Chapter 148 - Chapter 148: Super Breath

At this moment, the Kraken was completely bewildered.

Why was his opponent flying?

Everything Strucker had told him about the man he was about to face—Nathan—was supposed to be simple. A product of HYDRA's super soldier experiment, enhanced muscles, increased endurance, maybe faster reflexes. Nothing about flying. Nothing about this.

Yet there Nathan was, hovering effortlessly above the battlefield, his eyes glowing faintly with quiet confidence.

The Kraken clenched his jaw, his scaled skin rippling as he released an enraged screech. His gills expanded, and then— a surge of ultrasonic waves burst forth, invisible and deadly, cutting through the air like a tsunami of sound. The air itself seemed to twist and vibrate as the attack tore toward Nathan.

The Sea Monster, codenamed "Siren" by HYDRA, had always relied on his ultrasonic attacks to devastate enemies. Even hardened super soldiers would collapse, clutching their heads in agony.

But Nathan didn't even flinch.

The sound waves rippled through him and vanished like a whisper into the void. His black eyes stayed locked on the creature. Not even a twitch of discomfort.

He charged forward—steady, unstoppable.

The Siren barely had time to comprehend what was happening before Nathan closed the distance. His right fist, wrapped in a faint aura of invisible force, drove forward.

For one fleeting second, the Kraken realized the truth.

Strucker had lied.

That conniving old snake had sent him into a fight he couldn't possibly win.

Nathan wasn't just another experiment. He was something entirely beyond human.

"Strucker… that bastard—"

The Kraken's thought shattered as Nathan's fist connected.

BANG!

The blow landed square in the creature's chest, unleashing a force like a thunderclap. Dust exploded from the impact site, shockwaves rippled outward, and for a moment, even the clouds above seemed to split apart.

The Kraken's massive body lifted off the ground like a ragdoll and hurtled backward through the air. He felt every bone in his body scream in protest as the power rushed through him.

"Nimma!" the creature howled in agony. "What is this strength?! Is this… the Hulk?!"

He didn't even have time to finish the thought before gravity claimed him.

Like a meteor, the Kraken crashed to the ground.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion shook the coastline. Earth and debris scattered in every direction as a crater formed beneath him. The monstrous body twitched violently, scales cracked, and blood oozed from deep wounds.

Nathan descended slowly from the sky, landing beside the crater with perfect balance, his boots pressing softly into the shattered earth.

He looked down at the broken creature gasping for breath.

The Kraken's heart pounded wildly. Fear—real, primal fear—overwhelmed him. For the first time, the self-proclaimed ruler of the deep felt like prey.

The man standing before him didn't radiate anger. He didn't even look triumphant. He was simply calm—coldly calm.

And that calmness terrified the Kraken more than any roar could.

When he had come here, he'd thought Nathan was merely a high-tier soldier—strong, yes, but mortal. He'd fought Hulks, tanks, and bombers. But this? This was something else entirely.

The Kraken remembered clearly how Nathan had stopped a speeding armored vehicle with one hand, not even budging. Now, this same man had flown into the sky and crushed him like a bug.

"This… this isn't right…" the creature muttered, trembling.

"He can fly… He's not human."

Siren's thoughts spiraled. Hatred flared for Strucker—burning and bitter.

He used me. He sent me to die. He never said Nathan could do this. He never said he could fly!

He swallowed hard and spoke, his voice shaking:

"H-how do you have such power? You shouldn't even exist!"

Nathan tilted his head slightly, the faintest hint of amusement crossing his face.

"Existence," he said softly, "isn't always something people like Strucker can control."

The Kraken panicked. "Wait—listen! I didn't come here to kill you! Strucker manipulated me! That snake used me like bait!"

He raised his trembling claws in surrender. "Don't kill me, please! I'll help you! I'll kill Strucker myself!"

