The apartment block rose until its former ground floor stood above Kendra's head. Windows faced the street from the side of the new wall, and every room inside tilted hard enough that furniture slid toward the exterior glass.
She put both palms against the exposed foundation. Ironhide Mantle tightened through her arms and spine as the building continued its slow rotation, carrying six floors of residents toward the Surveyor's gray boundary line.
"I can hold this angle," Kendra said through clenched teeth. "I cannot stop the whole district from pulling it."
Nox stood below the turning block with the route captains. He could see the limit in her stance: one fighter against a building did not become a building's equal because the city needed it.
"Hold the opening, not the weight," he said. "We only need a route wide enough to get the people who revoke out."
