Six months have passed since the Yuki family adopted Kanon. With the paperwork in place, his name has now been officially changed to Yuki Kanon.
He was initially taken aback by the name change, but it isn't the only strange thing happening to him; with his sudden transportation to a different world, it was a minor inconvenience, and he will soon adjust to it.
He had also started attending middle school as a first-year student and joined Baryl's dojo to learn the Gardenant Sword Style of swordsmanship.
When Baryl met Kanon again and learned that another family had adopted him, he felt a sense of disappointment. However, he didn't dwell on his feelings, especially since Kanon was eager to learn the Gardenant Sword Style and appeared to be happier with his new family.
Beryl taught him the fundamentals of the Gardenant Sword Style and instructed him on how to wield the sword effectively.
"Keep your eyes open and pay attention to your opponents' movements—notice how they hold their swords and their footwork. By observing everything, you may find a vulnerable point to exploit. However, don't become too focused on identifying these vulnerabilities; always keep the bigger picture in mind. Otherwise, you might lose sight of your opponent, which could cost you the fight." Using these words as a foundation, Beryl taught him.
Kanon, with the guidance of Baryl and his own true martial art skill, absorbed all of the teachings. Remarkably, he mastered the Gardenant Sword Style in under three months and then began to show signs of wanting to learn other weapons and even hand-to-hand combat.
Beryl noticed how quickly Kanon grasped the basics of swordsmanship and anticipated that this alone would not satisfy someone as monstrous as Kanon. Therefore, on the condition that Kanon would not neglect any of the martial arts he was learning, Beryl decided to enlist a few friends who were masters of their respective weapons.
"..."
At first, Beryl's three friends observed Kanon nodding at Beryl with great regard.
"It's nice to meet you all," Kanon greeted.
"Quite the polite kid," Bang, the older of the three, said.
"And disciplined too," Master Hak, the master of the spear, said, admiring the kid. Just by looking at how the kid held himself, he could tell the kid worked hard.
"Yeah, the kid got spirit," Bang, the master of martial arts, agreed.
"Not just that, the kid might also have a talent for archery; it's truly a pity I wasn't the one to meet you first," said Vons, the master of archery, as he sighed.
The other two masters couldn't help but nod.
"So why have you called us here?" Hak stared at Beryl.
"I am all for drinking with old friends and all. But did you call us here because you just wanted to brag that not only are your daughters prodigies, but that you also found a new genius?" Hak and the other two squinted their eyes.
"Hahaha…" Beryl awkwardly scratches his head.
"That's not it," Beryl sighed, anticipating their reaction.
"I called you three here because…" He paused for a second and looked at Kanon.
"Kanon here had already learned the basics of Gardenant style, and now he wanted to learn other martial disciplines, and so I called all of you here to examine whether Kanon had what it takes to learn other martial arts."
"..."
"..."
"..."
All three of them looked at him with raised brows, then their gaze landed on Kanon.
"Hoo, it seems you have found quite the daring kid here." Von rubbed his chin.
"Or just reckless, trying to bite off more than one can chew," Hak snorted, thinking the kid was being foolish.
"Indeed," Bang agreed.
Beryl, seeing their reaction, sighed, "Trust me, I tried to persuade him, but he will not listen."
"Hmm… tell me, kid, why do you want to learn other martial arts?" Hak inquisitively looked at Kanon. "From what Beryl says, you already seem to have mastered his sword style; as a martial arts master, I can say it's a great style. You do understand that trying to learn multiple martial arts could be detrimental to the Gardenant style."
Hak had seen a few eccentric individuals attempting to master multiple martial arts disciplines. While it might be feasible to mix similar styles in martial arts and weapons, this kid was trying to master completely different styles of weaponry. The differing teaching methods were likely to conflict with each other, creating a chaotic situation. Ultimately, the kid, if he succeeded in his path, would end up being a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. A mediocre weapon master. As a master spear-wielding practitioner, he completely disagrees with this notion, and he is sure others would agree with him.
Hak looked at the other two; they had a frown on their faces. His gaze landed on the kid. Looking closely at the kid, he could see it; the kid worked hard, and from what Beryl said, he was talented as well. It would be a great shame to see a talent like him pursue an unrealistic path like that.
