Chapter 11 — A Prehistoric Surprise
Stepping out of the car, Dante looked at the school and said:
— Well, I really can't run away.
Bella looked at her brother's complicated expression and asked:
— What is it?
— Nothing, just some love problems — Dante replied.
Bella looked at her younger brother in shock as they walked down the hallway.
— You have a love life?!
Dante looked at her, offended, and said:
— I'm handsome, rich, and a good guy. Why wouldn't I?
Bella entered an existential crisis upon learning that her little brother had a better love life than she did.
Seeing the lifeless look in her eyes, Dante understood the reason behind her question: she was crushed by the idea that he might be more experienced than her.
"Well, I can't let her know I'm not that experienced…" he thought while looking at her.
They then split up, and Dante went to his classroom. He sat in his seat, and soon he felt someone arriving beside him. He looked and saw Alice smiling at him.
Dante sighed.
"What is… It's impossible for me to act rude with her. Besides being cute, she's my partner."
Alice looked at Dante and introduced herself:
— I'm Alice, nice to meet you. What's your name?
Dante smiled and said:
— Well, nice to meet you too, Dante. Little fairy.
Alice was surprised by the compliment and laughed. They started talking while the teacher hadn't arrived yet.
Dante looked at Alice with a smile:
— So, what does our little fairy like to do?
Just as she was about to answer, the teacher arrived, and Dante and Alice stopped talking. Dante stared at the boring history lecture until the teacher said:
— Well, everyone, today we're going to talk about the miracle of bioengineering. As many of you know, thanks to John Hammond, a great revolutionary who brought dinosaurs back to life, it has been proven that we can bring extinct animals back. Think, students, about the revolutionary uses this technology can offer.
Dante was shocked when he heard that.
"So these are the surprises Rob was talking about…"
"It's quite a surprise… but I still need to confirm if it's really Jurassic Park."
He then looked at the teacher and asked:
— Teacher, why aren't these dinosaurs very well known? It's such a huge discovery.
The teacher looked at Dante and said:
— Excellent question. The reason is that Mr. John Hammond wanted to create a park for everyone to appreciate these incredible creatures. Unfortunately, during the security inspection visit before opening the place, an accident happened that made it impossible for the attraction to open.
Dante rested his head on the desk and thought:
"Well, then it really IS Jurassic Park… and considering I'm at the beginning of Twilight in 2008, that means I already missed a lot of the Jurassic Park plot. But Jurassic World only happens in 2015… so it's still seven years away…"
"If I use my money to become a major shareholder — or even the owner — of the project, I can make a lot of money. And I really want to pet the Indominus Rex, she's so cute… It would be cool to have her as a pet. After all, my mom never let me have a dog, saying they should be free. Now… how a chihuahua is supposed to survive in the wild, I have absolutely no idea."
But then another problem appeared.
"I had a crush on the heroine of Jurassic Park… two, actually: the one from the first movie and the redhead, Claire Dearing. Considering it's 2008, she must be around 23… but how am I going to find her?"
Even with all the problems he already had with Alice and Margaret, he couldn't just let the redhead — his teenage crush — fall into another man's arms when he had a chance.
Then Dante had an idea.
"I know. I'll teleport while thinking about her appearance, just like I did with Bar—
Now, how I'm actually going to approach her and ask her out is the problem. At this age she must be in college, and college is super expensive. I can approach her by saying I'm looking for an assistant to help me with my future projects… That's not a lie, since I really need one."
"Well, with my plan decided, I'll go to the bar today to drink a beer. Even though beer in my dragon body feels like water, it'll be nice to talk with Lili, Marshou, and Ted, and listen to Ted's failed love life once again."
When the class ended, Dante got up and headed toward the exit. Alice looked at him and asked:
— Would you like to have lunch with us?
Dante smiled and said:
— Sorry, I have to take care of my older sister, who is kind of strange. But if you want to go out any day, I'm always available.
Alice then stepped closer and said:
— This is my number. Call me. — she said, handing him a piece of paper.
Dante replied:
— Of course I will, I'd never lose your number, little fairy.
They then separated.
After a strange lunch with Bella staring weirdly at a vampire from the school drama, the classes finally ended.
Dante sat in the car beside Bella while she drove home, thinking about how complicated his love life had become.
