Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Childhood

[LOCATION: MUSUTAFU LOCAL KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND]

"REI-CHAN, BE CAREFUL! PLEASE!" Shouted a small four-year-old boy, who would be the dictionary definition of cute. His round, baby fat cheeks carried asymmetrical diamond-shaped freckles that made his face even more heartbreakingly cute. On his head was a fluff of green hair, with a few unnoticed blue-highlighted tips, that complemented his Emerald coloured eyes. The child's clothes were a basic black shirt and a brown pair of shorts.

That little boy was Izuku Midoriya, and he was currently watching another child, his own age, a girl, climb a pile of stones to reach a high branch on a tree. The said girl heard his shouted concern and turned to look at him with a confident smile.

"Don't worry, Izu-nii! I've got this with con...con-con... confidence," Shouted the girl with her previous confident smile widening, even when it faltered when trying to say (but failing) to say the word confidence correctly. Her appearance was cute, her face round, her red-streaked ponytail brushing her shoulders as she grinned, her red shirt and black shorts matching the spark in her eyes.

This cheeky girl was Reina Midoriya, twin sister to Izuku, and she was currently trying to reach a branch that held an All-Might Figurine toy. How it got there was because of their childhood friend Bakugou Katsuki, who threw it up there because he was jealous of it belonging to the twins instead of him.

Katsuki was already gone from the scene by his mother, who apologized to the twins for his rudeness, and was last seen with a mixture of regret and smugness. This was because his quirk had manifested, and everyone was praising him for it, developing a small but fragile ego within him.

Izuku couldn't help but sigh as his mind began to replay the few minutes that had happened, which led to the toy being stuck in the tree.

[FLASHBACK]

"Whoa, that's so cool, Kaachan!!" excitedly yelled Izuku as he and Reina were looking at their only childhood friend, Katsuki, with stars in their eyes. Their excitement was for their spiky-haired blonde, who had told them more about his quirk, Explosion, in his own child-like manner.

Reina, with equal enthusiasm, nodded her head at super sonic speeds before she spoke her own point, "Yeah! You can easily blow those bad guys with a single blast, like All Might with his punches!" she yelled while doing mock powerful punches in the air like All Might, Japan's No. #1 hero.

The young Katsuki, hearing his friends' praises, held his head up high with a smugness written all over his face. He was clearly enjoying the praises he was receiving from his friends, which formed a small, fragile ego in him.

"Of course I can, I'll be the best Hero EVER!" said the future Pomeranian, as he puffed his chest out. He then eyed the two Midoriyas with playfulness before raising his right hand and doing small firecracker-sized explosions. "And you two can watch me be No. # 1 just like All Might!"

Reina huffed, narrowing her eyes in protest. "Like that'll happen," she said in a teasing tone, knowing full well how that would agitate the blonde to a high degree.

And she was right, as Katsuki's expression began to shift quickly. His eyes became sharper, his small ego was wounded at the tease, causing him to use his only definition of a defence against such feelings: Rage.

"SHUT UP, YOU DON'T GET TO TALK YOU TILL YOU GET A QUIRK!!" shouted the blonde as his palms were letting out small firecrackers of explosions with his face forming a deep scowl.

Reina, enjoying the blonde's annoyed banter, let out a smirk before putting her hands on her hips and leaning forward with her chest puffed out. "What if I get a better one than you, Boomy~?"

Katsuki's rage erupted as his mini explosions got more frequent and a bit bigger. "YOU WANNA BET, REINA!?"

Reina only smirked more as she leaned even more forward, making her face extremely close to Katsukis' red, veiny face. "Obv..obv...of course!" stuttered the child who failed drastically to say 'obviously'.

Izuku, having had enough of this, went in between the two and pushed them away. With a sigh, he looked at his twin sister, with a tired but used-to-it expression, before speaking, voice matching expression, dead tired.

"Reina, can you ever stop doing that? It's getting more annoying," came out a tired little voice from Izuku, his expression showing signs of plotting some harm to his twin, "I'll tell Mama to take away your limited All Might figurine....again."

Reina's eyes widened in fear, with her teasing smile slowly shifting into a nervous and fearful smile. She turned her head towards her twin brother so quickly that the air around her just had a whiplash. "Wait a minute, let's not be hasiy about it."

