Chapter 82 - Not a Fantasy Answer

Nina waited beneath the covered bench while I searched for one practical image that did not begin with desire. The event buildings darkened behind us, leaving only security lights plus workers carrying the last waste bags. My prolonged silence answered an important part of her practical question before any words arrived.

"I imagined affection," I said, keeping my tired eyes on the cup, "shared meals, kissing, sex, plus all three people feeling wanted."

"That is the attractive brochure," Nina replied, folding one leg beneath her without moving closer, "show me the building behind it."

I tried to imagine an ordinary Monday rather than a perfect evening. Nina might have an article deadline while Thea prepared a review, leaving both women needing support during the same limited hours.

"Who decides where you go?" Nina asked, making the conflict specific before I could solve it through endless energy.
