Chapter 118 - Chapter 118: I Am a Cat, a Happy Black Cat

What did Felicia Hardy do in Eastern Europe?

The answer was, Peter had no clue.

According to Jarvis, no priceless artworks were stolen, nor did anyone named Black Cat appear. She hadn't even been active last night—Felicia had returned to New York yesterday.

So, what did Black Cat do in Eastern Europe?

A search for Black Cat would reveal that a Spirit Cat did indeed exist in this world. At the turn of the last century, she was a famous phantom thief active in New York, but she had disappeared seven or eight years ago

"Are you sure there's nothing suspicious, Jarvis?"

[I have connected to all available surveillance that the Avengers can access and confirmed that no subject meeting the description has appeared.]

Peter had merely said that, based on his "spider-sense," something might happen tonight, but he couldn't specify what. He couldn't exactly describe the opponent's costume just based on a spider-sense, could he?

I shouldn't have kept the recording on when I went to another Earth; now it's hard to make up an excuse! Peter thought helplessly, when Jarvis promptly delivered the information Peter was looking for.

[Abnormal behavior detected, matching description requirements.]

High-definition photos transmitted from a distant Stark Industries surveillance satellite showed a silver-haired woman in a black bodysuit appearing on New York's skyscrapers and moving rapidly. Judging by her direction of movement, the building with the most valuable assets on her path was... Oscorp Tower?

"You really need to self-reflect, Norman. Ask yourself why it's always you."

On the other side, Black Cat leaped across the gap between New York skyscrapers, reaching the vicinity of Oscorp Tower. She looked left and right. From this building to Oscorp Tower across the way, the straight-line distance was about fifty to sixty meters. She retreated to the other side of the rooftop, turned, took a deep breath, then ran at full speed and leaped.

Extraordinary physical capabilities granted her superhuman jumping power, but even so, Black Cat still couldn't jump directly to the required position. She landed on the outer wall of Oscorp Tower, sliding down a dozen meters on the concrete wall with her specialized gloves before stopping. Then she took out her grappling hook gun, aimed, fired, and pulled herself up.

If only this crappy gun's hook was longer, then I wouldn't have to do these extreme jumps.

Muttering under her breath about the outdated gear left by the older generation, Black Cat extended her hand, using the sharp claws on her glove to scratch a small hole in Oscorp's glass. Then she reached in, opened the window, and flipped inside.

"Phew, that was quite simple."

"For a cosplay enthusiast, yes." Spider-Man effortlessly lowered himself upside down on a web, looking at Black Cat who had just entered the building, then posed a profound question: "I just saw you jump dozens of meters. Were you bitten by a radioactive cat?"

Black Cat's costume wasn't merely a figure-hugging suit like in the comics. Or rather, since Peter had been reborn into this world, he hadn't seen anyone besides himself who genuinely wore only a tight suit to fight. Her costume was more like a lightweight version of some Bale-era Batman armor, but even without being skin-tight, it still managed to accentuate Black Cat's shapely figure.

She placed her hands on her hips, flicked a strand of silver hair from her face, and couldn't help but laugh.

"I've heard of you. Are you always this annoying?"

"In fact, most people like me." Spider-Man, who had flipped in through the window, casually closed the window with the hole in it: "Only criminals and super-criminals dislike me. Do you dislike me?"

"That depends."

Black Cat smiled. Before Peter could say, "I agree," his spider-sense blared. Then a flash of light appeared, bright enough to blind anyone. Black Cat, however, turned and ran, immediately entering the corridor of Oscorp Tower. Her target seemed very clear; she went straight to a lab door, then took out a specialized key card, swiping it on the electronic lock. With a series of ominous-looking sparks, Black Cat opened the reinforced door, then immediately closed it.

Based on what she knew, this door was strong enough to withstand a full-power hit from the Hulk (a second hit was another story). Even if Spider-Man pursued her, he wouldn't be able to open the door quickly.

Black Cat walked to the control panel and turned on the system. As expected, it required authorization, so she took out a transparent print from her belt and placed it on the verification device. It contained someone's palm print. As the scan completed, the system automatically opened, the surrounding lights came on, and then one metallic door after another slowly rose.

"Is this it...?"

Black Cat watched the metal doors slowly rise, then suddenly jumped at a voice beside her: "What's this?"

Startled by the voice, Black Cat instinctively performed a roundhouse kick, but her leg was directly blocked by Spider-Man's raised arm. Peter was quite surprised by the power of that kick; it was definitely not a move a normal human could make. Combined with her earlier jump, it gave him a bold idea.

"You weren't actually bitten by a radioactive cat, were you?"

"How did you get in? I didn't even see you."

Should I tell her that her flashbang wasn't as strong as my electricity, and that I can actually turn invisible? Peter internally grumbled, simply smiling: "Who knows? Maybe Oscorp didn't clean well and left some spiderwebs around? Anyway, what are you looking for?"

"I'm looking for..."

Before Black Cat could finish speaking, the surrounding lights suddenly turned red, and Peter's spider-sense blared severely: "I'm not sure what's happening, but we'd better get out of here..."

[Warning, illegal activity detected.]

"Right now?"

Black Cat looked around and saw that the door they came through was now sealed by a thick metal gate. As she searched for another exit, the system suddenly turned green again.

[Authorized person Spider-Man detected. Alert cleared.]

At this moment, not just Black Cat, but Peter himself was stunned. He watched Black Cat turn to him in disbelief: "You have the highest authorization for Oscorp Technologies?"

"I have the highest authorization for Oscorp Technologies?" Peter repeated Black Cat's words, then looked around in confusion: "How did I not know about this?"