Izuku shook his head, with tiredness fitting a salary worker, while blankly staring at his tomboy sister. "It's hasty, Rei-chan," came his reply, proving once more how his maturity, despite having his own childish moments with Hero-related topics, "And what's even stopping me from making my threat a rea....reali....real" stuttered the kid as he tried to say reality before giving up and sticking with a word in his vocabulary.

Reina, ignoring the obvious failure to say reality, gave her twin her best puppy eyes act before initiating her secret move, begging.

"Please~ don't do that to me oni-chan~" said the red-headed girl, her voice reaching towards a cutesy high-pitched tone, in hopes of persuading her brother, which failed as Izuku was already used to such tactics.

Izuku continued his blank stare for a few seconds, obviously unimpressed by Reina, before quickly bonking her head.

Reina quickly slumped down and rubbed her head in hopes of stopping a bump from forming. She then looked up at her brother with rivers of tears flowing from her eyes. "WHY DID YOU EVEN DO THAT!"

Izuku let out a small smirk before huffing his chest in mock pride. "I only did what mom would've done," came his smug words as he then opened one eye at Reina. "She said if you get too stupid, you get a bonk on your head."

The comment left a painful arrow in Reina's chest while Katsuki, who only watched the sibling banter, snickered at the only girl he was friends with.

Still crying comically, Reina glared at Izuku while gritting her teeth. "YOU LIAR! MAMA NEVER SAID ANY OF THAT. I WAS WITH YOU!". Shrieked the child, her voice cracking with panic.

The noticeable panic in her voice caused the two boys to laugh at her until they fell on the ground.

Reina blankly stared at the laughing boys, her tears magically disappearing, with a pout. She remained pouting for a while, but that was short-lived, as she slowly began to giggle before joining in on the laughter.

The laughter from the three friends was noticed by two other boys, who were now staring at them with confusion. Wanting to know what was funny, the two boys went to the laughing trio, curiosity evident in their expression.

When the two new boys walked towards their target of interest, the trio noticed them and instantly stopped laughing, just to observe the newcomers.

The first boy had a simple appearance, with a round face, which made his round, black eyes more apparent, neck-length brown hair with black accents trailing down the edges. His clothing consisted of a long-sleeved shirt that read 'Rule out with Rock!' as a picture of a guitar, surrounded by colourful musical notes in the centre, and a pair of black long shorts.

The second boy was stout in figure. His facial appearance was chubbier than the others, with his eyes appearing to be closed. His grey hair was shaved, with no evident sign of growing back. His attire was a basic grey shirt with holes at the back, to accommodate his red wings and a pair of red shorts that fitted his black sneakers.

Once the two boys had reached the childhood friends, their curiosity quickly turned into shyness as they could feel the observant eyes of the three kids they were interested in. The silence that followed didn't help as the awkwardness of the situation was sky-high now.

Katsuki, feeling like it was his job to judge new faces as the leader (or so he believes), began to size up the two boys with squinted eyes, much to their discomfort.

After another few seconds of staring, Katsuki finally took his gaze towards the faces of the newcomers with his next words already in mind, "Who the heck are you extras?"

His comment left Reina facepalming at his rudeness and Izuku blankly staring at him, questioning whether Katsuki was stupid or not.

Before the spiky blonde could ask his question twice, he received a slap on the head from Izuku, who was not going to tolerate his friend's rudeness a second time.

Reeling from the hit, Katsuki grabbed his head and whimpered a bit before looking at Izuku with comical tear drops at the edge of his eyes. "WHY! I THOUGHT WE SAID THAT WAS ONLY FOR AUNTIE TO DO!?"

The green boy just shook his head and side-eyed Katsuki with a 'I'm disappointed' expression. "I did that because you scared them, Kaachan," spoke the boy in a matter-of-fact tone, which just made Katsuki slump even more.

Ignoring Katsuki, who had Reina laughing at him, Izuku went to the new kids and offered a handshake to them while smiling. "Sorry for Kaachan, he's not very good with his words to others besides me and my sister."

The first boy shyly nodded at the explanation before taking the offered hand slowly. "I-it's n-no p-problem...He's just scary," said the boy with a slight whimper at the end, clearly afraid of Katsuki's temper.

"Yeah, my mom says he'll grow out of it....She hopes that is," said Izuku, remembering how his mother would worry for Katsuki completely inheriting his mother's personality.

