Lucian kept the bone chip on the chair through the night and was irritated by its ordinariness.
He dozed uneasily in the hours before first bell, waking to the same question. Take the run and find what sat behind Derrin. Refuse and hold onto the clean status of Sull's line. Hesitate and turn an absence into an answer. There were costs to each decision. He washed and dressed and tucked the chip into his coat long enough to talk himself out of calling it refuse.
Cael spoke while he locked the room.
"If you go, you open a channel you do not control."If I stay, I'm furniture on someone else's inventory list," Lucian muttered. "Derrin wasn't wrong about that."
"He wasn't wrong about the bait, either."
Lucian headed for the yards, regardless.
