Chapter 138 - Ch 138: Vali

Preparing myself mentally, I apologized to Rias and Akeno in my heart while gently pushing Xenovia down onto the mat of the equipment room.

Click.

The door opened.

"Ise?"

The voice froze me in place like a thunderbolt.

Standing in the doorway was Rias, her crimson hair flickering under the light, her body surrounded by a thin veil of demonic power. She was smiling—but it was the kind of smile that belonged to a predator who'd just cornered its prey.

"Ara ara," came another voice. Akeno stepped in behind her, wearing her usual elegant smile, but this time her aura was like black lightning dancing at the edges of her hair. "That's unfair, Xenovia-chan. We'd agreed, hadn't we? That Ise wasn't allowed to have such a large harem yet."

Even before I could open my mouth, another voice piped up.

"Sob… Ise-san… you're mean… E-even I said it…"

Asia was peeking from behind Rias, hands clenched at her chest, cheeks flushed, eyes shiny. Her words trembled between hurt and jealousy.

"…No negligence. No opportunities to attack," muttered Koneko in her flat, monotone voice. She was standing just behind Akeno, one eye lazily open, but her tiny hands balled into fists.

This was bad. This was really bad.

"What's wrong, Ise? Now, let's make kids," Xenovia said brightly, completely oblivious to the atmosphere, as if she hadn't noticed the four sets of murderous eyes staring at us.

Heeeeeey! Read the room, Xenovia!

The moment the word "kids" left her mouth, the girls' expressions changed in unison—Rias's aura flared hotter, Akeno's smile sharpened like a blade, Asia's face went beet red, and Koneko actually raised an eyebrow.

Before I could explain, I felt two strong hands clamp down on my arms—Rias on my right, Akeno on my left.

"Wait, Buchou! There's a reason for this!" I yelped, trying to pull back, but their grip was like iron.

"I know." Rias's voice was calm but her eyes glowed. "It's my mistake. My fault for taking my eyes off you, who has an excess of sexual desire, even for a moment. But tell me, Ise—what do you think making kids means?"

She smiled sweetly, like a queen interrogating a prisoner.

Next to her, Akeno tilted her head, still smiling. "Yes, Ise. I'd like to hear about a man's heart. What circumstances would lead a conversation to… children?" Her aura crackled.

I swallowed hard. My feet left the ground suddenly.

"…Taking the suspect," said Koneko, deadpan. She had slipped under me somehow, lifting my legs with terrifying strength, and was now dragging me toward the door like a tiny cat-shaped executioner.

"Koneko-chan! What are you planning to do to me!?" I shouted. Looking closer, I realized I was being carried—half-dragged, half-lifted—by all of them.

Meanwhile, Xenovia clasped her hands, her face shining with determination. "Yes. I see. First I have to win against Buchou, Vice-Buchou, and Asia. This is a very difficult task. However, the more rivals there are, the more I burn."

Heeeeeeeey! Why are you hyping yourself up all alone!?

Ever since before, Xenovia had been running her mouth about strange things, but—no, I'd responded too. This was partly my fault.

"Ise," Xenovia called over the commotion. "If there's a chance, then I want to make children with you. Remember that well. Prepare yourself."

Fuckkkkkk. I was dragged toward the pool by my furious king and queen.

Like that, Xenovia's boldness had lit another fuse, creating even more friction in the club.

Even if I said so myself, I knew my spirit couldn't and wouldn't completely refuse her.

While leaving the school building, the afternoon sun spilling gold across the courtyard, a glint of silver caught my eye at the gates.

"…"

For a heartbeat I thought I was imagining it—a scene from a movie framed by the school's archway.

A boy stood there. No—a bishounen, the kind who looked like he'd stepped out of a painting. Silver hair, but darker than Grayfia's; strands that shifted between moonlight and steel with each movement. His uniform fit like it had been tailored, his posture casual yet predatory.

And then my stomach sank.

Vali.

The boy I'd once, in the heat of a fight, blurted "I like you" to.

The White Dragon Emperor.

He tilted his head slightly, eyes scanning the school behind me. "Hey. It's a good school," he said, his voice calm but threaded with something that felt like amusement.

I didn't stop. Didn't even look his way. My steps quickened, the gravel crunching under my shoes.

"Hey. I'm talking to you."

I clicked my tongue under my breath. "Tch. He saw me."

"Of course I saw you. Are you an idiot? You're walking right in front of my eyes."

I exhaled through my nose, finally meeting his gaze. Silver-blue eyes locked with mine—sharp, bright, measuring. The aura around him was suffocating and exhilarating all at once.

"I am Vali," he said simply, spreading his hands as though presenting himself. "The Hakuryuukou—the Vanishing Dragon. This is the second time we've met here, huh, Welsh Dragon… Sekiryuutei. Hyoudou Issei."

The way he said my name was like a challenge.

I let a small smirk play at the corner of my mouth. "Yes, I'm Hyoudou Issei. Nice to meet you, Vali. Hope you'll stick around." My tone was brisk, almost teasing. "And see you."

I pivoted, stepping past him, my stride unbroken.

His brows knit, a flash of surprise crossing his face. "What the—hey, don't just go!"