Shaking his head to get the memory out of his head, Izuku looked at the brown haired boy with a smile once more. "By the way, what's your name? I'm Izuku, Midoriya Izuku"

The boy, feeling even more comfortable with Izuku, lets out a small smile, "I'm Kouya, Shirone Kouya."

The fat boy, feeling a bit left out, sprang forward with a smile on his face as well, while enthusiastically childishly raising his hand, "And I'm Kouki! Tsubasa Kouki!"

Izuku nodded at the names before turning their attention to his first friend and sibling, hoping. "Those two over there are Kaachan and Reina."

Reina does a small wave with a bright smile on her face. "Hi! I'm Reina, Izu's twin sister!"

Katsuki, however, squinted his eyes at his introduction. "IT'S NOT KACCHAN!" Before he could continue, he got a stare from Izuku, who pointed at the two kids in front of him. Feeling the weight of the stare, Katsuki's head slumped before he grumbled his name, "Katsuki, Bakugou Katsuki."

Nodding at the ever-so-short-tempered Katsuki, Izuku turned to the new kids with a warm and welcoming smile on his face. "It's ok to join us if you wanna."

Kouya and Kouki both looked at each other before they simultaneously whipped their heads at Izuku, both smiling widely at the offer made.

"Yeah!"

[FLASHBACK OVER]

After a few minutes of playing with Kouki and Kouya, Katsuki began to show off his quirk to the two new friends, which gained him a lot of praise. That praise turned into fuel for his ever-growing pride, which made Izuku a bit worried.

And, unfortunately, the green-haired boy's worries were confirmed when Reina and Katsuki were arguing about an All Might figurine that belonged to the twins, with Bakugou throwing a temper about why he couldn't have it.

Reina didn't care. She continued to irritate Katsuki until he snapped and threw the figurine on top of the tree.

While Izuku was focused on the memory, Reina was still trying to reach the toy, barely reaching it. Trying with all her might, she outstretched her hand and stood on her tiptoe, forgetting how unstable her makeshift stool was, all to reach her prized figurine.

"Almost got it..." and a grunt afterwards was all she could let out from her mouth.

Izuku's ears picked up the strain in Reina's voice, which made him snap out of his thoughts and focus on his sister. He watched the pile of stones that was Reina's footstool with worry, which was valid, as it was now beginning to wobble.

"Um...Rei-chan?" meekly called out Izuku. His voice was full of worry.

Reina, not hearing the worry in her brother's voice, slightly turned her head to show that her attention was given while straining out a single word. "Y-yeah?"

The small movements made by Reina increased the wobbling, which made Izuku panic as the stone pile was about to crash into the ground. "GET OFF, REI-CHAN!"

"Huh?" was all Reina could utter as the stone pile completely collapsed, causing the girl to be airborne. "...Uh-oh."

Before gravity could take its natural order on the child, a light greenish glow surrounded her and kept her afloat mid-air.

The twins were gobsmacked at the spectacle and both just stared at each other, eyes widened. It didn't take long before they realised that it was a quirk in action that saved the fiery-haired girl from a painful fall, and they both knew whose quirk it belonged to.

"Didn't I tell you to be careful?" came a motherly voice behind Izuku, causing him and his twin to look at the newcomer, who they recognised all too well.

"Mama/Mom!" shouted the two twins as they were now both looking at their mother, Inko Midoriya, who had her right hand outstretched to Reina with the same glow surrounding it.

Inko's appearance was that of a tall woman, slender in build, with her most noticeable trait being her long green hair, which resembled that of her son. Her clothing was a casual collar neck and a pair of black tight jeans with black shoes to match.

With careful precision, she slowly lowered Reina with her Telekinesis Quirk, safely onto the ground. Once her daughter was safely touching the sandy ground of the playground, Inko cancelled her Quirk on her before she activated it once more, focusing on the figurine stuck in the tree.

"You two should have waited for me to come, not try out stunts like that," spoke the green mother, as her voice carried a stern motherly tone.

The twins stared at the ground, tracing circles with their feet to avoid their mother's gaze.

Inko stared at the two twins with an exasperated expression, while her focus on the figurine was still absolute. She then made a quick hand movement with her glowing hand, which sent the figurine flying straight into her hand.

"I really don't know what I expected from both of you," sighed the green-haired mother. Her head slowly shook at this, already used to seeing her children get into more trouble than they could bargain for. "I can already see your father's traits in you, especially you, Reina."

