After that proposal, I somehow diverted the topic for the moment. I then picked up Zastin.
"Let's go home," I said, to which both of them nodded.
On our way home, Lala happily clung to me, her warmth pressing against my arm, while Mikan glared at me as if I had committed some crime. The contrast between their expressions made the silence heavier than words.
Reaching home, I laid Zastin on the sofa. His breathing was steady, but the memory of his blade flashing through the air and cleaving a fisher to the ground still lingered in Mikan's mind like a scar.
I then looked at Mikan. "You have some questions?"
It had been less than two hours since Mikan discovered that aliens were real. If that was true, what else might be real? She had just witnessed her brother fighting an alien. At first, she thought it would be like the high-level martial arts matches she had seen, perhaps enhanced by some technology. With Lala on their side and Kanon's sword skills, she believed he could win. However, she was mistaken—the fight was anything but ordinary.
Zastin moved with such speed and power that Mikan couldn't even track him. The first swing made her gasp, her heart clenching with worry. With that single strike, she understood: Zastin was strong, inhumanly so. She was almost certain Kanon would lose. But what happened next surprised her even further…
Kanon moved with such speed that she could not follow, fighting on almost equal footing with Zastin—the strongest swordsman, as Lala had said. They moved so fast that she could only see blurs and hear the sharp clash of metal ringing through the air.
"Is that really Kanon?" The thought struck her like lightning. The familiar brother she had spent so many years with suddenly felt like a stranger.
The fight continued, and in the end, he was defeated by Zastin…
"What do you want to ask?" I looked her in the eye.
Lala saw the tension between us and remained silent, instead choosing to check on the knocked-out Zastin.
"What are you? How were you moving like that? Are you even the same Kanon?" Mikan's voice strained, trembling with fear and uncertainty, a mix of emotions.
I sighed. "I am 100% human. It's a long story about how I came to move like this. And yes, I am the Kanon you always knew." I patted her head gently. "Don't doubt that, sis."
Mikan looked me in the eye, searching for lies. But when she noticed my sincerity and gentle touch, she nodded reluctantly.
"Explain then." She folded her arms, her stare sharp and unyielding.
Lala also joined in, her curiosity sparking. She wanted to know more about Kanon.
"Do I really have to?"
"Yes, you have to." Mikan's glare cut deeper. "Tell me everything."
"What about my privacy?"
"That doesn't apply in this case." She crossed her arms firmly.
"I, too, want to know more about you." Lala smiled, her tone lighter yet equally insistent.
After a bit of thought, I decided to tell them. The more I thought about it, the more I realised it would be easier to reveal the truth than to keep running from it. But now the question was—how much should I tell them?
There was no way I could reveal that I had been isekai'd here…
"Come with me."
I led them to my house. Over the past few years, I had used certain artefacts to enhance their security, and their faint glow filled the air with an otherworldly hum.
After taking them to my room, I turned to face them.
"Rihito? Whose house is this?" Lala asked, her eyes scanning the place with curiosity.
"It's my house, but let's discuss that later."
I looked at Mikan. "You want to know how I got so strong?"
"Yes," Mikan nodded decisively.
"Transfer." With my call, the air rippled. The door to another world appeared behind me, its frame faintly glowing as if reality itself bent to make way for it.
Mikan's eyes widened, shock freezing her in place, while Lala leaned closer, her curiosity burning bright.
"What is that door?" she asked eagerly, her voice quivering with excitement.
"This thing is the reason for my abnormal strength." I pushed open the door, its light spilling into the room, and walked inside, urging them to follow.
Lala and Mikan exchanged a glance—one filled with wonder, the other with unease—and stepped in after me…
…
Meanwhile, back in the park…
A certain cat girl inspected the area where the ordeal had taken place. Her orange hair shimmered under the moonlight, her ears twitching at every sound.
"It seems some kind of conflict occurred here." She crouched low, her sharp eyes scanning the aftermath. Whoever fought here was definitely not normal—likely an alien.
Her ears stood alert. "It seems we are not the only ones who came to this planet," she murmured, certainty settling in her voice.
Suddenly, the smartphone-like device attached to her belt began to ring. A hologram flickered to life, revealing a purple-haired curvaceous cat girl.
"Eris, how is the mission going?"
"Captain." The orange-haired girl—Eris—saluted. "Yes, I am still in the middle of making contact with Earthlings."
"I see. Have you found a candidate for it?"
Eris's expression turned troubled. "I tried to talk with a few, but most seemed uninterested and looked at me strangely. Others were… too enthusiastic and weirdly insistent. They didn't seem like proper choices either."
