"Dreams get people killed." She replies, and I hear her nails lightly pick at the bed sheets, a nervous habit she's had since she was little.
Her mana trembles around her, uneven and tense.
"My father…" she whispers, and I silence my thoughts to listen carefully. I always listen carefully.
I can't see her, but I can feel every emotion rolling off her mana… grief, rage, longing, ache.
"My father wanted peace so desperately," she continues.
"He wanted warlocks and beastmen to live together. To stop treating each other like predators and prey." Her voice cracks, barely as she continues.
"He believed so strongly that unity was possible, and he made me think so…" She adds, and I exhale before gently patting her back.
"It was a noble dream," I whisper, and she pulls away from me.
"It was a stupid dream," she hisses.
