The Next Day
--------
(Michael POV)
I soon begin waking up from my sleepiness
Which damn it's feel weird
Not bad weird...just different
My body felt lighter somehow, like I'd been carrying a weight I didn't know was there and someone had removed it overnight, and my head was clearer. Even the morning grogginess that clung to me like a stubborn fog had vanished.
Is this what a full magical energy recharge feels like and also did me using magic caused a change in my physique considering things, which does that mean not using magic cause the energy to make non magician more sluggish
hm....
I sat up in bed, flexing my fingers with the stiffness is gone as well as no aches from
yesterday's spellcasting, it had completely disappeared.
Huh.
Magic fatigue recovery is surprisingly efficient,or i guess maybe because I just slept for fourteen hours straight.
I glanced at the window. Sunlight streamed through the curtains, morning light, bright and fresh.
Yep. Definitely slept like the dead
Which, to be fair, I technically was at one point.
A knock on the door interrupted my existential musings.
"Michael?" Grandma's voice, warm and patient. "Are you awake, dear?"
"Yes, Grandma!"
The door opened. She stood there in practical clothes—simple blouse, comfortable skirt, hair tied back—looking every bit the patient magic teacher ready for another day of magical education.
"Good morning," she said with a smile. "How are you feeling?"
"Good!" I hopped out of bed, suddenly full of energy I hadn't felt in either lifetime. "Really good, actually."
"Excellent." She studied me for a moment, eyes sharp despite the gentle expression. "No headache? No fatigue?"
"Nope. I feel great."
"Perfect. That means you've recovered fully from yesterday's training." She gestured toward the door. "Get dressed and come down for breakfast. After you've eaten, we'll continue your lessons."
More magic training.
Yes
This is what I woke up for, even though it caused me to immediately fall asleep
I practically vibrated with excitement. "What are we learning today?"
"Patience," she said with an amused smile. "Which you clearly need to work on. Breakfast first, magic after, now get dressed."
She left, closing the door gently behind her.
I was dressed in record time.
Later, in the garden
Breakfast had been quick,a simple toast, eggs, juice, and a lecture from Mom about not rushing through meals because "digestion is important, Michael."
I'd nodded along dutifully hearing that, and
Now I'm back in the garden, sitting across from Grandma at the small table, with the morning sun warming my skin and birds singing in the trees like this was some kind of fantasy novel opening scene.
Which, to be fair, it kind of was, considering I'm learning magic from my grandma, who's probably famous and my family being made of magicians and knights.
Meanwhile Grandma had a teacup in front of her empty this time—and a few other small objects arranged on the table.
A spoon,a napkin,and a small stone.
"Alright, Michael," she began, folding her hands. "Yesterday you learned two spells: heating and cooling. Both are energy manipulation spells—you're directly affecting the temperature of an object by its energy state."
I nodded, doing my best "attentive student" impression, and also she's not wrong. That's literally what I was doing.
Thermodynamics via magic.
"Today," she continued, "we're going to learn a different category of spell. Something a bit more... practical for everyday use"
She gestured to the objects on the table.
"This is called a Telekinesis spell. Yes this is the spell that your dad did to prank you, though his application is more focused on making the objects float so you could call it a levitation spell but that terms is still not quite right since he had only used the levitating part of telekinesis.Though different magicians call it different things.
My brain latched onto that immediately.
.
She's teaching me that
On day TWO.
I had to physically restrain myself from bouncing in my seat.
"The spell allows you to move small, lightweight objects at a distance," Grandma explained. "Nothing heavy—at your level, we're talking about things like spoons, cups, napkins. Objects that don't require much force to move."
She raised one hand, palm up. Her magic circle appeared—elegant, practiced, spinning smoothly.
The spoon on the table lifted gently into the air.
It hovered for a moment, rotating slowly, then drifted toward her hand. She plucked it from the air casually, as if catching a ball.
"Simple," she said. "But useful,it saves you from getting up to grab things, it's also a good spell for situations where your hands are full. And it's excellent practice for magical control."
