Chapter 254 All Authors: Su Yuanshan

"As for base stations, forget about the old capitalist countries within the European Community — that's Siemens' and SAGEM's territory. We can only consider Eastern Europe. But ever since the Soviet Union dissolved, many countries, including Russia, have been trying everything to join the European Community… it's really difficult."

"Plus, over there, the oligarchs run rampant. To make any headway in basic communications equipment, we'd have to deal with those bloodsuckers. We're doing legitimate business... and we're still not strong enough yet. Rushing into business with the oligarchs would be very risky."

Wang Rui spoke in detail about the situation over there. It was clear that his half-year abroad had cost him a lot of effort.

"Mhm, it's fine," Su Yuanshan smiled. "At the moment, we don't have a technical advantage in GSM networks, nor enough influence, so taking it slow is no problem. Let's stick to our original plan: focus on the domestic center and gradually radiate outward to surrounding countries. Bit by bit, form an information market link from Southeast Asia to the Middle East, then eventually to Africa and Europe."

Wang Rui laughed and nodded, then said, "It feels like you're trying to create a continental divide."

"Heh, not really trying to create divides," Su Yuanshan chuckled. "Mainly, the entry barriers to developed countries are too high. We can only sip some soup over there. And besides... have you calculated the population along this path? It's sixty percent of the world's total! If we want to aim for the future, we need a long-term vision."

Su Yuanshan laughed again.

"Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west. Even if these regions can't catch up to the Western developed countries, you can't say they'll still be too poor to afford phones decades from now, right? That would just be outright discrimination."

"Haha, that's true," Wang Rui said, standing up. "I'm going to have a meeting with President Chen, and we'll discuss how to break into the Indian market… which, honestly, is a whole different headache. Two of my men stayed there for two weeks and had diarrhea for thirteen days — can you believe it?"

"Hahaha! Yeah, food safety is critical there. Avoid street food, stick to big hotels."

Wang Rui laughed, "They were asking for it, trying to save on travel expenses."

Su Yuanshan coughed, "Whether you hint or not, I didn't hear anything. Your overseas travel allowance is already generous... it's not going up any higher."

"Haha, I wasn't suggesting anything. I'm just saying they brought it on themselves — wanting a car after buying a house..."

Pfft—

...

After seeing Wang Rui off at the door, Su Yuanshan returned to his computer to do a final check on his graphene research paper.

As long as he didn't write like a grade-schooler and clearly described the method for obtaining graphene, the paper was pretty much a guaranteed publication. At most, they might ask for revisions — after all, this was a breakthrough in innovative materials, and the process could easily be replicated in a simple experiment.

However, Su Yuanshan had also added a detailed report on graphene's thermal and electrical conductivity in the first paper, which required serious attention. Once the first paper was published, he could naturally follow it with a second one — focusing on the Hall effect in graphene.

And then, he would move on to filing various graphene-related patents.

After completing his final review, Su Yuanshan filled in his own name for every author slot, indicating that he discovered and completed the work independently.

When he hit "send," a wave of excitement surged through him.

This might very well become the first Nature paper published domestically in recent decades.

Thinking back to his father's first ISSCC publication, Su Yuanshan sighed.

"Hopefully they won't start a god-making campaign around it."

Watching the email client confirm the message had been sent, Su Yuanshan allowed himself a full ten seconds to relax completely.

Ten seconds later, he logged into EM and found several messages from Shi Dazhu and Qiu Bojun.

They seemed to have coordinated and were asking if they should seize the opportunity to meet again at this year's software expo.

"Sister Xiaohui, when's the software expo again?" Su Yuanshan asked out loud. Although Zhou Xiaohui was outside, the office door was usually left ajar.

Zhou Xiaohui appeared immediately at the door, "September 20th, still the same place."

"Mhm, what's our exhibition plan this year?"

"President Xi is still considering. Pandora Lab has been working on neural networks but hasn't produced anything tangible yet. So he's thinking of having the Internet Research Center participate instead. Our tech park side won't join this time."

Su Yuanshan smiled. "President Xi really is... quite the prideful one!"

"Hehe, President Xi is just a perfectionist."

"No wonder — he was a literature major after all," Su Yuanshan teased. "Sister Xiaohui, you're too protective of President Xi."

"Everyone likes President Xi," Zhou Xiaohui winked. "Didn't you say it yourself? He's the idol of all the girls at Yuanxin."

Pfft... "Well then, I'll go chat with your idol for a bit."

...

Walking past the blooming peach trees, Su Yuanshan strolled under the shade toward Pandora Lab. On the second floor, he found Xi Xiaoding just hanging up a call.

"Perfect timing. Are you free tomorrow?" Xi Xiaoding asked, standing up from behind his desk. "If you are, come with me to Shanghai."

"What's up?"

"My senior brother is arriving in Shanghai tomorrow. I'm going to pick him up," Xi Xiaoding paused, then smiled. "In the DSP field, he's truly an expert."

Su Yuanshan was delighted, "Thanks to your senior brother! But... I might actually be busy tomorrow."

Just as he frowned, he quickly remembered, "Wait, no! I'm free! I had a conference call with the CPU team scheduled, but it can be switched to an in-person meeting in Shanghai."

Xi Xiaoding smiled. "Perfect, then just the two of us can go."

Su Yuanshan thought for a moment and shook his head. "Since we're heading over anyway, I'll make a broader trip out of it. I'll take Sister Xiaohui along too. After we pick up your senior brother, you bring him back, and I'll handle the rest."

"Alright, sounds good."

Xi Xiaoding turned to sit on the couch and asked with a grin, "So what did you come here for?"

"Nothing much. I mainly wanted to ask about Yezi's project progress."

Xi Xiaoding blinked, surprised, "You're her boyfriend — why are you asking me?"

Su Yuanshan shrugged helplessly. "She doesn't talk about her project with me. What can I do?"

He could actually understand why Ye Rudai kept her project progress and difficulties to herself — she was driven by a stubborn desire to prove herself.

As Tian Yaoming had said: you had to protect researchers' confidence and pride.

Especially for someone like Ye Rudai — it needed extra protection.

But that didn't mean Su Yuanshan wasn't concerned — far from it. He knew that, no matter what, hyperlink analysis technology was foundational to the future of internet search. He couldn't help but care.

"Mhm... I can only tell you this much: she's doing very well," Xi Xiaoding said with a cheerful smile.

"Her technical direction is right on target."