After what Hak said, everyone stared at Kanon, waiting for his response.
"..."
[Why do I want to learn other martial arts? That's a simple question to answer; I have a bunch of legendary weapons stashed in my item box, which I want to use to their fullest potential while fighting monsters in the otherworld. Stick with one weapon? Not a chance. However, I can't share this reason with others.] Kanon had to come up with something else.
Right then, he got an idea: [It's time to bullshit my way through it.]
"Because I can…" Kanon said, staring Hak in the eyes.
"While mastering the basics of the Gardenant style, I experienced a profound sense of fulfilment. However, once I mastered it, I lost that feeling. This led me to think: why limit myself to just swords? I can learn more. I want to explore martial arts, spear techniques, archery, and other forms of weaponry. I want to push myself to the extreme. What will it be like to master it all? I want to know."
The more Kanon spoke, the more excited he became; at some point, his words were coming from his heart, and his sincerity reached the three masters.
"See, I told you the kid was stubborn." Beryl smiled wryly.
Hak, Bang, and Von stared at Kanon for a moment, then Bang spoke up, "Kanon, mind giving us the room for a second?"
"Sure," agreeing, I waited outside.
…
Kanon had some idea what they were discussing. He had said enough to convince them; he just needed to wait.
"Kanon~, why are you standing here?" a familiar voice called out to him.
Maria Gardenant, the elder daughter of Beryl, called out in a bubbly tone.
"Didn't Father call you to meet with his friends?" She tilts her head in confusion.
"They are inside discussing something," I said, pointing at the sliding door.
"I see," she nods.
"Say, Kanon, after you are done here, want to hang out?" she asked.
"I can't. I have some work to do." Kanon shook his head.
"Today is Sunday; what work do you have?" Maria tilts her head in confusion.
"I have to clean my house," I immediately responded.
"Ooh, too bad."
She looked disappointed.
"Why don't you go out with Alisa?" I asked.
Hearing that, Maria sighs. "About that, after you had beaten her in the duel. She has been training nonstop to the point she has started to neglect eating and sleeping."
Kanon raised his brow in confusion. "Huh?"
"Why?" Kanon confusingly asked.
"Alisa takes great pride in her sword skills. However, when you arrived and, after just a few months of training, began to outperform those who had been practising for years, she felt challenged. Alisa wanted to assess your abilities, especially after seeing you receive praise from Father. This led to a duel between the two of you, and ultimately, you defeated her."
"..."
"She took defeat that hard? Is she ok?" Kanon didn't know how to react.
During the duel, he controlled his strength and focused solely on his sword skills. However, not entirely. After that unexpected level-up, even when he tried to hold back, his speed and reflexes still surpassed those of his opponents. Now, he questioned whether he should have restrained himself even further.
Maria, seeing Kanon's awkward expression, says reassuringly, "You don't have to worry about her overtraining; Mother will take care of her. She is quite scary when she wants to be."
"..."
"I see." I nod, remembering the silver-haired lady.
[Yeah, not going to probe there.] Kanon immediately concluded.
Right then, the door slid open as Beryl and others walked out of the room. "Oh, Maria, you are also here."
"It has been quite some time, hasn't it?" Bang said with a fatherly smile.
"Yes, it has been." Maria bowed with respect.
"You have grown," Von nodded in appreciation.
"Enough chit-chat, let's get on with it," Hak cut off the small talk.
Beryl, Von, and Bang looked at Hak and sighed.
"Still as impatient as ever." For a genius spearman, your patience runs out too quickly. Bang chided.
"Shut up, old man."
Hak then looked at Kanon.
"Follow me, kid," Hak said as he guided everyone to the dojo. Along the way, Beryl explained that the three masters were going to spar with Kanon, and during this sparring session, Kanon would use their respective weapons to face the challengers. If Kanon impresses them during the spar, they will teach their skills.

Just as planned, both contestants stood opposite each other, maintaining an appropriate distance.
Hak, with a polearm in hand, lazily stood. "Come at me, kid."