His words tumbled out in desperation. "And—and I know things! About HYDRA's other leaders. They're all watching you, Nathan. They're afraid of you! I know where they are! I can help you destroy them!"

Nathan remained silent, his gaze fixed on the trembling monster.

The Kraken continued to ramble, sensing a flicker of mercy. "I swear! I can tell you everything! Every lab, every experiment, every name—just don't kill me!"

Finally, Nathan spoke, his tone calm and cutting.

"Do you really think I don't already know?"

The Kraken froze.

Nathan's eyes seemed to pierce right through him. "You think I wouldn't know where the others are hiding? What they're planning?"

At that moment, the Sea Monster realized—Nathan's intelligence wasn't just physical. He was everywhere.

He could see through lies, read intentions, predict movements. HYDRA's so-called secrecy was a joke to him.

Before the Kraken could stammer out another plea, Nathan raised his hand.

"Please—no!" the creature screamed, trying to crawl backward. But his shattered bones refused to obey. The earlier punch had broken more than his body—it had broken his will.

Nathan didn't strike. Instead, his palm closed gently around the creature's torso.

To the Kraken's surprise, there was no killing blow. Just pressure. Firm, unyielding—but not fatal.

Nathan lifted the Siren off the ground with one hand and took off into the sky.

The wind roared around them as they vanished into the clouds.

The Sea Monster blinked, confused. "You… you're sparing me?"

Nathan didn't respond. His expression remained neutral, his eyes forward.

In truth, he had a reason. The Kraken was not useless. There was potential—scientific potential.

Nathan's mind was already analyzing him: the complex gill structure, the hyper-developed lungs that could produce devastating sonic waves.

If I can understand this anatomy, he thought, I can evolve it.

Superman has his super breath—freezing winds, hurricane gusts born from his lungs.

Nathan wanted that. The ability to manipulate air, pressure, and sound. A new frontier of power.

That was why he didn't kill the creature. Not yet.

The Kraken, however, thought he'd been spared out of mercy. He even dared to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Heh… thank you," he murmured weakly. "You won't regret this…"

Nathan said nothing.

The truth was, the Kraken would regret it. Soon.

Because this mercy wasn't a gift. It was a sentence.

And when the experiments began, the Kraken would wish for death.

Not far from the battleground, hidden atop a ruined observation tower, Hawkeye and Black Widow had witnessed everything.

Their jaws dropped as they watched the battle unfold—the impossible strength, the effortless flight, the sheer dominance Nathan displayed.

Hawkeye broke the silence first. "Holy hell… Who is this guy?!"

He turned to his partner, still struggling to process what he'd seen. "He just tanked a sonic barrage that could drop a Hulk and didn't even blink! And that punch—he sent the Kraken into the earth like a comet!"

The archer shook his head. "That's not a super soldier. That's a walking weapon."

Black Widow didn't answer immediately. Her sharp eyes stayed fixed on the man hovering above the battlefield, the faint sunlight reflecting off his black hair and pale skin.

She'd seen him before.

The flight, the calm demeanor, the sheer destructive precision—everything fit.

Finally, her lips parted. "That's Nathan."

Hawkeye's eyes widened. "Nathan? As in—HYDRA's rogue subject? The one who wiped out an entire division?"

Black Widow nodded slowly. "The same."

Her expression hardened as she watched Nathan disappear into the clouds, carrying the Kraken's limp body with him.

"I didn't expect him to intervene personally," she murmured. "He's growing stronger… much stronger."

Hawkeye glanced at her, still incredulous. "You mean he wasn't already this strong?"

She shook her head. "No. Two years ago, Nathan was powerful—but grounded. Now he's transcended that. The way he moved… the control, the composure—it's like watching a god among men."

For a long while, neither of them spoke. The battlefield lay in ruins, smoke rising where the Kraken had fallen.

A single man had done all of that.

And somewhere in the sky above, that same man was flying away, carrying with him the faint echoes of a monster's scream and the promise of something greater—something more terrifying.
