Beneath the City of Light, space had never healed correctly.
The distortion was faint enough that Leon might have missed it years ago. Now he could follow the places where distance bent by fractions, where two points sat closer together than the stone between them allowed.
The trail ran beneath layers of streets, churches, vaults, and ruins built over one another by generations who had never known what lay below.
Luna cleared the oldest storeroom above the disturbance. Leon opened a controlled path through the rock beneath it, moving stone aside rather than destroying it. Seraphine and Ira guarded the passage. Vyra watched for changes in the surrounding mana, while Loriel kept one hand against the wall and listened to the life above them recede as they descended.
The Mark of the Uncounted stirred before they reached the bottom.
