danzo hadn't committed as many atrocities. Letting him live was still within reason, and he had indeed done much for the Hidden Leaf.

And with his personality, being crippled and forced to live out his days in disgrace was a fate worse than death. Especially after Hiruzen became obsessed with Jiraiya's "artistic works" and spent less time with him—Danzo's life became year after year of misery.

In contrast, the Danzo of World No. 2 had committed every imaginable atrocity. He had to die—and die in a particularly humiliating way to ensure his total disgrace and eternal damnation, especially for his role in the Uchiha clan's massacre.

This was a request made by Minato Namikaze as the main world's envoy—primarily for Uchiha Kei, and secondarily as justice for the Uchiha clan.

Once this attitude was clear, the Hidden Leaf of World No. 2 understood that Danzo's trial had to be severe and extreme—anything less would cause a serious diplomatic incident.

Though the now powerless elders wanted to object—arguing that Danzo, despite his mistakes, had contributed greatly to the village and should be imprisoned rather than executed—Tsunade played her trump card. She revealed the situation in the main world to them, then Senju Hashirama and Senju Tobirama appeared.

The two, manifesting with both spirit and body, sternly rebuked the elders, terrifying them into trembling silence.

They then went to see Danzo—not to comfort him, but to crush his spirit.

Danzo claimed everything he did was for the Hidden Leaf, even citing the First and Second Hokage as his inspiration, claiming to have inherited Tobirama's will.

But upon seeing the two Hokage, after their identities were confirmed with Wood Release and sealing techniques, his attempt to pour out his grievances was met with their furious condemnation. They denied everything he had done, bluntly declaring that his so-called devotion to the village was nothing but a lie to satisfy his own selfish desires.

Danzo refused to admit it, but the two Hokage dismantled his denials with icy words, exposing the naked truth and tearing down his mental fortress. Tobirama, as his teacher, expelled him from the discipleship and stripped him of all honors.

This was more painful to Danzo than death—it broke his will entirely.

Then came the public trial. A dazed Danzo was dragged onto the execution platform, converted from the Chunin Exams arena, before a massive crowd of Leaf citizens. His identity as a former elder and Root's leader was revealed.

First, his past contributions to the village were acknowledged, establishing the foundation of his public image. Then came the list of his crimes.

While the full truth of the Uchiha massacre remained hidden, the fact that he colluded with the rogue ninja Uchiha Itachi to wipe out the clan was made public—enough to cause an uproar.

At that moment, Danzo truly embodied the "Blame King" of the Leaf, as every possible scandal was pinned on him, making him the lightning rod for all hatred.

The glares of fury and loathing made the dazed old man shiver, dread flooding him as he realized what he was about to lose.

Indeed, by the time all his crimes were recited, Danzo had become the Hidden Leaf's ultimate traitor—a symbol of its darkest sins, destined to be reviled for centuries, much like Qin Hui in history.

Even his execution was symbolic—molten bronze was poured over him, forming a kneeling statue to be placed forever on the former site of the Uchiha clan, where people could spit on it and beat it, even making it a tourist attraction.

His deeds would be recorded in history books, taught in schools, his name forever synonymous with treachery.

When the sentence was announced, Danzo completely broke down—crying, snot running, screaming in madness that this was unjust, that he had bled and fought for the Leaf, and that the village couldn't treat him this way.

But it was useless. From law to morality to the condemnation of his elders, he had been utterly rejected, with no hope of redemption.

In the end, amid his anguished screams, Shimura Danzo was eternally sealed within the kneeling bronze statue, placed on the Uchiha clan's former land—condemned to repent and wail forever, his soul trapped and denied any rest.

This was no metaphor—it was literal. Because of chakra's special properties, Minato Namikaze and Uchiha Kei "assisted" during the casting, using techniques to bind his soul within the statue, ensuring eternal, inescapable torment.

Cruel, yes—but exactly what Shimura Danzo deserved.

No one in the Leaf dared speak against it. Even those who felt pity stayed silent, unwilling to risk banishment for defending him.

Uchiha Sasuke, who had witnessed it all, closed his eyes as silent tears fell. After a deep breath, he murmured:

"Father, Mother, clan members… your resentment can ease a little now. One of our greatest enemies has met the end he deserved…"

With that, Sasuke felt no more attachment to World No. 2 and "returned" to the main world—ready to live as the Sasuke of his own world, embracing his future.

Meanwhile, the imprisoned Uchiha Itachi and the darkened Obito learned of Danzo's execution.

Obito was shaken—this was too extreme. In his view, torturing Danzo to death would have been cruel enough, yet the man had been denied even peace in death. What fate, then, awaited him?

A flicker of fear crept into Obito's heart.

Itachi, on the other hand, showed deep regret and pain, then closed his eyes as if resigned—ready to face his own unforgivable fate.
