Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Lie of the First Queen.

Darkness exploded around Vivi.

‎The vision swallowed her whole.

‎For a moment, she wasn't standing beneath the earth.

‎She was somewhere else.

‎Somewhere long ago.

‎The First Kingdom burned.

‎Flames consumed towers of silver and crystal.

‎People ran through the streets.

‎Not from monsters.

‎From each other.

‎Soldiers fought citizens.

‎Neighbors fought neighbors.

‎Children cried.

‎The world was tearing itself apart.

‎Vivi searched the chaos.

‎Then she saw them.

‎Aurelia.

‎And a young man standing beside her.

‎His eyes were kind.

‎His smile warm.

‎Nothing like Viper.

‎Nothing like the monster history remembered.

‎"Who are you?" Vivi whispered.

‎The man couldn't hear her.

‎The vision continued.

‎"We can still save them."

‎The young man grabbed Aurelia's hands.

‎"The Flame belongs to everyone."

‎Aurelia's eyes were red from crying.

‎"They're using it."

‎"They're killing each other for it."

‎"Then take it away."

‎Aurelia looked toward the city.

‎Thousands were dying.

‎Every hour.

‎Every minute.

‎The First Flame was supposed to bring hope.

‎Instead...

‎Kings were using it to conquer.

‎Priests were using it to control.

‎Armies were using it to wage war.

‎The young man stepped closer.

‎"People must choose hope."

‎"They can't be forced into it."

‎For a moment...

‎Aurelia nodded.

‎Then everything changed.

‎A group of rulers entered the chamber.

‎Kings.

‎Queens.

‎High Priests.

‎Generals.

‎The most powerful people in the world.

‎One spoke.

‎"If the Flame remains free, we lose control."

‎Another nodded.

‎"The people have become dangerous."

‎A third whispered.

‎"They need guidance."

‎Vivi's stomach twisted.

‎This wasn't about saving anyone.

‎This was about power.

‎"No," the young man said.

‎His voice shook with anger.

‎"You promised."

‎The rulers ignored him.

‎Aurelia remained silent.

‎The silence hurt more than any answer.

‎The young man stared at her.

‎"Aurelia..."

‎She wouldn't meet his eyes.

‎Then he understood.

‎And so did Vivi.

‎Aurelia had made a choice.

‎Not for hope.

‎Not for freedom.

‎For order.

‎For control.

‎For peace at any cost.

‎The young man stepped backward.

‎"You cannot imprison people's choices."

‎Aurelia finally looked at him.

‎Tears streamed down her face.

‎"I'm trying to save them."

‎"No."

‎His voice broke.

‎"You're trying to save them from themselves."

‎The rulers moved.

‎Magic filled the chamber.

‎Chains of light erupted from the floor.

‎The young man fought.

‎Not to destroy them.

‎To stop them.

‎To stop the prison.

‎To stop the Flame from becoming a weapon of rulers.

‎But he was alone.

‎The chains wrapped around him.

‎His scream echoed across the vision.

‎Not from pain.

‎From betrayal.

‎"Aurelia!"

‎The young man reached toward her.

‎"Please."

‎"Tell them."

‎"Tell them this is wrong."

‎Aurelia closed her eyes.

‎And said nothing.

‎The chains tightened.

‎Darkness flooded into the man.

‎Not because he was evil.

‎Because he was broken.

‎Because the people he trusted had abandoned him.

‎Because hope had failed him.

‎The vision shattered.

‎Vivi stumbled backward.

‎Her breathing was ragged.

‎"No..."

‎Ruin watched her quietly.

‎For the first time...

‎He wasn't smiling.

‎"That was Viper."

‎The words felt impossible.

‎"Before he became Viper."

‎Ruin nodded.

‎"He had another name once."

‎"What was it?"

‎The ancient being looked away.

‎As if even he remembered the man.

‎Not the monster.

‎"The world no longer deserves it."

‎Above the ruins...

‎Haken stared at Aurelia.

‎The First Queen's face was pale.

‎She already knew what Vivi had seen.

‎"You lied."

‎The words came from Haken.

‎Not angry.

‎Disappointed.

‎Aurelia lowered her head.

‎"Yes."

‎"You told history he betrayed you."

‎"I know."

‎"You told the world he chose darkness."

‎"I know."

‎Tears filled Aurelia's eyes.

‎For the first time in centuries...

‎The First Queen looked broken.

‎"He did become Viper."

‎She whispered.

‎"But not that day."

‎The wind howled through the ruins.

‎"He became Viper later."

‎Aurelia's voice cracked.

‎"After I betrayed him."

‎Silence.

‎Far below...

‎Another chain broke.

‎CLANG.

‎Only three remained.

‎Ruin slowly rose from his throne.

‎The darkness around him grew.

‎"Now you understand."

‎His voice echoed through the chamber.

‎"Heroes become villains."

‎"Hope becomes fear."

‎"Love becomes betrayal."

‎The final chains trembled.

‎"And the greatest lie..."

‎His burning eyes fixed on Vivi.

‎"...is that history remembers the truth."

‎Suddenly—

‎A scream echoed across the kingdom.

‎Not one voice.

‎Thousands.

‎The sky split open.

‎A massive crack of black light stretched from horizon to horizon.

‎People everywhere looked up.

‎The prison wasn't merely breaking anymore.

‎It was opening.

‎And deep inside the darkness beyond the crack...

‎Something moved.

‎Something even Ruin did not expect.

‎For the first time...

‎The ancient being looked afraid.