She set the spoon back down.
"Now," she said, turning to me, "the key to this spell is intent and focus. You're not touching the object physically, so you need to visualize an invisible extension of yourself reaching out and grasping it."
Invisible extension huh ?.
So basically... projecting force at a distance?
Telekinesis in a way is just applied directional force then,so push, pull, lift.
I can work with that.
"Your magic circle will help structure the energy," Grandma continued. "But you need to maintain a clear mental image of what you want to happen. So pick up the spoon, hold it steady, and make it move it toward you, though each step requires focus."
She gestured me to the spoon. "Go ahead, and try it."
I stared at the spoon.
Okay,so I'll have to use a telekinesis spell
How hard can it be?
I soon raised my hand, mimicking Grandma's gesture, and reached for my magical core, it's warmth i immediately felt, faster than yesterday, more familiar now. I feel the mana or magic energy flowed down my arm, into my palm.
Meanwhile soon a magic circle appeared Infront of my palm, the magic circle i would say is still crude, still wobbly, but i would say better than las time.
Alright,i should somewhat focusing on visualizing it.
I stared at the spoon, imagining an invisible hand extending from my palm, fingers closing around the metal handle.
Come on lift...but nothing happened.
The spoon sat there, motionless.
Come on,i soon tried again pushing more energy into the spell, while maintaining the visualization.
The spoon soon..... wiggled. But barely,it only had just a tiny shift, but it still moved.
Progress!
I concentrated harder, pouring more focus into the image of the phantom hand gripping the spoon.
Up Go UP.
The spoon lifted.
Not smoothly,not elegantly.
It jerked upward like it was being yanked by an invisible fishing line, wobbled violently in midair, and... Immediately shot sideways and clattered onto the grass.
Shit.
"Good!" Grandma said, completely ignoring the fact that I'd just yeeted the spoon across the garden. "You finally were able to move it,that's the easy part, now we work on control."
"I... I didn't mean to throw it," I admitted.
"I know. That's normal." She gestured, and the spoon lifted smoothly from the grass and floated back to the table like it was on rails. "You're using too much force. Think of it like picking up an egg—you don't grab it, you cradle it, gently, and controlled"
Gently...right.
Because apparently my default setting is 'maximum force.'
I took a breath and tried again.
This time, I visualized myself grabbing the spoon as if it's an egg. I carefully reached it out.
My magic circle reappeared.
The spoon meanwhile lifted it wobbled. But stayed in the air.
Yes!
I held it there, focusing on keeping it steady, maintaining the image of gentle, controlled force.
It drifted slightly to the left.
No—stay centered.
I adjusted,the spoon soon corrected.
Then it started rising higher.
Yes!
And immediately the spoon shot upward like team rocket blasting off after being wrecked by ash and his friends once again, arced through the air, and landed in a bush.
I dropped my hand, my magic circle vanishing.
"...I'll get better at this," I said weakly.
Grandma was trying very hard not to laugh.
"You will," she assured me, lips twitching. "Telekinesis is somewhat a bit tricky. It requires a light touch—which is difficult when you're used to pushing energy into objects rather than around them."
Pushing energy around objects.
Like... creating a field? A localized force application?
That's basically generating a directional pressure differential.
My brain immediately started running calculations.
If I could visualize the force vector precisely—magnitude and direction—and apply it evenly across the object's center of mass—
Meanwhile grandma soon told me
"Try again," she encouraged. "This time, don't think about force or energy. Just imagine your hand is longer. Imagine you're reaching out and gently picking up the spoon with your fingers. That's all."
I nodded and raised my hand again.
My magic circle reappeared once more
The spoon lifted, and smoothly this time.
It hovered in the air, steady, barely wobbling.
I moved my hand slightly. The spoon followed, drifting through the air like it was attached to invisible strings.
I'm doing it.
I'm actually doing it.
I guided it toward me. Slowly. Carefully.
It floated across the table and stopped in front of me, hovering at eye level.