"I see." The captain nodded. "So, you haven't found a proper candidate to make contact with?"
Eris was about to nod, but then she remembered the boy she had bumped into.
"Actually, there was that boy…" She explained how he had protected her from falling, shielding her from injury.
Hearing Eris's explanation, the captain nodded. "If that is the case, then that boy would be a good candidate. How does his personality seem?"
"Well, he did look at my tail and ears with a bit of interest… but other than that, he seemed nice and reliable," Eris admitted, her voice soft but certain.
"Then try to make contact with the boy. If he is as you describe, he may be the one."
"Yes, ma'am." Eris's tail flicked with determination, her eyes gleaming with resolve.
…
Back with Kanon…
We were seated at the table in my house in another world. Kanon had just finished explaining everything — a mix of truth and lies — and Mikan was still processing the story.
"Kanon? Can I look into the gate, please? I want to understand how it works. Can I?" Lala asked, her gaze flicking between me and the gate.
I thought for a moment, then nodded. Given her background as a scientist, she might notice something I hadn't.
"Okay."
"Yeaiiii~ I love you~" she sang, pecking me on the cheek before skipping away happily. She began circling the gate, probing it with her instruments, curiosity shining in her eyes.
"So, you're saying that right before we became a family, that gate suddenly appeared before you… and somehow became bound to you?" Mikan asked, her gaze shifting to the gate that Lala was examining.
"Yes."
"And then, sometime after, you investigated it and found yourself here? In a different world? A place where you kill monsters and gain strength?" She repeated my words slowly, still bewildered.
"Yes. If you don't believe me, see for yourself."
I stood and guided her to the garden. Mikan stepped outside, taking in the scenery: the lush garden, the forest beyond, and the shimmering barrier that enclosed the entire place.
"..."
She was speechless. But after learning that aliens were real — and that meant countless other planets existed — another world didn't seem so far-fetched.
She sighed, shaking her head with a wry smile. "I guess it is what it is." Seeing that Kanon was still the same, she finally relaxed.
I walked her through the garden, and she was impressed by the crops. When I explained their effects, she froze again, unable to find words.
"..."
"Hahaha…" I couldn't help but laugh.
"How is it?" I asked with a gloating tone.
"Can these really increase strength?" she asked, still bewildered.
Smiling, I showed her the Complete Recovery Herb and explained its effect. Her expression stiffened for the third time.
"By the way, did I mention that this world has magic as well?" I teased, clearly enjoying myself.
"I am going home," Mikan suddenly said.
"What?"
"I think I've heard enough absurd things for the day." She sighed, exhausted.
I relented, deciding not to overwhelm her further.
"Rihitooo~" Lala sang out as we returned.
"Did you find something?" I asked, noticing the machines and wires she had set up around the gate.
"Yes," she nodded, showing me the schematics and readings.
"This gate is incredible. Just a little probing revealed it holds an unimaginable amount of mana. I can't even begin to measure it. And the material it's made of… It's completely unknown. Nothing in my database matches it. It's practically unbreakable."
"..."
"..."
"Lala, you know what magic is?" I asked, surprised.
"Magic? That's an old term, isn't it? And yes, I know about it. Almost everyone in the universe does… unless—" She paused, realising something. "Oh, right. Earth is one of those planets that still doesn't have the technology to harness mana."
"..."
"..."
Seeing our confused looks, she switched into teacher mode.
"Mana is one of the fundamental forces of the universe. It flows everywhere, throughout everything. High-level civilisations use it alongside the power of stars and other universal forces, if they have the technology to harness it."
"So, people who can use mana must be pretty useful, no?" Mikan asked.
"Yes, but they're extremely rare. Sometimes there are only a handful in an entire galaxy… or none at all. Normally, people need specially made mana gear to harness the energy. You saw Zastin's energy sword, right? That's a specially made weapon. It absorbs mana from the surroundings and channels it into the blade."
[What about me then? I can use mana without such gear…] My thoughts raced. [I should increase my training with my magic.]
I noticed Lala scanning the door with another device.
"Are you scanning the gate?"
"Yes, I scanned it using my instruments," she said.
"Oh," I nodded, watching her work with keen interest.
She pulled out a scalpel-like tool and attempted to scratch the gate for a sample. The blade made contact but left no mark.
"..."
"Did you just try to take a sample?" I asked incredulously.
"Yes, but whatever this door is made of, it can withstand even adamantium," Lala sighed.
"Lala, please don't do that…"
