Chapter 293 - Lance’s Judgment Day

"W-What just happened!?"

"The city—It's under attack!!"

"No way—That's impossible!!"

"…"

Panic exploded across the beach. The onlookers who moments ago were marveling at the Dragonair now stumbled backward in terror, staring at the towering column of black smoke rising from Vermilion City — thick enough to stain the sky.

"My wife—my daughter are still in the city!"

"Call them! Call them first—don't panic!"

But reason collapsed instantly.

People scattered, sprinting without even a farewell to Logan — fear driving them back into the burning city rather than away from danger.

When family is inside the flames, no one waits for safety.

Cherry-red fire reflected on shattered steel.

Screams bled through the streets.

"My leg—someone, help—my leg is crushed!!"

"Please! My baby—my baby is trapped under there!!"

"Get away! The building is collapsing!!"

"Mom… mom!!"

Sirens roared like wounded beasts — ambulances, fire squads, police shouting themselves hoarse to keep order.

But the streets were broken apart — asphalt torn open.

The blast had carved a horrific canyon across Vermilion, splitting the city like a scar through the earth. Steam and white smoke still hissed from its depths.

Buildings near the rift shook violently, foundations cracked, glass raining like hail. Above, storm clouds churned and lightning flashed — as if the sky itself grieved.

"What's happening? Is this another terror assault like the Saffron incident?!"

"I only saw two beams—two beams from the sea!"

"Then it's Pokémon—Pokémon attacked the city!"

"What kind of Pokémon can do this!?"

"How would I know!!"

Chaos swallowed Vermilion whole.

Rescue coordinators yelled over their radios, sweat and soot smeared across their faces.

"Look—out at sea!!"

Heads turned.

Beneath the storm clouds, in the churning black waves, two colossal Pokémon shapes appeared — faint, but unmistakable.

"Those were the ones that fired the attack…"

"And there's a man standing on its head—They're NOT wild!"

"Find Vermilion's Gym Leader! Hurry!!"

"As if he can fight that—Look at them! The city doesn't stand a chance!"

"T-The waves—THE WAVES—!!!"

A roar like the end of days.

A wall of seawater rose — impossibly tall — eclipsing the coastline.

Meanwhile above the storm, Lance stared down coldly.

"Tbh. So even full power only causes this much damage…"

Two Dragonair, exhausted, gasped for breath beneath him.

The earlier beam — enough to rival a Legendary's strike — drained them completely after just one blast.

That was the difference.

A Legendary could annihilate cities repeatedly, never tiring.

A normal Dragon — no matter how strong — had limits.

"I can't waste my life slaughtering humans region by region."

"Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh — too many territories, too much time…"

A twisted grin curled onto his lips.

"I need… something greater. A force beyond ordinary Pokémon."

But Vermilion — Vermilion would be the beginning.

A sacrifice to announce the birth of his new world.

"Hurricane. Rainstorm."

Both Dragonair lifted their heads, releasing echoing Dragon cries. One summoned roaring winds, the other summoned torrential rain.

From the ocean's lungs came a sound like a ghost wailing — and then the sea rose.

Dozens of meters high — a tidal wall of water that could erase a city.

"RUN!! The wave—THE WAVE IS COMING!!"

"Help! Someone—please!!"

Civilians near the shore were swept up instantly, tossed into the ocean like broken dolls.

The city defense forces arrived — a thousand-man emergency unit funded by the Pokémon League.

Not elite trainers — but military-grade operators whose sole duty was protecting cities from disasters.

"All Psychic-types! Light Screen formation — FULL BARRIER! Hold the tide back!!"

Hundreds of Psychic Pokémon projected shimmering walls of energy.

But Logan only watched, expression cold.

"If simple numbers could stop a god's wrath," he murmured,

"what would be the meaning of Trainers who bleed, fight, and grow beside their Pokémon?"

The wave hit.

And the barrier shattered like glass.

Water and storm crashed into Vermilion, devouring buildings and streets. Screams drowned in wind and thunder.

A city of hundreds of thousands collapsed beneath the might of a single trainer and two dragons.

A one-man army.

This was the power of those standing at the apex of the world.

Lance had just demonstrated it.

"Vermilion's Gym Leader Lt. Surge isn't here?! What do you MEAN he's gone sailing again!?"

The league officer overseeing Vermilion went pale with horror.

The strongest defender of the city — absent.

"Champion Logan is in Vermilion!? Someone saw him earlier! Find him — beg him — ANYTHING! Only he can stop that madman!"

Hope — thin as paper — but hope nonetheless.

No one imagined a lunatic would dare attack an entire city alone.

And no one imagined he could succeed.

But this world belonged to Trainers and Pokémon.

A truth the civilians had just learned in blood.