Grandma smiled. "Perfect. Now bring it to your hand."
I moved my hand closer. The spoon drifted down gently and settled into my palm.
I stared at it, heart racing.
I did it i move an object with magic!
"Excellent work, Michael." Grandma's voice was warm with pride. "That was much better. You found the right touch."
I looked up at her, grinning so wide my face hurt.
"Can I try again?".
She laughed. "As many times as you like. But pace yourself—telekinesis is somewhat more draining than temperature spells. You'll tire faster"
Worth it.
I set the spoon down and reached for it again with my phantom hand.
This time, it lifted smoothly on the first try.
Yes.
I'm getting the hang of this.
Magic is AWESOME.
Meanwhile...
After I'd successfully managed to float the spoon, napkin, and small stone without launching them into orbit.
Grandma decided it was time to move on to something more... exciting.
"Alright, Michael," she said, clearing the table. "You've done well with utility magic. Now before we start the next lesson, how are you feeling"
" I'm good grandma!." I responded excitedly, since i still feel energised and not tired after using multiple spell compared to yesterday.
"Good, now let's try something a bit more fun." Grandma said smiling while walking she soon gestured for me to stand, and we moved to a more open area of the gardenaway from the furniture, the house, and anything flammable.
"Elemental magic," Grandma announced, clasping her hands together. "Fire, water, ice, wind, lightning, earth—the building blocks of magic and one of the most versatile spell categories in existence."
I tried very hard not to bounce on my toes.
"Now," she continued, "there are many advanced techniques for elemental manipulation, flame shot, water jet,air cutter, earth wall, lightning blast, but those are a bit complicated for a five year old ."
I nodded obediently, even though part of me wanted to argue that I could probably handle more than she thought, but considering my mana is abysmal it's understandable.
And not to mention that's the kind of thinking that gets you extra scrutiny.
Play the part, Michael.
"So we're going to start with the absolute basics," she said. "Creating small flames. Ice crystals.puddle of water. Gust of wind.Tiny sparks. And some other things just enough to prove you understand the principles."
She raised her hand, and a magic circle appeared—more complex than the ones I'd been making, with additional inner rings and symbols I didn't recognize.
A small flame appeared above her palm. Clean. Controlled. About the size of a candle flame.
"Fire," she said simply. "The easiest element for most beginners. It's raw energy made manifest. You're converting magical power directly into heat and light."
The flame vanished.
Another circle appeared. A shard of ice materialized in her hand—perfectly clear, geometric, cold mist drifting off its surface.
"Ice. Slightly harder than fire because you're cooling rather than heating. It requires more precise control and a different mindset."
The ice melted into water, and then grandma had the water moving around
"Water one of the easier kind of element to use,and its abundant, and helpful in a lot of situations" Meanwhile soon the water evaporated and then another magic circle appeared ,and then a gust of wind appeared in Grandma's hand.
" Air/wind magic, also one of the most common elements and easiest, but the least flashiest among the elements, but very powerful"
The magic circle on grandma soon disappeared and then reappeared again with a different pattern.
Meanwhile grandma soon Pointed her hand on the ground and a small earth wall appeared
" Earth magic, is one of the most interesting elements due to it's property, it's mostly uae for defensive purposes"
She then make the earth wall disappear, she soon had her magic circle symbol changed, and immediately a tiny spark danced between her fingers—crackling, bright, gone in an instant.
"Lightning. The hardest of the few we'll be practicing today. It requires speed, precision, and a very clear visualization."
She lowered her hand. "Each element has different requirements, different mental frameworks.though i believe you can handle it.
"We'll start with fire," Grandma said. "It's the most forgiving. Ready?"
"Yes, Grandma!"
She smiled. "Good. Now visualize heat. Not just warmth, but burning heat. Think of a candle flame. Think of a campfire. That bright, dancing energy. Can you picture it?"
I nodded. I could.
I'd seen plenty of fires in both lives. Candles at church. Campfires on camping trips. The Bunsen burners in the lab—
Focus, Michael.
