The two Friday events occupied my calendar like accusations waiting for a verdict. Professor Adu's dinner could create paid work beyond Nina's circle, while her celebration marked the first article carrying her voice across campus. Choosing either through guilt would damage the reason it mattered while I considered the meaning beneath it.
"Do not answer tonight," Nina said, closing my laptop after asking permission, "contact your professor before assuming the invitation cannot move."
"That sounds suspiciously like Conversation Planning," I replied, though relief had already begun.
