It's difficult to get all the way to the top, but the view and being so close to the clear sky make it all worth it.
I stand beside one of the enormous arches overlooking Nagari, and I watch the city below. My kingdom… my people.
The streets are busy. Markets are open, and children are playing.
Life continues. And that pulls a certain cord in my heart—An all too familiar grey little cord.
Because life always continues.
Even after tragedy. Even after death… Even after watching a young woman bleed out in the palace gardens while protecting someone she… seemed to have every right to hate.
My fingers curl tighter behind me as I remember the small smile on her face as her eyes dimmed.