"Good," Grandma said. "Now, reach for your magic. Let it flow to your hand. And as you do, hold that image of fire in your mind and put in your intention, you want it to appear, so will it into existence."
I raised my hand, reaching for my magical core. The warmth responded, flowing down my arm.My magic circle appeared—wobbling as usual, but present.
I thought about fire. About flames. About the warm glow of a candle.
Burn.The energy surged.
A tiny flame flickered to life above my palm.
Small. Unsteady. But there.
I stared at it, barely daring to breathe.
I made fire.
The flame wavered, grew slightly, then sputtered out.
"Excellent!" Grandma clapped her hands together. "First try! That's very good, Michael. Some children take days to produce even a spark."
I looked up at her, grinning. "Can I try again?"
"Of course. But take your time. Don't rush. Feel the magic, guide it gently."
I did.
The flame appeared again—stronger this time, more stable. I held it for five seconds before it flickered out.
Third try: ten seconds.
Fourth try: fifteen seconds, and I managed to make it slightly bigger.
"Wonderful control," Grandma praised.
"You're a natural at this. Now, let's try ice."
Ice was harder.
Not because the magic was more difficult—it felt similar to the cooling spell I'd accidentally overdone yesterday—but because the mindset was different.
Fire was easy. You wanted heat, you got heat. Simple.
Ice required... restraint. Calm. The absence of energy rather than its presence.
"Think of cold," Grandma instructed. "Winter mornings. Frost on windows. The feeling of snow in your hands."
I closed my eyes and tried to remember winter.Cold air. Frozen breath. Icicles hanging from rooftops.
My magic flowed.
The air above my palm shimmered.
A crystal of ice formed—barely the size of my finger, but definitely ice.
It melted almost Immediately after I stop.
"Good!" Grandma said. "Very good. Try again—this time, imagine the cold staying. Holding firm."
I tried again.
The ice crystal lasted longer this time—three seconds before melting.
Again.
Five seconds.
Again.
Ten seconds, and the crystal was bigger.
"Excellent," Grandma said, sounding genuinely impressed. "You're adapting quickly. Now... let's try lightning."
.
Grandma demonstrated again—a magic circle appeared and immediately a tiny spark jumping between her thumb and forefinger, crackling with energy.
"Lightning is fast," she explained. "You can't hold it like fire or ice. It's a burst. A release. Gather your energy, concentrate it into a single point, and then let go."
" Like this" she then immediately begin concentrating the energy into a single point, and then
*CRACK*
A lightning bolt appeared.
Ok Gather and release.Quick and precise.Ok i can do this.I raised my hand.Reached for my magic.Gathered it into my fingertips
Let go.Nothing happened.I tried again.Still nothing.
"Don't force it," Grandma said gently. "Lightning is about timing. Build the energy, then release it all at once. Like what i showed"
I tried once more. Built the energy.Focused it into a single point.and Snap,a tiny spark jumped between my fingers.
Barely visible. Gone in an instant.
But there.
"Yes!" I couldn't help the excited yelp.
Grandma laughed. "Well done! That's very impressive for a first attempt. Lightning is the trickiest of the basic elements. You're doing beautifully, Michael."
I tried again.
Another spark—slightly bigger this time.
Again.
Bigger still.
By the tenth attempt, I could consistently produce small sparks on command, and once again i tried again concentrating energy into the magic circle, and
*bzzzzt-pop*
A small bolt fired out of my hand.
Hell yeah.
"Grandma look i did it!"
Grandma meanwhile smiles seeing that
----
Later after practicing using the other elements.
I stood in the garden, slightly sweaty, definitely tired, but absolutely exhilarated.
Grandma was watching me with obvious pride. "You've done wonderfully today, Michael. Using multiple elemental spells in one session. That's exceptional progress."
"Thank you, Grandma!"
"But," she added, holding up a finger, "that's enough for today. You've used a lot of energy. Any more and you'll exhaust yourself like last time.Magic training needs to be balanced with rest."
