Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: The Choice That Defined a King

He picked option 3 without hesitation.

[3. You'll go with Merlin, but on your own terms. Tell Kay and Sir Ector you want a moderate unit of knights. Your own crew. You'll build something from scratch. Grow power step-by-step. Use this journey not just to earn reputation, but to find real allies who believe in your vision.]

Yeah, that was the one—the third option. The one where his character, Artoria, would rise from the ground up and build her own power from nothing.

And honestly, how the hell could he not pick that? It was the most logical, the most true-to-him choice.

Even though the character was technically Artoria, he could tell the game was shaping its choices based on his way of thinking, his mindset bleeding into hers.

The first choice? That was only something he would've picked back when he was treating the game like a joke—when he didn't give a shit and just wanted to go along for the ride, detached and amused.

[1. Agree with Merlin. He's the Sage of Britain for a reason, right? What's the worst that could happen?]

Yeah, that option came from the version of himself that didn't take anything seriously. Laugh it off, trust Merlin blindly, roll with fate.

But then there was the second option, the bold one. The one where you basically say, "Fuck it. I want power and I'll get it my way."

[2. Disagree. You're the fucking king—not some puppet for propaganda. What you need is power. Real power. Tell Merlin you're going to meet your half-sister, Morgan. Convince her to back you. It's risky, maybe even insane, but you're the player—when the hell did you ever back down from a challenge?]

That one was pure ego—his arrogant side talking, the part of him with a full-blown God Complex that thought he could waltz up to Morgan le Fay, of all people, and manipulate her into playing nice.

Control her. Tame her. Bend her to his will and use her as a counterbalance to Merlin.

But that was delusion talking, and even he knew it deep down.

Morgan wasn't someone you controlled. She was a force of nature, domineering, proud, and way too obsessed with control herself.

The type of woman who'd burn a kingdom to the ground if someone dared to put a collar on her.

No way in hell she'd take orders from her "little sister," even if it was Artoria.

He knew better.

That choice was madness, pure and simple. A gamble with way too many red flags.

So in the end, the rational part of him won out. The part of him that actually gave a shit about long-term survival and strategic gain

Because building something from scratch? That was the smart play. Earning trust, commanding respect, forming bonds that weren't just forged in blood but in belief, that was power no sorcerer or crazy half-sister could ever match.

He didn't want to ride anyone's coattails. He wanted to build his own damn throne.

That's why he chose number 3.

Because that's the path that actually meant something.

[After selecting the third option, you don't rush to answer Merlin. Instead, you stop your training, lower your sword, and wipe the sweat from your brow with the back of your hand. Your eyes shift over to Kay.]

"Kay, I want to speak with Father first," Artoria said quietly, her voice calm but steady.

Kay gave a simple shrug. "Alright, sister. I'll let Father know."

Only Merlin frowned, his expression shifting with unease. His brows furrowed as he stared at Artoria with quiet suspicion.

Why is she suddenly acting like she has a will of her own?

Until now, she'd always been obedient, never questioning him, always doing exactly what he instructed. A tool, not a person.

Yet now, something had changed.

In the end, Merlin kept his mouth shut, but his eyes narrowed sharply, as if he was trying to peer straight into Artoria's soul—trying to uncover the reason behind her newfound independence.

Artoria didn't flinch. Neither did Kay. They simply turned away, leaving Merlin behind in silence as they made their way to Sir Ector's quarters.

"Father," Artoria began, standing tall, "I would like to ask for your permission to take some knights from our estate with me on a journey outside."

Sir Ector looked up at her with a gentle, almost wistful expression.

"They've always been yours, Artoria," he said with quiet pride. "You are their king. How could I possibly stop them from swearing themselves to your cause? You could even take all of them, if that's what you desire."

A choice appeared before you:

[1. Accept your adoptive father's offer and take all of his knights.]

[2. Refuse. Take only those necessary for your journey.]

Khan stared at the screen and immediately recognized the trap.

The first choice? It was a damn red flag if he ever saw one.

It was obvious—if he chose to take all the knights, Sir Ector's estate would be left completely vulnerable. The old man was only human, not some powerhouse warrior.

Maybe stronger than most average folks, but no match for a horde of bandits or robbers who'd see an unguarded noble home as ripe for the taking..

A noble estate without a guard might as well hang a sign that says: "Rob me. No resistance."

Without a second thought, Khan picked the second option.

[You refused your adoptive father's offer and told him you'd only take what you needed before departing.]

[Sir Ector looked at you with quiet relief, pride softening his old features. "King Uther would be proud of you, my king."]

[Then he turned to Kay. "Protect her. Let no harm come to her. No matter the cost."]

[Kay gave a solemn nod, eyes hardening with resolve. "I swear it."]

[And with that, the preparations began.]

[You, Merlin—still clearly pissed but keeping quiet—Kay, and a chosen twelve knights set out. The journey had begun. A grand adventure across Great Britannia awaited.]

[Blood, steel, and destiny were just over the horizon.]

[Pick your route.]

[1. Go to the Lady of the Lake, ask for the sword, and beat the ever-living shit out of Lancelot in the process—forcing him to recognize you as king way earlier than the timeline intended.]

[2. Head to the northern side of Camelot to investigate reports of a vampire that supposedly resembles a fairy, wreaking havoc on nearby villages, draining blood, and leaving corpses behind.]

[3. Rob the rich. Help the poor. Why not use this chance to win the people's hearts by stealing from the corrupt nobles and building your power base off their stolen wealth?]

[4. Visit the church and ask for the blessing of the Holy One for your journey. Who knows? There might be a big surprise waiting for you there.]

Khan furrowed his brows at the options laid out in front of him.

Why did all of them smell like traps?

Option one looked good on the surface. Logical even. But the more he thought about it, the more it felt off.

Why would Lancelot acknowledge Artoria as king if she hadn't even pulled the Sword from the Stone yet?

That moment—that iconic pull—was the entire damn reason people believed in her. It wasn't just about strength or guts; it was about legend. Prophecy.

Yeah, she had strength, no doubt. But strength alone had never been enough. It was Merlin's carefully crafted narrative, his manipulative myth-making, that had swayed the people.

They saw the sword lodged in stone for fifteen years. Watched countless so-called heroes try and fail to yank it free.

When Artoria pulled it out like it was made for her—and honestly, it kinda was—it cemented her image as the chosen one.

She didn't have that sword right now. Just raw strength. And that, by itself, wasn't enough to make someone like Lancelot bend the knee.

If power alone could win his loyalty, then Vortigern would've had him wrapped around his finger ages ago.

So yeah, Option One? Cast aside. It was bullshit.

That left him with the other paths. He eyed them carefully, weighing the pros and cons.

There was only one that really made sense.

He exhaled slowly, decision settling in his gut.

So, he chose...

For this story, I plan to add a game list for future waifus after Artoria. Once we finish exploring Altrouge and Morgan le Fay's routes, I'll probably introduce new worlds like DXD, Overlord, Danmachi, or others with playable female characters.

For the DXD world, my current candidates are Ravel Phenex, Asia Argento, and Rias Gremory, though I'm still deciding which one to choose. I'm also considering Sona Sitri, Serafall, and Grayfia. There are too many good options, so I'll hold a vote here. You can vote for the ones I mentioned or suggest another waifu of your choice. If I like the idea and find it feasible, I'll include her after we finish the Artoria storyline and the Dimensional Game Online arc, where the MC visits the Arthurian timeline before moving on to DXD.
