Chapter 696: Before She Begins
The room was dim and warm, the lamp already turned low as if she had prepared for this earlier. Seraphine stopped beside the bed and turned to face him, and for a moment neither of them moved. The quiet had a different texture now — not the peace of two people reading in the same room, but the held-breath anticipation of something about to begin.
She reached for the ties of her outer robe first. Her fingers moved slowly, deliberately, her eyes on his face the whole time. The fabric parted and slid from her shoulders, pooling at her feet. Under it she wore a thin inner shift, so fine it did almost nothing to hide the shape of her.
"Tonight isn't supposed to be rushed," she said.
Leon stepped closer and caught the hem of the shift between his fingers. "I wasn't planning to rush anything."
"Good." Her hands came up to help him lift it over her head. "Because I want to remember this tomorrow."
