Giovanni's offensive slowed slightly as he looked toward Logan's side with surprise.
Because of that momentary pause, Lance finally gained a brief moment to breathe. He immediately recalled his scattered dragons, gathering them tightly together. Seeing every one of them covered in wounds, his heart ached, yet he muttered quietly under his breath,
"…Almost there… just a little more… just a little more and it will be complete."
But when his gaze fell upon Logan and Mewtwo, Lance's pupils suddenly shrank.
A painful murmur escaped his lips like a delirious groan.
"…Not again…"
Moments ago, Garchomp had evolved under that same radiant light, becoming Mega Garchomp. That single sky-falling Dragon Rush had nearly left Lance powerless to resist.
Now—
That same light was shining around Mewtwo.
He involuntarily sucked in a sharp breath. From the depths of his heart rose a chilling dread that made his scalp tingle.
And beneath that light—
Mewtwo's body began to change.
Its original height of nearly two meters gradually shrank until it stood only about one and a half meters tall. The appendage extending from the back of its head lengthened endlessly, replacing its tail.
Its body seemed to regress, shifting from the form of an adult to that of a child.
Yet in stark contrast—
An unimaginable psychic power erupted from within it.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAA—!!!"
If the former Mewtwo's psychic power had been like a boundless ocean, then now it resembled the infinite cosmos itself.
It let out a piercing cry toward the sky, releasing the terrifying power suddenly flooding its body.
Hurricanes and shockwaves exploded outward from Mega Mewtwo Y. Psychic waves devoured everything across the island.
Towering mountains collapsed once more. Amid the thunderous roars of landslides, Soffan Island was nearly flattened.
When Logan had first arrived on the island, its tallest peak had exceeded two thousand meters.
After the succession of battles—
That two-kilometer peak had been reduced to less than five hundred meters.
The island itself was sinking.
The sea level was slowly rising.
As the dust cleared, Mewtwo's new form emerged.
The surrounding space twisted under the pressure of its solidified psychic power.
Even more terrifying—
Psychic energy, normally invisible to the naked eye, had taken on a deep violet hue around Mewtwo Y, as if its entire body were engulfed in purple flames.
"…Incredible power. Mewtwo can evolve again?"
Giovanni stared wide-eyed at the miraculous sight.
As the true architect of the Mewtwo Project, no one understood Mewtwo's body better than Giovanni.
From birth, Mewtwo had been the most perfect Pokémon imaginable.
Overwhelming power.
No need for evolution.
Born strongest.
That was the meaning of Mewtwo's existence.
And yet—
Even such perfection had broken its limits.
Earlier, Giovanni had already been puzzled when he saw Logan's Mega Garchomp. He had buried that suspicion deep in his heart.
Now, seeing Mewtwo evolve again—
He understood.
Logan had grasped a power even Giovanni himself did not yet comprehend.
At this moment, both Giovanni and Lance felt an overwhelming threat upon seeing Mewtwo's new form.
Merely looking at it caused their minds to stall.
Their hearts raced violently.
Their bodies felt frozen.
It even felt as if simply gazing upon Mega Mewtwo Y might allow its psychic force to kill them.
With the Mega Evolution of the Pokémon once known as the strongest—
Mewtwo's power had now reached an unimaginable level.
"…Such power deserves study. So this is Mega Evolution."
Giovanni's eyes glimmered.
As a trainer, witnessing a brand-new form of power naturally ignited his desire.
But before researching that power—
He had something far more important to do.
Eliminate the commander of the Kanto Elite Four standing before him.
As if sharing the same thought, Logan and Giovanni glanced at each other.
They nodded silently.
"Mewtwo, show them the power of your new form."
"Go all out."
"Target Lance and his Dragon Legion."
"Psychic!"
At Logan's commanding voice, Mega Mewtwo Y rose into the air.
"Zekrom, don't let it get close! Cross Thunder!"
"ROOOAAARRRR!"
Lance's hoarse shout echoed across the battlefield. Terror filled his voice as he watched Mega Mewtwo Y fly toward him.
Zekrom roared thunderously into the sky, but even its cry carried unease.
If Mega Garchomp had merely given Garchomp the strength to rival Zekrom—
Then Mega Mewtwo's evolution had reached a level that made even Zekrom fearful.
A power surpassing even its destined rival—
Reshiram.
"Fate is the excuse of the weak. Luck is the humility of the strong. That is the meaning of destiny."
Logan raised his head and looked calmly at Mewtwo's back.
His expression was relaxed.
He had once heard an old man sigh beneath withered vines, lamenting, "This is fate."
He had seen successful people smile humbly and say, "I was just lucky."
But those who truly believed such words—
Were fools.
Everything Logan had achieved had a traceable cause.
He had no system granting him sudden power.
No cheat ability making him invincible from the beginning.
Everything he possessed came from relentless persistence.
From intelligence.
And from a small amount of luck.
When others rested and played—
He trained with his Pokémon.
Built bonds with them.
Accumulated strength little by little.
Like grains of sand forming a tower.
Until finally—
He stood at the very summit of this world.
He was a true strongman.
A genuine one.
Not those who obtained power inexplicably.
Deep violet psychic light engulfed all of Cerise Island, burning away every other color.
Lance's hastily constructed "fortress" dissolved like snow under sunlight before Mega Mewtwo Y's overwhelming psychic might.
Even Zekrom's Cross Thunder vanished within that endless sea of psychic light.
The Dragon of Ideals, already exhausted, launched its attack in haste—
But it was no match for Mega Mewtwo Y.
And Logan pressed the attack without mercy.
"Dragonair, Latias, Sylveon—"
"Hyper Beam!"
Three blazing beams spiraled upward, striking Lance and his dragons.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The deafening explosions drowned out the cries of Pokémon.
Through smoke and blinding light, only distorted shadows of Lance's dragons could be seen writhing.
"We can't fall behind either…"
"Nidoking, Nidoqueen—Rock Tomb!"
"Rhyhorn, Rhydon—Rock Slide!"
Giovanni shielded his eyes from the purple glow and grinned viciously as he gave the order.
"…Now end it, Beedrill."
"Fell Stinger!"
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH—!!!"
Amid the collapsing rocks, the psychic tidal wave, and the roaring Hyper Beams—
Only Lance's scream echoed across the battlefield.