I nodded, though part of me wanted to keep going.
Including ideas if i could combine different spells and use science as a way to boost the spells. Not to mention if i-
I stopped myself.
Don't get greedy, Michael.
You learned multiple elemental spells today.
That. And you probably don't want yourself falling asleep immediately, though the difference between on having used magic for the first time and today is noticeable. Considering i haven't fallen asleep like yesterday due to mana exhaust.
I then thought of something
"Can I take a walk?" I asked. "Maybe go to the park?"
Grandma tilted her head. "By yourself?"
"Just to the park nearby. I won't go far."
She considered this, then smiled. "Let's asked your parents."
---------
Inside the house...
Mom was reading in the living room. Dad was doing something in the kitchen-probably hiding from chores,or making something.
Grandma explained that I wanted to go to the park.
"The one just down the street?" Mom asked.
"Yes. He wants to check it out.."
Mom looked at me,considering it. "Alright. But Don't wander off or get close to adult strangers and And be back before sunset."
"I will!"
Dad poked his head out from the kitchen. "And don't use magic at the park."
"I won't!"
"And if anyone asks—"
"Edward," Mom cut in. "He's going to the park, not infiltrating enemy territory."
"I'm just being thorough."
"You're being paranoid."
I slipped out before they could continue.
---------
At the park...
The park near Grandma and Grandpa's house was small but nice—green grass, a few trees, a playground with swings and a slide. Some people were jogging.
A couple of kids were playing, watched by parents on benches.
I walked along the path, hands in my pockets. The morning air was cool. Birds chirped. A dog barked somewhere nearby.
Peaceful.
I then sat on one of the park's bench, swinging my legs and watching the other kids play.
Okay...
Thinking about it...
Is there a chance this world is actually from a light novel or something?
The thought had been nagging at me since I'd discovered magic was real.
I mean, the signs are there.
Urban fantasy setting, supernatural hidden from normal society. Magic exists but isn't public knowledge.
And... okay, let's be honest.
The women here are suspiciously attractive mom, grandma in old photos. Sister Griselda,Gabriel, and other girls.
They're all way too conventionally beautiful for random chance.
That's anime logic, which mean it could be also light novel logic.
Where "Everyone important is hot" logic.
I wasn't complaining—I was just noting it as potential evidence.
So if this IS a light novel world...
Am I an extra? A side character?
Or am I actually relevant to the plot?
I frowned, thinking, but i don't really care about that, since I'm going to enjoy it,though hopefully it isn't one of those where apocalyptic events will happen.
And what other species exist here?
Devils exist—Grandma mentioned Mephisto, and she called him a devil casually. And the way she talk seem to make these devils somewhat not very malicious, though it could be some not all.
But with devils existing Angels probably exist right . Though i don't know how would thwy look either looking like human or some kind of eldritch looking being.
Not to mention what about other species like vampires? Werewolves? Dragons?
Are they extinct, hidden and still around?
In some urban fantasy settings, humans are the only species left.
In others, everything's still alive and just really good at hiding.
I made a mental note to ask Grandma eventually.
Carefully.
In a way that doesn't make me sound like I have meta-knowledge of genre conventions.
I stood up from the bench and started walking along the path, heading toward a quieter section of the park—fewer people, more trees.
Just wanted some space to think.
I soon stopped since there was a girl i spotted.
She has blonde hair, with her being long, reaching past her shoulders. She looked older than me. Maybe nine? She was sitting on the ground near a tree, knees pulled to her chest.
The reason why i was looking at her ?
She was crying. Quietly, but definitely crying.
...
Should I... do something?
Since there's someone crying and considering I'm a human being, I'm concerned for her,but I'm five. But what am I supposed to do? I don't know her.
"Hey, random crying girl, are you okay?" feels inadequate.
I hesitated, but i soon decided to talk to the girl. And then when i was walking towards her the temperature suddenly dropped.
Not gradually. Instantly.
The warm air turned cold—sharp, biting cold that made my breath fog as if there's an industrial cooler was turned on at the park.
