Tuesday's date had existed inside our calendar for nine days before Lindi called at four. A vendor ceiling display had failed inspection inside the conference hall, blocking tomorrow's technology fair from receiving final approval; she needed somebody to rebuild the floor schedule before seven.
Nina's deadline ended at five thirty, while our dinner reservation began at six fifteen. I saw both times, calculated that the event crisis paid four hundred credits, then accepted the shift before contacting her; urgency made the choice feel obvious enough to skip consultation.
{Kofi: Event emergency. I need to cancel dinner tonight. I am sorry.}
Nina read the message immediately without answering; I sent the restaurant link plus suggested Friday as replacement, attempting repair before hearing what the change cost. Her reply arrived while I boarded the bus toward the conference hall.
{Nina: You need to cancel, or you already accepted?}
