Kendra watched the highway checkpoint from the second floor of an empty printing shop. The barrier generator sat in the middle of the road behind three layers of portable wall, with red cables running from its base into four suppression pylons.
Government soldiers guarded the generator from armored carriers, while a line of civilians waited behind them beside a shuttered petrol station. The civilians wore gray medical collars that had nothing to do with medical care.
"There are thirty-two soldiers, six mounted guns, and an E-rank commander in the central carrier," Mina said after lowering the borrowed binoculars.
Kendra counted the same routes on the paper map Vasa had sent through the headset. If the generator stayed live, Serian's people would keep losing mana to the blockade and the Citadel corridor would become a tunnel full of targets.
