"I'll contact her first and try to set up a time for us to visit. Other than that, there's nothing else for you to do for the moment. I'm going to expand the factory, connect a few more rooms, buy more robots, and begin large-scale production of the smart combat backpacks."
Amir nodded. Until they obtained the supporting research data, there really was not much he could do.
But there was still one thing he had been keeping around all this time, and now he finally had the time to work on it.
Taking the Kyber crystal and the energy aggregation sphere off the Traveler, Amir headed underground to begin experimenting.
Now that he had high-end equipment, he completely let himself loose.
Well, not completely. After all, he was still on someone else's turf, and blowing a hole in the floor would not be ideal.
When Amir had first familiarized himself with the equipment here, he had already worked out how he wanted to do this, so now he got to work with confidence. After busying himself for an entire day and going through an extremely meticulous round of tuning, he lowered the power of the device in front of him to its minimum setting and gently flipped the switch.
After a brief charge-up, green specks of light appeared across the complex apparatus. Then the glow abruptly erupted, transforming into a beam of light that shot forward. The alloy plate he had prepared ahead of time, wrapped in a protective shield, was struck head-on.
The energy-filled shield held for less than a second before shattering. The alloy plate itself did not even last half a second before a small hole was melted clean through it.
Fortunately, the moment Amir sensed something was off, he cut the power, so all it did was leave a small melted hole in the far wall.
Kahalman probably would not notice, right...?
Whew...
Amir smiled in satisfaction. He had spent an absurd amount of time researching this thing.
And now it was finally finished.
He really was a genius.
Although he had successfully made it, this was still not something easy to popularize. Every world capable of yielding large Kyber crystals had already been tightly occupied by the Empire. Only remote places with poorer resource reserves remained beyond the reach of Imperial mining teams, but even there, stray probe droids still patrolled, scanning for Jedi who might appear.
This was something he would need to discuss with Ahsoka later.
And if that failed, then he would just rob the Empire.
After running several more tests and ruling out accidental variables, Amir eagerly moved the whole setup back onto the Traveler. As for the equipment borrowed from Kahalman, well, no need to ask. Good brothers did not make that distinction. What was yours was mine.
After tinkering around on the ship for a long time, Amir wiped the sweat from his brow. He had already finished replacing the Traveler's main cannon.
At that moment, he felt a strange surge of confidence.
With his superb piloting skills, the Traveler's performance, and now this absurdly powerful energy cannon, he would not even flinch if he ran into a Star Destroyer.
All right, he would still run if necessary, but Gideon's cruiser? He was absolutely not afraid of that anymore. An experimental ship guarded mostly by droids, with only a single squadron of TIE fighters, no longer counted for much in his eyes.
The Traveler could now punch through its deflector shields.
After cleaning everything up, Amir took a shower, sprawled out on the couch in the Traveler's lounge, and placed a holo-call to Din Djarin aboard the Razor Crest.
The line connected quickly.
"Talk," Din said without even looking away from his controls as he piloted the ship.
"No greetings for a friend?" Amir took a sip of his homemade carbonated drink.
Din said nothing and simply let the awkward silence hang.
Amir finally sighed and spoke. "Do you know Bo-Katan Kryze?"
"No."
"Or do you know where the Mandalorian resistance is?"
"No."
"I'll give you a piece of beskar."
"...I can ask around for you. What's your purpose?"
Amir thought for a moment.
Din Djarin's clan had left Mandalore to preserve the old traditions, but they were still a formidable force. And precisely because they had inherited those old ways, the clan's combat strength was probably very high. Amir briefly considered whether he could recruit them directly to deal with Maul.
But in the end, he abandoned the idea.
The operation would definitely be dangerous. Din might be working for him on a paid basis, but he had still helped quite a bit and had acted honorably. This matter had nothing to do with him, and the Darksaber and the right to rule Mandalore probably did not hold that much appeal for him. A few ingots of beskar would likely matter more.
If Amir barged in and used the clan that had raised Din to strike at Crimson Dawn, and they ended up suffering heavy losses, that would be hard to justify.
Besides, the chances of that clan getting involved were slim anyway. At most, one or two people might be tempted.
"I'm looking for them because I have business with them. I want to trick the Mandalorians into joining the resistance organization, the one that cooperated with us last time. If your clan is interested too, then we could—"
"No interest," Din cut him off immediately. "I'll ask for you, but I can't guarantee anything."
"Fine. Just ask. Come find me on Tatooine when you get there and I'll pay you."
"Fine."
After ending the call, Amir fell back into thought.
He had everything planned out, except he had no way of finding Bo-Katan Kryze. The galaxy was simply too big. Finding a single person like that was incredibly difficult, and Amir had no real leads, which was why he had tried his luck through Din Djarin's clan.
Before this, he had also sent Ahsoka a message asking, but she had not replied yet.
After finishing his drink, Amir could no longer sit still. He started up the Traveler and flew out of the station. He wanted to test the power of his new weapon.
He flew around empty space for quite a while before finally spotting a shriveled little asteroid. Its surface was barren yellow, composed entirely of sand and stone, without even an atmosphere.
Amir brought the ship down close to the surface and picked out a mountain.
After installing the new weapon, he had checked it many times. It should not malfunction.
He aimed the Traveler's forward main cannon at the mountain and pressed the firing control.
A beam of green light burst from the front of the Traveler, half a meter wide, continuously pouring out energy.
The moment the beam struck the mountain, it did not scatter in every direction, nor did it punch straight through. Instead, all of its energy was forced into that single point of contact.
The mountain rippled outward from that point in exaggerated concentric shockwaves, and then came a violent explosion.
The mountain, hundreds of meters tall, shattered from the waist up. Enormous rocks and clouds of dust blasted outward in all directions as the peak was broken clean off, the upper half tilting and crashing downward.
