Sumit is going to his grandfathers house almost a decade later. It's on his cousin's wedding ceremony. He grew up on the city and hadn't staying here much over the years. After so much years, he is back to the village once again. This time not only his cousin but one of his friends in the village is also getting married. For this he is going there ahead of the marriage date. He is very excited to be back here after a long time.
His village was a little far from the city. After train station he need to travel by a bus for a hour and then switch to a rickshaw. Then after 10-15 min he will reach his home. That was a place far from the city and a rural place surrounding framland, many kind of tall trees and a river near the village. The village looked like it came straight out from a fairytale story.
When Sumit came out of the train he saw his cousin Rohit and his friend Fahim. Sumit was a little stunned seeing them as he did not tell them about his journey. Rohit and Fahim hugged him and smiled smugly after seeing Sumits stunned expression. Sumit was the one who wanted to give them surprise but he is the one who became surprised. By the time they came home everyone knew about his return. Everyone was happy to see him after a long time.
That day Sumit was busy talking to everyone and his childhood friends came to greet him. They talk for a long time and made plans for the next couple of days.
Next few days they all went around for sightseeing. Few days later his friend Fahim's wedding arrived. The wedding ceremony ended late at night. Fahim's house was in a little far from Sumit's house in a nearby village. It was nearly midnight when the ceremony ended. Most guests were going back and Sumit also bid fairwell to go back to his house. There was two ways to his home. Most people takes the former road and that was a long way and took a long time to his home. The shorter path was by the riverside but during the night most people avoid using that path. Sumit thought if he took the riverside path he could go home faster. He didn't care why other villagers avoided using that pathway during night time. That time he wasn't aware of the fact that the villagers rarely used that path even in daytime.
That walkway was near the river. People could see the river very clearly from the road. When Sumit was nearing the river he saw many people gathering near the riverbank. From the look of it, this was a bridegrooms party. They were going to the brides home. He was a little stunned by that as most weddings would finish by midnight but those people did not even reach the brides home by now. He thought the brides home might be nearby.
As he stop paying his attention to them and start walking his way home, he suddenly heared peoples scream for help and womens crying. He stopped walking and looked their way. The sight made him stunned for a moment. After coming to his senses he started running their way. As he got closer he saw the groom and few people fell in the river and the river current was very strong. At that time he didn't notice the anomaly of the situation at all. He ran and reach those people. As he was trying to help those drowning people. He saw the strong river current taking those people farther away from the shore. He saw someone a little farther from the riverbank, as he started going in the river and reached him Sumit saw that person was not carried by the current. He stayed at the same place as he called for help and looked at Sumit. Looking at his eyes Sumit felt he has to save that guy at any cost. Sumit was standing in a shallow water, just as Sumit about to go the deeper in the water he heard someone calling his name from a very far. Just as he was about to look toward the voice the guy in front of him urged Sumit to rescue him. As Sumit was thinking about rescuing him he was hit by a stone. The pain sobered him up and he realised where he was. As his mind cleared up he looked at the guy a little farther away from him and he was scared out of his wit. The person in front of him looked like a normal human before but now his hole body was rotten. His skin was coming off and in some places on his body his white bone was showing clearly though he was inside the water. Sumit suddenly looked back and saw all the people looked just like him, their hole body was rotten, skin falling off, mussels fallen and white bone showing on moonlight.
Sumit felt a cill all over his body. He wanted to ask what was happening, who were those people? Where did they go? But he could not utter a sound. At this moment his cousin came running with some men from their village. They rescued Sumit and brought him home. He was told to take a salt bath by his grandmother. After bath he was told to go to sleep and they will talk about it the next day.
Sumit was very confused about the hole situation. He did not believe ghost and those supernatural things. But todays situation was very strange and he could not find logic in this. Everything felt weirdly disturbing. He didn't think this was a illusion or an effect of alcohol as he didn't drink at all. He stopped thinking and tried to sleep. In his dream he saw those people crying for help. They were looking at him strangely. He could not sleep well that night.