What—
I spun around.
And froze.
Standing behind me-no looming behind me—was a thing.
It was big, very big,it looks like it was three meters tall.Made entirely of ice.
Shaped like a woman in a flowing dress, but it has four slender arms, each ending in delicate, sharp and claw like frozen fingers. Its body was smooth and translucent, like sculpted glass.
And its face, looks like something out of resident evil.
it has No nose. No mouth. Just six eyes on the left side—hollow, dark, staring.
The right side of its face was covered in something that looked like rose thorns. Jagged. Sharp. Protruding from the ice like frozen growths.
It stood perfectly still.
Silent.
Watching.
...
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT.
My brain stuttered, crashed, and rebooted in panic mode.
WHERE THE HELL DID IT COME FROM.
I didn't move. Couldn't move. My legs had locked up immediately seeing that, every survival instinct screaming FREEZE, DON'T RUN, DON'T MAKE SUDDEN MOVEMENTS,, while another are telling me to FUCKING RUN, SCREAM, ATTACK IT.
The thing meanwhile didn't move.
Its six eyes empty, void-like weren't looking at me.
They were looking past me.
At the girl.
Oh.
Oh no.
I slowly—very slowly—turned my head to look at the crying girl, then back at the ice creature.
It must be connected to her.
Isn't it? So is this some kind of spirit? Manifestation? Guardian?
I glanced around the park.
A man jogged past on the path—completely oblivious, headphones in, not even glancing toward the giant ice monster standing ten feet away.
A mother pushed a stroller nearby—didn't react, didn't slow down, didn't scream.
They can't see it.
I'm the only one who can see it.
My heart pounded.
Okay.
Okay, Michael, think.
Supernatural entity. Invisible to normal people. Connected to a crying child.
This is either:
A) A protective spirit
B) A curse
C) Something WAY above my pay grade ( Wait nevermind i don't get payed at all)
The ice woman—creature—thing—still hadn't moved. It just stood there, towering and silent, its hollow eyes fixed on the girl.
Not threatening.
Just... watching.
Waiting?
I swallowed hard and looked back at the crying girl.
She hadn't noticed me. Hadn't noticed the creature either.
Can she not see it?
Or is she so used to it she doesn't react anymore?
I took a breath.
Okay.
Options.
Option 1: Walk away, and pretend I didn't see anything. Go home. Tell Grandma.
Option 2: Try to help the girl and hope the ice monster doesn't decide I'm a threat.
Option 3: Run screaming.
The first option would be the smart thing, but considering things, the girl could walk away from the place, while heading to grandma and grandpa house.
I glanced at the creature or thing again.
Still motionless,it was till staring at the girl with those six eyes.
It's not hostile i think.... at least... not yet.
But if I approach the girl...
Will it attack?
Defend her?
Ignore me?
My hands were shaking.
I'm five years old.
I just learned magic yesterday.
But i am CLEARLY NOT equipped for this.
But the girl was still crying.
And the ice creature was still watching her.
And I was apparently the only person in this entire park who could see that something deeply weird was happening. Since the adults who are walking by didn't notice or cares towards me looking at air.
Dammit. Meanwhile i soon choose my option.
I took a step forward, heading towards the girl.
The creature's eyes shifted, and immediately lock All six of its eyes onto me.
Fuck!!!
I froze mid-step.
Okay.
It sees me.
It DEFINITELY sees me.
My breath came faster, fogging in the sudden cold.
Don't run.
Don't panic.
Just... just stay calm.
The ice woman tilted its head.
Oh fuck!!!
The ice woman meanwhile slowly, somewhat moving,ir looks like it was curious.
Oh God.
It's sentient.
It's not just a mindless construct.
I forced myself to take another breath.
Okay, Michael. Calm down.
I looked at the crying girl one more time.
Then back at the ice creature.
Please don't kill me.
And I took another step forward.
Nearby a butterfly flaps it wings going to a different flower batch.
(Chapter end)
