With Gorgon's collapse, Shadowland finally began to dissipate. As it turned out, Set absorbing a vast amount of Darkforce Dimension energy was of absolutely no use. After being separated from Gorgon's body by K'un-Lun's Iron Fist power, he was blasted out of Gorgon's physical form by a single basic Kamar-Taj skill and swept away in one go.
In fact, because his true self was not in Earth-616, his entire being was sent flying away, completely rolling out of Earth-616 once more.
However, after Set was driven away and the whole Shadowland affair concluded rather anticlimactically and comically, Peter found himself concerned about another matter. Set had said that he had finally found this universe. In other words, had he been searching for this universe all along, planning to return?
Hmm... if Peter remembered correctly, hadn't he been driven away by Atum the Godslayer? Why was he still thinking about returning?
Peter kept this matter in mind and then turned his thoughts to other things. He walked over to Ghost Rider, tapping the guy's skeletal head with his finger. After a few seconds, flames reignited on Ghost Rider's skull, and only then did Ghost Rider scramble to his feet.
"Ah, what happened?"
Getting up, Ghost Rider had absolutely no idea what had just transpired. Peter quickly explained the situation to him. Ghost Rider looked at Peter, utterly bewildered. "So you're saying that guy was actually a weakling? As long as you don't touch him, he poses no threat, and only using the Penance Stare on him would instantly kill him?"
"Uh, pretty much."
And so, Johnny shifted back into his human form with a look of pure confusion. "Then what did I come here for?"
"I don't know either... Wait, how did you get here?"
"There's this fat guy, the fat guy who appeared on TV before... Fisk. He somehow got his hands on a summoning scroll given by Mephisto and summoned me here..."
Johnny realized what was going on as he spoke to this point. "Could it be that Mephisto was planning to establish contact with that Set guy?"
"Most likely. Sigh, by the way... Mr. Moon Knight? How did you end up running over here?"
Everyone else's presence was somewhat understandable, but the appearance of Ghost Rider and Moon Knight in Hell's Kitchen seemed incredibly random. Marc, as Moon Knight, walked over and told Peter the cause and effect. "Someone gave Steven a phone call, saying that someone in Hell's Kitchen needed help. Steven... well, he's a bit soft-hearted, so he came over."
Someone had told Moon Knight that there was someone here who needed help...
Peter and Johnny locked eyes, and then Peter said with a bit of deliberation, "I reckon Mephisto did that too."
"I think so too. That piece of work definitely has nothing good up his sleeve. It must have something to do with whatever he was trying to set up when he came to our world last time. What did he do last time again?"
Faced with this question, Peter shared the intel he had obtained from Strange. "Mephisto bought a whole bunch of, uh... Roxxon Energy Corporation stock."
Johnny fell into deep confusion, looking at Peter with an uncomprehending gaze, while Peter shrugged helplessly. This was the absolute truth; there was nothing he could do if Johnny didn't believe it.
Right at that moment, a sudden gunshot startled them. The group hurriedly looked over and saw the Punisher, Frank, stepping into the crowd. Holding a pistol in his hand, he aimed it right at Gorgon's head and blew his brains out while the guy was still in a concussed state.
Regardless of whether Gorgon had been dead before, he was definitely thoroughly dead now.
The one who became furious at this action was Daredevil.
"What are you doing, Frank?!"
"What's wrong? Do you guys still need this guy for something? From what I can see, this whole thing is pretty much wrapped up, right? Keeping this piece of trash around serves no purpose, and there's no need for any trial. Just put a bullet in him and be done with it."
"This guy is a Hydra operative. If we captured him alive, we might have been able to interrogate him and find out..."
"Shut up, Big Red. You saw what kind of scumbag this guy was. I don't think we could ever beat any useful information out of a bastard like him." The Punisher casually pointed at the other two. "If you really want to interrogate someone, you might as well ask them. Though I think that's unnecessary too. Just execute them all together to save the trouble."
Following that, Daredevil and the Punisher started arguing again. Watching the dispute over there, Peter intended to slip away. However, his Spider-Sense tingled. He whipped his head around as Strange opened a portal and stepped through.
"Ah, excellent. You're all here."
Every single universe hovered within a vast expanse of abstract concepts. Different dimensions and universes stood erect inside a patch of chaos and nothingness that defied direct description. It was nearly impossible for any living creature to maintain their sense of self and independence within it; the moment they stepped inside, they would turn into the same abstract streams of information.
Yet, there would always be some existences that far surpassed the norm.
A giant serpent coiled outside the universes, its colossal body wrapping around one universe after another. It devoured one universe after another, but this did not hinder its longing to return—to return to the "Prime Universe," the single most powerful universe since the birth of the multiverse.
And it had finally found the coordinates to that world.
Nine serpent heads lifted simultaneously. Set realized he had guests. Soon enough, two devils appeared in the space above Set. Mephisto, bringing along Belasco for whom nothing had been going right lately, arrived at this location. He then bowed respectfully and introduced himself.
"Exalted Father of All Snakes, permit me, Mephistopheles, to pay my respects to you. This is my friend, Belasco."
"Speak."
Set's nine heads stared at the two individuals, coldly uttering the first word. Mephisto did not mind the other party's dismissive attitude; the entity was an Elder God from the dawn of creation, so it was fine for him to be a bit arrogant.
"I am certain you would be most delighted to return to that world. To be sure, for the powerful Father of All Snakes, even the reality barriers of the Prime Universe can be crushed through sheer power to force your entry. However, what I wish to say is..."
Mephisto paused for a moment before continuing, "But Gaea's child, the last Elder God and the first New God, Atum the Godslayer, is still slumbering within the sun of that world..."
Set's serpent heads flicked their tongues.
"What do you require?"
Mephisto revealed a smile.
"Your unparalleled power of corruption, as well as your followers' immense financial resources in that universe... Oh, you might not understand what that means, but it doesn't matter. To put it simply, I need some people to help me play the stock market."