Reina let out a small giggle at the mention of their father, while Izuku just looked at their mother with guilt in his eyes.

Before the boy could apologize, Inko lowered herself to the level of the twins, a motherly smile adorning her face. She then put her hand on Izuku before rustling his fluffy hair gently.

"No need to apologize, dear. I'm supposed to be used to this type of trouble as a mother," came her soft voice, which made Izuku lose all of his guilt and relax.

Reina, not wanting to be ignored, hugged her mother by the side. Her face turned to gaze at Inko with wide eyes, begging for the same attention.

And given it was, as Inko smiled at her and patted Reina's head with her other hand, with the figurine safely placed in the child's hand. This caused Reina to giggle and shake her head in tandem with the pats she was receiving.

After a while of indulging in cuteness, Inko decided to return home with the twins, seeing as there was nothing to grab their attention now.

[LOCATION- MUSUTAFU SHOPPING DISTRICT]

It was still noon by the time the Midoriyas were moving, with the yellow sun shining an orange glow towards the entire shopping district.

Amidst the crowd of strangers, families, and friends were the two twins running around with smiles plastered on their faces. They were exercising caution with their playfulness and perfectly avoiding passer-by, with their mother tailing behind them.

"Rei-chan, Rei-chan! Look over there!" called out an excited Izuku as he was pointing at a toy store window, his own hand trembling uncontrollably.

Reina followed her twin's hand, and her eyes widened at what was standing on top of a shelf within the store of childhood dreams: A new, Limited edition All Might figurine in pristine condition.

The two siblings gazed at each other briefly before they broke out into a sprint to drag their mother, hoping to convince her to buy the toy for their upcoming birthday.

After a lot of dragging and pushing away a multitude of strangers, the twins successfully brought their mother to the storefront and excitedly pointed at the figurine. Along with their pointing came fast-paced babbling, which could only be described as their attempt to convince her to purchase it for them.

Inko only stared at the babbling children with her mouth curling upwards. She stared at the desired toy her children wanted and pretended to be pondering whether she would buy it or not. In truth, she had already seen the toy and was already making plans to surprise her adorable babies with it on their special day, after they figure out their quirks, that is.

As Inko was keeping up her act, the twins both noticed something in the mirror and fell silent. They both were only staring at something which seemed to be resonating with them, not that they realised it.

Noticing the silence, Inko turned her gaze towards the twins with an eyebrow raised. When she saw that they were staring at the window of the store, a question mark floated above her head before she turned towards what had caught their attention.

What she saw was absolutely shocking to her eyes, as what her children were gazing on was nothing but themselves, their reflections in the mirror. Their reflections were fine, but it was what stood behind them in them.

Behind each of the twins were silhouettes that resembled two teenagers who held a mystical presence.

Inko looked to and fro the reflections and her actual children, noting how the silhouettes were only present within the reflections and not reality itself.

Izuku's silhouette resembled a blue boy with an angular face, vibrant white eyes, and a peek-a-boo hairstyle with his bangs reaching his nose. His attire almost resembled a normal High School Uniform, with the only unusual pieces being a shoulder plate on his right arm and a pair of wired headphones.

Meanwhile, Reina's silhouette resembled a normal teenage girl with a round face, ponytailed hair that brushed her shoulders, similar to Reina. Her attire also resembled a normal High School Girl's uniform, with the same additions as the boy silhouette.

The two silhouettes almost seemed to have similar familiarities to each other, besides the clothing, which almost made Inko think they were the same person.

The only difference the mother could discern from them was their posture, as the boy's was slouched, relaxed, but attentive. The girl's posture was straight, upbeat, and focused.

As Inko stared at them, mouth agape, she couldn't process the fact that two possible ghosts were standing behind her children. But even if that fact was apparent, it almost felt like those two figures were where they belonged, as if they were fitted perfectly into a puzzle, and her children were that puzzle.

The colourful silhouettes looked at each other, their eyes shifting into excitement, before they both put their hands on their respective kid. They both glowed and then disappeared.

The whole event had ended with Inko having to deal with two excited twins, who thought what had happened was their quirks showing the first signs of manifestation. The thought was what the mother considered to be the truth, not wanting to believe in the existence, and went home with the twins still talking about the silhouettes.

What none of them saw was a pair of glowing balls of light that had the same colouring as the silhouettes, trailing behind the family.
