Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 "I hope this doesn't go wrong."

----Hernesto's POV----

"Grandpa, that's not necessary..."

"No, the guards you put in place didn't do their job. Something like this is necessary."

Ahhh... What a problem.

Because Lukas and I caused all that trouble to complete the mission, now my grandfather wants to have those guards fired. I didn't think something like this would happen, but thinking about it calmly, it's difficult to stop.

In front of us was the guild leader, a middle-aged man with long black hair who was sweating as if he were standing in the rain. Since my grandfather is the guild's largest investor, his word carries more weight than anyone else's.

"S-sir, we'll do everything we can to fix this... There's no need to fire those guards."

"Those guards were B-rank adventurers, and two children escaped right in front of them. There's no need to keep such mediocre people."

Although I can understand a little of what my grandfather is saying, it still seems unnecessary to fire those guys. What makes the situation worse is that they are both brothers of the guild leader, so it puts the leader's position at greater risk.

As Grandpa and the man continued to argue, I saw Lukas out of the corner of my eye, being dragged away by his mother. I still remember how distressed his mother was when she arrived. One of our servants notified her about Lukas' condition, and she appeared instantly at the guild hospital.

I still have the image of her pushing me away etched in my mind.

"I have to explain the situation to him."

With those words, I left my grandfather and ran to find Lukas and his mother. When I went outside, I didn't see either of them nearby, so I had to go back inside.

"Agh!"

When I tried to go back in, I bumped into the old man, who was on his way out.

"Ah, there you are. Let's go, I'm done here."

"Oh, yes..."

With nothing else to do, we went to our mansion, where they were already waiting for us.

"Ah, Father... Did something bad happen?"

My mother greeted us at the entrance. She quickly noticed that my grandfather looked angry.

"There were problems,"

he said, taking off his coat and giving it to one of the maids.

I, on the other hand, went straight to my room. When Lukas completed the mission, a notification appeared in front of me that said:

[Mission: Help a friend!]

[Mission complete, receiving reward...]

[REWARD: 10 skill points]

At first, I didn't understand why I was given a mission and an instant reward, but when I asked Anaphaeba, she said.

[You have to make a profit from everything!]

Although she was right, giving me missions that are completed instantly seemed a bit like cheating to me. Even more so considering that Lukas only gets half of what I usually get... Oh well, whatever, Lukas earned it.

With nothing else to do, I decided to go to sleep. This time, my mental exhaustion was greater than my physical exhaustion, so I fell asleep in an instant.

In the morning, with nothing to do, I went to look for Lukas.

-Knock, knock, knock.

"Taren! Come out already!"

With each increase in my stats, it takes me less time to get to Lukas's house.

20 points in agility seemed low to me, but I'm starting to realize that every 10 points makes a significant difference. Even so, all this time I never knew what Qi was. At first, I wanted to ask Lukas, since he used to read about it, but I ended up rejecting that idea when I remembered how much he used to talk every time I asked him about his sleeves...

"Here I am!"

While I was lost in my thoughts, Lukas came out of his house. At first glance, Lukas didn't look strange, so I'm sure he just got a scolding and that was it. It's hard to believe that an adventurer's son would be punished for that. Wait... Now that I look closely, isn't his skin a little pinker...?

"Hey Hernesto, doesn't your family worry if we go to another guild?"

"Again with that. Do you have another mission?"

"No, but if you don't have a problem with it, follow me."

Hmmmm... It's not the first time this guy has acted like this. Whenever he acts mysterious, it's because I'll have a lot to do. At least I have to give him credit for one thing: things usually turn out as he predicted, or at least they don't deviate too much from the original plan.

"Hmmm... Isn't this your father's guild?"

"Yes, I've been here many times with him."

A few meters away from us was the door to the "Brothers of the Shadows" guild. The name was striking, like everything else. But there was a reason for that. This guild was mainly dedicated to gathering information about unknown closed and open dungeons. Its main members were masters of surveillance and silence. This was in stark contrast to Lukas's father, who was a large, robust man who attracted attention at all times.

As soon as we entered, a woman called out to us from behind a table. She appeared to be the receptionist, so we approached her.

"Oh, little Taren. What are you doing here?"

"Hello, Aunt Lina. Can you give me missions?"

"Again with that? Your father told me repeatedly to let your mother know about this."

"N-no! Please. Even if it's a small one."

So this isn't the first time he's done this, huh? Well, if we follow the pattern so far, he'll do something to convince her... Now that I think about it, isn't she too cute? Since we arrived in this world, I've done nothing but meet beautiful people. This time, the receptionist had sky-blue hair and breasts that clearly attracted attention. I can't blame it on hair dye either, because there's no hair dye here!

I left Taren and the receptionist talking while I went to check a board with several papers pinned to it.

From their appearance alone, I could tell they were missions. I've played several RPGs that use this pattern. One that said {Collect rainbow centipede hearts} quickly caught my attention. Now that I think about it, when I went to look for Lukas, I found him next to one of these creatures. They have an E rank, so there aren't usually many problems when hunting them.

Of course, it was difficult for Lukas because he wasn't 100% physically. I still wonder why he didn't use magic. He had been bragging for a whole month that he could light a flame in his hand, but then he suddenly stopped doing it.

"Hey, I got something."

When I turned around, I could see Lukas running towards me and behind him the receptionist with a smile from ear to ear and lots of silver coins on the table. Did she buy it...?

"They let me take any mission, so I have to choose one."

"This one, choose this one."

I quickly tore the paper off the wall and showed it to Lukas. He seemed to like it, as he smiled when he saw it and quickly went to show it to her. Since the receptionist was talking about "buying a dress she saw in a store," she approved it without checking it. We had to run out of there before she realized her mistake.

"All right, let's go to the forest to find these bugs!"

Lukas said, jumping up and down. I just followed him, but not before stopping by a weapon shop to get us something.

Obviously, I had to pay for everything myself, which was starting to feel a little exploitative. Lukas bought a small wand and I bought a dagger. With nothing else to do, we went straight to the forest, more than ready to complete the mission.
